It is for Wareham Parish Records .... the OPC ( online parish clerk )there is Jenny Way ---- you will see her name in blue - click on it and a email page will open ..

I know the transcribed baptism online only go to 1841 ---- but the OPC have access to the Parish Records .....

Just ask her if she will please look up the baptism for Henry Best ... and his father mother etc .............

Lynn - no need to apologise! There are a small handful of members who have nothing better to do than report posts for no reason. Don't worry about them, they are more to be pitied.

Sorry didn't mean to cause problems but just wanted some advice. I have posted all details I know on the "Finding Ancestors" page. All I wanted was to know where to look next.

Who on earth felt it necessary to report the post? Lynn hasn't done anything wrong at all.

To the post reporter - at least have the common courtesy to state that you've reported a post and why. Numpty.

(edit - apologies, this was drafted but not sent about an hour ago, and I see that the conversation has since moved on)

If you are tracing back through the generations and have hit an obstacle, then you need to re-evaluate the information that you have collected so far, and ask:

- is each piece of information consistent with the other data? (for instance, has it - eg place of birth, date of birth, occupation, name/age of spouse etc - changed between census years, between marriage and death, etc)
- if not, was it due to some mistake in spelling, listening or false memory (for instance, my ggg-grandfather, born approx 1800, reported the wrong place of birth on the 1851 and 1861 census, but the correct parish on the 1871 census - perhaps because he sought parish relief as an old man, and the baptism registers of the nearby parishes were searched to prove his place of birth?)
- if not, was it because, in common with many young men, he had sown some wild oats and decided to make a fresh start under a new name?
- if not, you could start to accumulate furthe information about the individuals who are clearly connected to him, and widen this out to cousins, neighbours, work colleagues etc, forwards and backwards in time to try to understand why the birth registration and baptism either cannot be found or never occurred.

Henry Best, c 1858, Wareham Dorset. Father's name is John Best. I have correct info on him from 1891census, the previous 1881 I believe may be him.

Lynn if you have a thread already just post on it that you still haven't found what you are looking for, no one minds that, and someone might just have another idea that has been missed. ( you can edit the title as well to say 'Still looking'!)

Or if all the threads have been deleted post another one giving all the details you DO have on the person ( including anything that was already followed up but turned out to be not the right one) ) , and ask if anyone can give any further help.

EDIT as Christina says you can post it here, if there is no other thread already on any board :-D

Please will you tell us just his name, age and place of birth from the 1881 census you have.

Maybe that will help point us to something. Also, we're itching to try to help find him. :-)

Just seen your post above. If you post it underneath this, I don't see how anyone can reasonably complain.

So what do you suggest I do. Think people on here may get annoyed if I re post again about the same people. I thought it was frowned upon? I don't want to upset anybody.

Yes but for who lol... mistranscriptions can be missed, even by experts, I know that because members have found people in records when I have missed them more than once :-)

I have tried all census records, BMD, parish records. I have tried on IG, Ancestry, ancestry aid, curious fox, obviously here, Free BMD, family trees, local area websites. all the free searches. Plus browsing what ever gets thrown up during a search, I really am just stumped

Hard to say unless we know which records have been looked at already and when... as new records may have come online since you last looked?

Thanks for replies, I have already put him on previously and his father on "find Ancestors" but no one has been able to find out anything more than I already know.
I just wondered if there was another way I could find out. I have tried other sites as well all with the same results.
