Just to throw another thing into the mix - apparently my grandfather was sometimes called Bert. I have no idea why but have wondered if one of his names was Albert or Robert although neither is on his marriage or death certificate. However 2 of his sons were named Albert and Bert (yes really). I have tried using these names when looking for his birth but with no success.

28 Gordon Street is where my grandparents lived so its definitely him on the New York Passenger (crew) list. He must also have been the stowaway in 1912! The other stowaway's address was close so they must have been mates. Edward married my grandmother the following year - I do hope he wasn't running away from her!!

It's clearer if you look at the original on Ancestry.

Re stowaway Edward's age in 1912, they probably asked him when he was born, he said 1892, and they assumed age 20.

Ann, I can't say for definite that it's him.

But, IF it is him stowing away then it would have been less than a month to his 20th birthday .........

lancashireAnn

lancashireAnn Report 3 Mar 2013 16:41

just a minor point

if his birth date was 14 July 1892 he would only have been 19 as the Boston stowaway (he seems to have been consistent with his age elsewhere
