Just how accurate are Ancestry records ? I found this record for an ancestor of mine which reads as follows-

William Goring Brn abt 1835 Preston Lancs

Married P R ( Puerto Rico) 1858

Death Preston 1922

His wifes maiden name is woods and she had a brother called Jabez which I believe is Spanish Hebrew, so my dilema is this, does this point to a spanish connection or should the "P R " stand for Preston and not Puerto Rico ( but why choose P Rico ) very strange .

I think the system has put Puerto Rico rather than the owner of the tree

I think the Ancestry system has taken P R and decided it stood for Puerto Rico. Their system sometimes does things like that

Also as this entry is on a tree this can not be taken as Ancestry being accurate

Parish Register seems more likely than Puerto Rico

and the tree owner has decided Puerto Rico!!!

Glitter baby, I cant check on Puerto Ricos records because I have only subscribed to the Premium option and that does not give me access to overseas records. Will be checking to see Brothers and sisters records see if they turn up with anything interesting.

I really don't think there is any Puerto Rico connection at all, I've had a look at the tree in question and it does seem one of the better researched and documented.

The tree owner has put this as the narrative:
"St John Church Preston Lancashire L P R - 229 / 17 / 368
Index to Marriage Reg Apr 1858 Preston Lancashire 8e / 557"

There is no reference to Puerto Rico on the tree itself, it seems to be shown in the search results.

Is it possible that it should read "married Preston " abbreviated to PR.

Thats what I thought Wisechild, that PR probably stood for preston. Ho well never mind and just when I thought the P Rico thing meant something less boring had turned up !! Elizabeths maiden name was Sumner and thank you all again for your help.
