I have not found anything else on him after the 1841 census. Thank you for reminding me of the birth date being rounded down. It is easy to overlook that.

Have you found his death? Or have you checked 1851 onwards to see if he survived a bit longer maybe?

You could try sussexweald - it doesn't cover the whole of Sussex but it might help ...

Don't forget that the 1841 rounded down the ages to the nearest 5 years - so he could have been born somewhere between 1787 and 1791.

My 3x grandfather Thomas Thorne born c1791 and listed as Thoren on the 1841 census is shown as being born outside the county of Sussex. He was a plasterer as were his son and his son alike. Thomas married Elizabeth Shellitoe in 1817 at All Saints Hastings. I have been given advice before on GR but is there any logical way to trace their origins if born elsewhere than Sussex?? I have heard about settlement papers but would they have applied to everybody moving into a large town like Hastings>
