Malcolm Report 2 Feb 2013 19:16

Just back from three more days at the S.P. centre at Register House (National Records of Scotland), Edinburgh. It's a joy to research there as the systems are so fast and the help is unstinting. I get the most from my visits by working with the Online "Scotlands People" website at home. A single credit (20p) can be used to search for up to 30 results on a printed page, for example marriages of a certain name in a certain county. That page can then be taken to the SP centre and each marriage certificate viewed for more in-depth info such as parents, ages of the parties, witnesses...

I also make up a notebook with questions I need to seek answers to. In three days I estimate i've come up with over 200 answers to various existing and "new" family members. I'm now back home and adding the data to the tree at my leisure and already making notes for the next visit.

BTW they've just released the new 1905 Valuation records which along with the 1915 series can be very useful and interesting. :-)
