Joy Report 27 Jul 2010 21:28

GR invited its members to apply to participate in market research due to take place in London; also, I believe that members were invited to contact the market research company through its given email address.

After I sent an email stating "My opinion is that it would be more useful if the questions that would be asked in the research were sent to each paid and unpaid member. Otherwise, I really do not think that there will be a balanced result. The site has members worldwide; therefore it would, I feel, be unfair to solely concentrate on members based in or near the capital of England.", I received a reply from GR, part of which stated "We are also going to be conducting an online survey though that you'll be able to take part in." I have not yet seen the online survey on GR. However, I understand that it is advertised on facebook.

In the event that GR does not advertise it through GR, I think it is important that we give constructive criticism – the site is given on GR’s page on facebook:
"For all those who could not take part in the research study sessions taking place in London, we have created an online survey. Participate in the survey here http://www.zoomerang.com/Survey/WEB22AXVZ2AAJ7"

I'm going to put up messages, with the link, on all boards, right now because I also think it important that everyone on here knows about this.

Brought forward because it is important, in my opinion.

Perhaps this should be nudged now and then, in order to bring the survey's site to people's attention in case this site's administration does not advertise its presence to all membership of this site.

Use that link I gave above

I have just used the zoomerang site, and filled out the survey.

It took me about 20 minutes ..... largely the last 2 sections where you have to write comments and suggestions. Thought required!!!

Hi Syliva

I just tried to do the survey again via Facebook and it wouldn't let me. The message came up that this survey has already been taken.

I still believe they should have put a link on this site to get a true indication what the members want. I have noticed that the Facebook page now has 380 friends which doesn't compare with the Ancestry page that has 84,000 odd friends.

IGP

I think that is the point

......... there has been no link on THIS site, on any boards, to direct active users of GR to the survey.

and that is what SHOULD have been done.

I shall be doing the survey as soon as my daughter and family leave later this mroning

I wonder if there is any way to prevent people filling out the survey more than once ...... or 20 times???

The survey is on the Zoomerang site. They are professional survey compilers. My employer used them regularly. I'm pretty certain that if you log on to your Facebook Account it will simply re-directly to that site.

What GR should have done, perhaps, is to add a link to the survey on this site.

My reply from GR this morning

Dear Sylvia

Thank you for your email.

Please find below a link to the survey that you refer to.

If I can be of any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Nothing said about a survey being done through THIS site.

Hi Ladies

I really don't understand why they put the survey on Facebook in the first place as the GR page only has 339 people that like the page. I would have thought putting the survey on here in the first place would be far more beneficial to obtaining an outcome.

I may do the survey again - forgot to say I thought they should remove the silly names from the database, ie Donald Duck.

SylviaInCanada Report 24 Jul 2010 23:56

Thanks for that Joy

I'm going to hold out to see if they do indeed put their survey on THIS site

Joy Report 24 Jul 2010 23:33

Having been told in a reply email that there would be a survey on this site for those unable to attend the market research sessions, I would have waited to see it, and still shall do so; however, having seen that their survey is on face book - here is the link to it:

http://www.zoomerang.com/Survey/WEB22AXVZ2AAJ7

I hope they keep their word and put it on this site, too.

I've been hearing about this survey on Facebook

I refuse to join Facebook .... so another pm to GR, sigh!

I understand from other members that there is an online survey ....... on FACEBOOK. I refuse point blank to join Facebook, it is having serious privacy concerns here in Canada, and is under investigation by the Federal Privacy Commissioner. Please can you tell me why you are conducting an online survey through such a site. And also, how may I participate in that survey. I have been disenfranchised by you ...... and so have many other members. I am not the only GR member who is not a member of Facebook. Is this a deliberate way to again only get information from a select group of GR members? I did suggest in an earlier email to you that you should contact GR members through the email addresses that you have. This would ensure that only active members would contribute to the survey as they are the ones who will have maintained their home email addresses with you. On an open site such as Facebook, you are likely to get a weird collection of responses. I look forward to receiving a reply from you ..... and hopefully, a chance to participate in the survey.

I will await their response ...... hopefully on Monday!!

I got a reply to the email I had to send through the pm system

Dear Sylvia

Thanks for your email, we're very grateful for the time you've taken to send us such constructive feedback.

You've put forward some very valid points, and i'll certainly ensure that these are passed onto our marketing department to take into account for any future surveys we may decide to undertake.

Best regards,

Julie
