Recently when trying to copy and paste something on the computer I cant paste.. I highlite the item and that ok but when I go to paste it doesn't work.

Any ideas as to why this would happen? or how to fix it?

Silly question but when you highlight the item do you remember to click on Copy prior to clicking Paste?-jl

Have you tried a right click on to anything else to check that the fault isn't with the mouse.-jl

Hi Janet,

Just tried it and your correct I hadn't thought about that and it is my mouse then. I don't know how to fix it though.

It sounds as though you need to get a new mouse...all the large supermarkets sell them for a few pounds...as do Pc world /currys etc...

You just pull out the old one from the back of your tower or on the side of your laptop if you have one of them, and then plug in the new one and away you go.

In the meantime, you can type Ctrl-c to do a copy (hold the ctrl key down and type c) and ctrl-v to do a paste.

You can also switch the right and left mouse button functions if you go to the mouse section of Control Panel.

It might be worth trying to clean the mouse. I have found that crumbs or dust can cause it to misbehave and that a combination of shaking, brushing and blowing fixes it.

Glad that has sorted it. I would be inclined to get a new mouse.

I bought a new one three years ago and it has been sat on the shelf in its packaging until this week when my daughter called and complained about my mouse. Because my pc is awkward to remove I couldn't manage to get the mouse swapped over on my own and I have struggled all this time. Now I have a new mouse, life is wonderful again.-jl

Interesting thread - mine is unresponsive sometimes as well - highlight and right click and no options appear. But other times it's OK. My mouse is wireless. We upgraded the FireFox a couple of weeks ago, which is when the occasional problem started. Coincidence?

Hi Betty,

It's Control Panel - Hardware and Sound - Mouse.

If you can't find it, try Start / Type mouse / Search.

Just make sure you haven't inadvertently switched the buttons over i.e making the left click a right click and vice versa.

Also if it's a USB mouse (No wires) do check that the battery is alright as an almost dead battery will cause a lot of problems.

I have to admit that it sounds more like your mouse has eaten the cheddar.
............. on the trap ;))
