State Records Authority of NSW New South Wales, Australia, Gaol Description and Entrance Books, 1818-1930 with photographs

The era of transportation ended in 1868, and unfortunately many convicts continued their criminal careers regardless. If they were caught and imprisoned, you may find them in our Gaol Description and Entrance Books, 1869-1930, which includes registers for 11 prisons in New South Wales. As well as over 200,000 written records of convicts, there are more than 35,000 photographs – you might find the only photo ever taken of a criminal ancestor.
