Hi Sylvia

Thanks for all your help - have a great holiday.
That road is very "twisty" but the views are lovely.

Hi Caroline

I have looked at the 1841 Census again, but I cannot find a Rich Beaver b. 1821 anywhere. I put in Rich, but Genes changed it to Richard, so I don't know if that would have made a difference? Did you find it on Genes or somewhere else? This has really got me puzzled!

I will have to go to bed now as it's nearly 12.15am. Didn't mean to stay on the comp. so long.

Thanks for your help/information. I'll see if I can find it tomorrow now.

Cheers.

Joy :-)

Hi SatNav

Thanks for helping me with the 1851 Census. I was just about going blind trying to work out what it said, the writing was that feint.

If it says he "Farms 4 acres" does that mean he actually owns the land? It's just that on the 1861 Census, he's not with his family. Mary and the children are at Fingland and he shows up at Holme Abbey as a Groom?

Haven't found him yet on the 1871 Census, so he could be hiring himself out anywhere I suppose...

Caroline -

Yes! I've got him. Must have been too tired last night. Thanks ever so much. I had tried every variation of Vevers and not found anything - never thought of a V turning into a B!

Thank you both so very much for your help, your just wonderful...

Cheers.

Joy :-)

Joy.
To answer your question about whether you owned a farm if you farmed it. I say not always.
My 2xgt grandfather Spark farmed 13-14 acres in Newlandside Durham for years. I was sent details from another Spark relative who had got the info of how much they were paying to lease the land. It had his signature which was a bonus

Newlandside is Stanhope area and the site of the Newlandside limestone quarry mine. The Spark family were miners in that mine. I have a photo of the Newlandside cottage High House they had lived in for at least 30 years. Its falling down now sadly
