you asked at the very beginning, how could someone be on the census on one site and not on another site.

The answer is really very simple.

The census information on the different sites has been transcribed by different transcribers ........ each site has done their own. And each transcriber could have seen something very different from the others

GR uses the information from FMP

Ancestry did its own transcribing

........... and the 1901 and 1911 censuses were both transcribed by actions of the British government. then released to the public. The censuses were later released to the sites, who did their own transcribing ..... so you will find 3 possible variations.

When searching for names, always remember the wild cards .......... ? can be substituted for 1 letter, and * can be substituted for more than 1

so ................ if Bradford doesn't appear, try Br*dford

or even try *radford, just in case the B has been mis-read.

there are various other little tricks as well for finding people who are apparently not on the census.
