Hi Arthur, the official view of both the C of E and the RC churches are that children cannot be baptised twice.

Quite often though, if a child was sickly and thought unlikely to live, then it would be baptised at home and then, if it recovered, would be taken to church for a public welcome into the church - it was not baptised again.


Sometimes, our forebears got up to all sorts of tricks and, if they moved areas and were very poor, they were likely to have their children baptised again in order to gain parish relief. They would no doubt tell porkies to the Vicar realising that if he knew they had already been baptised he wouldn't do it again and they wouldn't gain the parish relief money.


Had a very busy day today. It is my OH's 75th birthday and so my daughter and my son along with his family, came round for a Chinese takeaway. We had a lovely time and they have now gone home.

It appears that Elizabeth Sarah Nichol(l)s was christened at St Gregory, Sudbury, Suffolk, England on 09 Dec 1808 and again in All Saints, Sudbury on 06 Nov 1814. Parents in both cases Peter Nichols and Sarah (Redgewell/Richbell)

We observe Remembrance Day on the 11th ......... so there were services at all the Cenotaphs and Memorials all across Canada.

It is a Statutory Holiday ...... so offices, banks and many other places were closed. Of course, the big grocery stores, department stores and places in the downtown area and tourist areas were all open.


It is nice to see that more and more young people are going to the Cenotaph services, and many families are taking their young children there as well. So there are more poeple than, say, 10 years ago.


It was pouring with rain in Vancouver at 11 am

then it dried up, the sun came out ......................


and then we got the weirdest weather!

In a space of 10 minutes, we had thunder, hail, cloudburst, sun ........ and then the forecast gale force wind arrived


I watched 80-90% of the leaves on our big old cherry tree all blown off within about 10 minutes!


The ferries have stopped, as they cannot get into or out of dock without damage.

Tanker ships moving down the coast have been having difficulties ..... pray God none of them go aground or get damaged.

There are a lot of trees blown down in various areas ....... and a lot of people without power in those areas.



Robert ......... I do hope that that there C uses a blunt pin if she does try to winkle you out. I would hate to see you punctured.


Sally ......... there are a lot of stories on fb aren't there? Very interesting to read them

Well Cynthia, I have never been "winkled" before so that should be quite an experience.

Life is not so much about experience more about experiences!

Morning all 7am again - very misty this morning - Seagulls are out looking for food & testing their vocal chords quite loudly.

Arthur - sounds like a wonderful time - we visited Ypres just after rememberance day - it was all very morving & the thousands of poppies

Very momentus day today 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of the 11th Year - it won't happen again in our life time.

Hopefully we will have a little peace at that time of the morning - i think the 1st World War was awful much worse than the 2nd & we will never see the likes again thank goodness.

I really must find a good hairdresser - they are so expensive round my way.

Amazing news Sue - wish i could get rid of a few of mine like that.

Looks like I may have a weekend at home - and a chance to get on with some Tree work - feels like months since I had a good prune & dig about. Will miss the money in December though - I keep hoping for a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow after all the storms we have had in the last few years. No calm yet - maybe its just around the next corner.

Well it was very very quiet here yesterday - we were all fighting over each job that came in - i can always find something to do - it just makes the day go sooooooooooooo slowly - thought it was nearly hometime at it was only 2. Hope today is better.

Well better go - see if anyhting came in over night I can get stuck in to.

Will pop in lunchtime for a look around - also try & get in sometime over the weekend. Need to install the new Norton - always keeps me busy.

Arthur you have been busy,I am glad you finally found the place you were looking for ,I think I would have been scared being in a foreign country to boot.

Very envious all the same.

I got rid of a few of my brick walls yesterday as well as a very cheeking person looking to get the very kind people of Genes to do all of his research for him.... all 40 threads of them taking up the first two pages on trying to find boards.

Robert 2012 is not to far away when you think about it ,I don't know where the year has gone ,Christmas is only a few weeks away too and I have not bought a thing yet.
We love your friendly banter it brings a smile to our faces.

Cynthia I hope your hair dressing outing was good I was there last week ,I always feel terrific when I come out of there,
Both my eye operations are now booked in at the Hospital ,one on 20 th Feb and the other 19th march.

Anne you have a fabulous memory and your life sounds so interesting ...busy but interesting,I don't know how you keep going at the rate you do.

Reece lovely to hear from you ,thankyou for your kind words ,still no news yet from the UK on the arrangements yet.His sister is getting all that taken care of she is the strong one in the family.

Sorry the weather is on the decline for you all over there and we are warming up ,that is the only thing about OZ that I hate the hot Summers...they can be very energy zapping at time especially after a week of 40c+.

Had a wonderful weekend in Belgium - the sun appeared as we entered Belgium after monsoon rain from the Shuttle terminal.

Visit was to hear a Scottish friend give 3 talks to the Flemish Rock Garden Club in Gent- I was the guest speaker last year.

