Thanks for your help Kath, I am maybe swaying towards this as I can find quite a few other marriages for the sibling baptised as Mary. |

Molly can be a pet name for Mary and it is possible that she gave the name she was known by on her marriage certificate. Whoever recorded the information would just write down whatever they were told. |

I have a Lidia Atherton who`s parents were John Atherton and Mary, daughter of Peter and Alice Atherton. I have searched for a marriage of Peter and Mary in the late 1700`s in Wigan, and cannot find them. I found an almost definite baptism of Mary and siblings, one of which was Molly. |
