A church probably existed at Prestwich from the 12th century, and the present church dates from about 1450.
The parish of Prestwich cum Oldham originally covered the townships of Prestwich, Great Heaton, Little Heaton, Tonge with Alkrington, Pilkington (which included the hamlets of Whitefield, Outwood and Unsworth), Oldham, Chadderton, Crompton and Royton, and until the middle of the 17th century the Oldham area contributed towards bread and wine for St. Mary's, even though a chapel, also dedicated to St. Mary, existed at Oldham from the middle of the 15th century. (See L160/1/14).
The next chapel in the parish to be built was at Shaw before 1515, followed by St. Saviour's, Ringley in 1626, St. George's, Unsworth, consecrated in 1730, St. Paul's, Royton, consecrated in 1757, St. Peter's, Oldham, 1768, St. Margaret's, Hollinwood, 1769, All Saints, Stand, 1826, and St. James, Oldham in 1829.
The Parochial Chapel of Oldham (St. Mary's), St. Peter's, Oldham, St. James's, Oldham, St. Margaret's, Hollinwood, St. Paul's, Royton, and Holy Trinity, Shaw, were assigned Districts, from the parish of Prestwich cum Oldham by Order in Council 4 March 1835, (London Gazette, 5 May 1835).

I can't find that marriage in Lancs on line, and both Oldham and Prestwich are covered.

Hi...
Thanks for your help but it says the church was established in 1847... They married in 1832....So I dont suppose it would be there.

I haven't yet found one in the parish that did, as of yet...

I've had a look on google. This is an old parish, Prestwich is now part of Manchester, and the church there is St Mary's. I've had a quick look at Lancs on line, but no luck yet. I'll just try again.

Hi all

After a two year search I have managed to find the marriage details of my 3x GGrandparents.
The problem now is I can't find the church....I have googled,, and been in touch with St James in Oldham..It's not them.
Another in Thornham wasn't built then..
Can anyone help..
The marriage is for Robert Whitehead and Christiana Lonsdale in August 1832.
Thanks
Diane
