Hi Tess,
Hope you are feeling much better today. Sorry I didn't get back to you last night. The internet crashing on me yesterday morning was a big wake up call that for all my notebooks, I need to get tidied up with the info and think about a family tree programme. Trouble is that computer stuff itself doesn't interest me. I've actually bought a roll of wallpaper lining paper because I thought I'd create a proper paper tree. I wish I could meet you on Wednesday but I'm doing a picnic for Al's birthday and I hope the weather is better by then.
I understand what you are saying. Hope that you find some.

Pleased that you all had a good time at the library. Forgot to say that you could have tried to use one of the computers at the library for an hour (it's free!). Then you might have been able to get the info you wanted.
I have now made a list of known and possibe deaths for people in my family.
Might try to pop in there next wednesday to check out the "Wills Books".
I wouldn't be surprised if none of mine made a Will. However, it may help to cut my list of possibles down, if others of the same name have done so. (I hope that you can understand what I am trying to say.)
hope that you have all dried out now,
Tess

I'm thrilled that you found him Zena. I tell you, sitting at that fiche reader made me question how I managed to do it for hours at a time. I am so glad there is now so much on the internet. Of course my eyes were twenty-plus years younger then :-)
As Jan says 'roll on the next time'

Hi Zena,
I was so tired last night but stayed up to watch Under Siege and put some of the info I got yesterday into context.
After we'd parted, I did go back into the library for another hour. I was able to get a reader and thought I'd have the microfiche IGI for Eadie in Warwickshire. Wouldn't you know? Missing.
So I went off to buy some little extras for Alison's birthday today. I got some for Andrew's birthday next week too. It was very wet and lots of people were running for cover or hiding under umbrellas but I couldn't be bothered. So I was quite damp but I didn't care.
It was great to meet you all. Next time, we'll book film readers and go through Aston Juxta. When I got home, the internet was back up so I was able to look at all the info I couldn't take with me yesterday.
:-|
I slept like a log last night. First time in ages I haven't dreamed about painting walls, etc :-D
Hi to Jackie. Enjoy the rest of your week off.

That's her, Jan, but there is more than one Ann Bates born in 1866/7/8 in the same area and I am trying to find out which one she is. I have a thread about her somewhere on 'Find Ancestors' so won't pursue the matter here. I'll order the marriage cert and get her dad's name and occupation. Many thanks Beverley

Thank you very much for your effort, I really appreciate it. I did say a couple of posts up that I'd found it was St. Pauls, but no problem, it's my own fault for being too vague!
Also thanks for the Aaron Bates marriage; I will check it out on the census. Since I haven't been able to positively identify Ann Bates in any shape or form before 1885, it's not impossible that there may be a link.
Again thanks for your time. Beverley

Right, fresh back from the coven meeting in Brum.
Beverley - no luck with St. Martins I'm afraid, also checked St. Philips for the latter half of 1885 but no sign. You might have to get the marriage cert.
Probably unrelated, but as I saw it I might as well put this, just in case:
Marriage 12/10/1885 at St. Martins. Aaron Bates bachelor, 21, occ. Tube Drawer. Father John Iron Plate worker. Fanny Elizabeth Wareham spinster 23. father James occ. painter. Address for both Moor St.
Marion - not sure this is going to help you, but:
Marriage 19/10/1857 St Peter Dale End
William Johnson bachelor of full age occ. porter. Father William John occ. ?plater? Elizabeth Crowder spinster of full age. Father John occ. ??Fitter?? Witnesses Samuel Walker, Mary Ann Ravenhall.

Thanks for that, Jill. I' m sorry to be a pain, I looked in my old notes and I have written down that they were married at St. Pauls. Don't worry Jan, I can always buy the certificate if it's getting too complicated. It's very kind of you to offer. Beverley

I got the ref and input it. Reply
'Sorry, we cannot locate the church for this marriage. The entry is located between entries for Birmingham St Peter and Birmingham St Philip, both in RD Birmingham'.
Given that St Peter and St Paul was Aston, maybe this entry is for St Peter's Dale End.
I just can't remember what other churches went by this name in Brum.
JAN. WAVING AT YOU.
Add this to the list for looking up if we get to St Peter or St Phillip.
Getting quite excited now about Wednesday. Am working hard at the other house so I don't feel guilty about a day just for me.

I am sure that it was on here last year or earlier that someone posted a website that allowed you to work out the church based on the Ref No. in FreeBMD.
I've posted a request in hope of someone still having it. Then maybe we can look up Beverley's couple.

With luck I'll be with Jan on Wed. My plan is to do the pages for St.Peter & St Paul Aston aka Aston Juxta.
I'll look there for anyone so long as I can have an approximate date for the marriage or birth.
