Literally pulling my hair out. Been trying to Garrity side of tree since I started on Genes. Managed to trace back to Great Great Grandad John Garrity born circa 1830 in Ireland believe Derry? married Ellen born in Ireland circa 1840 don't know maiden name - had 7 children including my Great Grandad Thomas born c1870 in Warrington, Cheshire married Margaret Redhead, they had 5 children including my grandad James Richard born in Lancaster, Lancs. Can't seem to trace any further back have joined Ancestry on Free Trail and it keeps coming up with is blinking Garrity's in America ? have I joined the wrong Ancestry? Don't know what I am doing and think I need help big time. Aghhhhhhhhh its done it again and given me American Garrity's What am I doing wrong??????????? :-S |

Hi Suzanne. Yes this is my family in the 1881 census. I think they were actually married in Ireland. Thanks Suzanne. I have tried searching different sites, but think I might be doing something wrong as I keep hitting brick walls. |

Hi I have tried searching up to 1891, but after that can't seem to find them, also noticed that their daughter Mary born 1859 does not appear on 1881 or 1891 census for some reason, but all the boys do, why would this happen? Its also quite difficult searching your Irish roots it is not as staight forward as searching for ancestors born in England. :-S |

Thank you for info, I know that John father was called Patrick and so was Ellens and know both sides of the family are from Ireland, but other than that I can't seem to find any other info. Cheers Vanessa |

Hi Dizzi. Sorry I did not come back on last night, went to bed early. I know Thomas had five brothers and one sister, I am really interested in what happened to the sister Mary born c1859 as she does not appear on census after 1881. Thomas had 5 children - Sarah (aunt Sally) she married someone called William Regan. Alice she married Albert Jones. Peter he died in 1st WW. William Matthew he was born in America and I believe he married a Evelyn Studholme and last but not least my Grandda James Richard. I think I may try to trace spouses and of members of their family eventually, its just a bit frustrating that I can't seem to trace any further back on the Irish side. Never mind I will just have to perservere. Cheers Vanessa |

Hi I have a question for Suzanne. You have family that you research in Ireland. How easy hard have you found it is to trace family there. Also if you don't think it is too cheeky asking what search engines do you have you used and how easy are they to use. Thanks Vanessa x :-) |

Hi All, slightly confused here. On my grandfathers birth certificate Garrity is spelt Garrity, yet on here it is spelt lots of different ways ie Garrety, Gerraty, Gerrity and so in. No wonder it is difficult trying to find relatives :-S. Has anybody else got this problem? |
