I have a gift.

It's quite incredible.

I'm not sure that I should share though.

Most of you wouldn't believe me.

Well, you might.

Can't WhiffingSiggs and Eldrick start doing what this Board is for? ie be 'chatty' or talk about genealogy?

All their heavy sarcasm and judgemental criticism is making me tired.

I don't find any of their comments helpful or enlightening. Sorry. There must be something they are good at in the family history field!

You can't blame Eldrick and WiffingSiggs. It wasn't they who put the thread on the wrong board., Why should you expect one view to be censored when none of the other posts is about genealogy?

Eldrick Report 21 Mar 2012 23:25

lol

You always get someone who cant deal with the points so they attack the person in the mistaken impression that by calling someone names that negates their comments.

This is a particular phenomenon where woo is concerned :-)

Most people don't believe in this sort of thing.

I know what I have experienced.

I don't expect people to believe in it, I'm usually surprised when someone does!

I'm not going to get a tent and set myself up at the local hippy market.

I am NOT a fortune teller. I don't claim to be a psychic. I don't know why I get "messages".

Ever wonder why people who say they can "tell the future" never win the lottery?
:-D

Eldrick

Eldrick Report 22 Mar 2012 09:25

Well, yes, indeed.

But I also wonder why people who claim this gift, curse or phenomenon are always unwilling to put it to scrutiny. Perhaps because there is always an explanation that is not supernatural?

Occams razor....?

Janet Report 22 Mar 2012 11:05

Why should anyone who has ' the gift' or the'curse' put it to the test just to pacify the rest of the world? I'm sure in the days before media coverage that many of the scientific world shattering theories came to be very quietly and then took many a year to become the accepted norm.

When the penny and the apple dropped for Newton I am sure the Joe Bloggs of the time couldn't give a toss. That is why many psychics either don't practice or remain with like minded people. Ghost stories are shared with people who believe. Thank goodness I haven't seen any but I think it is plausible that others have, without fear of my feeling less intelligent for accepting their story. -jl

I have seen and heard quite a few things but I never really take any notice of them as I'm not bothered by them..
I believe there must be something after death, something I guess we will all find out eventually when our time comes...

Where have I got personal?

Should have gone to specsavers!

(Work out the irony!)

Janet

Janet Report 23 Mar 2012 10:06

When used by sceptics, woo-woo or a woo is a derogatory and dismissive term used to refer to beliefs one considers nonsense or to a person who holds such beliefs.-jl

I thought it was the noise made by ghosts when they are trying to scare you.

JustDinosaurJill

JustDinosaurJill Report 23 Mar 2012 12:04

Ghosts aren't scary. People are scared by them. They are mostly only deceased people who were probably very decent in their earthly lives.

And Woo is the sound kids under sheets make to scare each other. Wonder what ghosts wore before sheets were invented.

BOO

Kense

Kense Report 23 Mar 2012 13:23

Well that Amityville ghost, the one the book was based on, was very scary.

Eldrick

Eldrick Report 23 Mar 2012 14:03

And how was that personal to anyone? Woo is indeed a term used by sceptics to laugh at the nonsense of ghosts and ghoulies and things that frighten people. I would, however, agree that ghosts arent scary. Why? Because theres no such thing - they dont exist other than in peoples imagination.

But - I am willing to put my money where my mouth is. Show me some convincing evidence of a ghost that is not explainable by any other means, and I will not only show my bare bum on the internet, I will donate my pension to charity. Anecdotes dont count, btw. You wouldnt believe me if I said I'd seen a unicorn in my garden eating a rainbow and thats pretty much equivalent to you telling me that you've seen a ghost.

So - to reiterate. Woo is something that describes the subject of paranormal nonsense. It is not used to describe a person - i.e. he or she is a woo. So I wasn't being personal. You, however, take the traditional woo stance of being personal and incapable of dealing with the issue.

So there - hope thats cleared that up!

It's a shame that ghosts don't seem to be helping us with our trees.

Has anyone had help from a ghost in sorting out tree problems?

LadyScozz

LadyScozz Report 4 Apr 2012 12:17

I certainly didn't "imagine" what I saw.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion.

I'm not right and you're not wrong, you're not right and I'm not wrong. :-)