As weather was so nice we walked for several hours around Gent - very beautiful.

We were staying in a B & B nearer to Bruges in the village where one of my Belgian friends lives. We were following his car and a friend in my car was 'carefully' watching to ensure we followed the right car. Unfortunately, he was not careful enough and we ended up following the wrong car. It was now midnight Saturday.

No panic - found a service station and with the help of a French speaking Belgian found his telephone number and address - I recognised this as he is a member of the Cyclamen Society of which I am the Membership Secretary.

Located the village and found a very helpful Belgian who guided us to the road we wanted - he drove his car with sat nav as he was not sure. Cannot imagine that happening here in the UK.

Sunday was grey and cold so we spent a long time looking at an art exhibition in the cathedral. Getting out of Bruges was a nightmare, made especially bad as Bruges were playing Anderlecht at football. We missed our shuttle, but caught the next one.

The Belgians are planning a coach trip to a flower show next March and it will be great to renew friendships.

After all the excitement I need to do some steady research, though if the sun shines I really need to do the garden before the snow arrives.

Hi Sally,

My father was blinded in first World War and Daughter works in a "Blind School" so I am used to having visually impaired people around. It never ceases to amaze me how much they can do and getting so much out of life.

Morning all - no rain today - dark when I leave home - dark when I get home - feel a bit like a mole & I work in a dungeon -

Well it feels like it - about two foot from our window are the high walls to
the gardens of the houses in the street behind us.

We can see a bit of greenery on the walls - a few birds - the odd cat sometimes. Lights going on & off in the houses - in summer the odd window open - mostly we lookat the garden walls or house walls & see a bit of roof - so we know when its raining.

We get a little bit of sun in the summer - my friendly seagull has just landed on the wall & is looking in at me - thinking strange place this - one silly human on her own tapping away at a machine.

I am nibbling away on some popcorn at the moment & very nice it is too.

Any one watching the Jury? Wasn't sure about it at first decided (unlike the male partner) that I would give it a go - i like Julie waters - if after wednesday nothing happened - then I would forget it.

If it wasn't for Julie Waters I think it would be very dull. However it seems to have gripped me now - i want to see if he is guilty or not. I know my feelings at the moment - want to see if it changes by friday night.

Sally lovely to see you pop in again - glad you had a good time at the garden centre - I think those clubs are wonderful - everyone seems to get so much out of it - I use to help out in one years ago.

Reece lovely to see you too - glad things are improving

I am feeling a little better today but the pain is still hovering around the ribs - it has been a truly unpleasant experience with painkillers prescribed making me terribly sick as well. Have just had two nights of reasonable sleep which must help.

Good news Sylvia - I am very pleased for you.

Thinking of you Evelyn and Ron - you are in my heartfelt thoughts and prayers and send love to you both.

Sue I know how you feel and send sympathy and kind thoughts to you at this sad time.

You are being very brave young Robert! Don't risk the "rolling pin" treatment!

Sylvia - again wonderful news - you must be feeling so much better now - whats a little physical exam twice a year - compared to drug taking.

Sue - hope the news arrives soon for you - its horrid having to wait - had to wait for the autopsy & medical enquiry for my mum - just prolonged everything & it seemed never ending. Having Easter in between didn't help either. My mum never was one for an easy life right to the end.

Hope Evelyn & Reece are ok - anyone heard anything?

Robert - your shell may not be the best place when women with rolling pins are around - may be better to retreat to the hills & find a nice little cave somewhere for a week or two while they calm down.

Cynthia - where are you? Have you retreated too since Roberts little comment.

Well its still warm for the time of year - but wet - again - daylight breaking through or trying to.

Must wonder off to see whats been going on as i left at 3:30 yesterday.

A further development is that


........... I will not even be taking Tamoxifen!!


I got a phone call about 6 pm on Tuesday evening ago, from the doctor I saw on Monday.

Because of the very low risk that I've got, he had consulted with an oncologist. The oncologist thought my risk rate was close to 5%, rather than the 10% Voduc had been working on when making his suggestions.


Oncologist then worked out that I would get 1-2% benefit from taking tamoxifen, balanced against a 1% increased risk of blood clot and 1% increased risk of uterine cancer ..... plus the hot flashes.

Basically the risks are almost outweighing the benefit in my case.


Both of them decided that they would be comfortable if I decided not to take tamoxifen.


So that is what I have decided.


My treatment now is 6 monthly physical examination by my GP.

Sylvia that is wonderful news I am so happy for you and your family.

My S.I.L. was given Tamoxafin to take for 5 yrs or as she calls it Oral Cemo.

I don 't think she has had any side effects from taking it.

Robert you are a rascal,I suspect trouble is brewing ladies he is coming out of his shell or should I say cave but it is getting a bit cold over there at the minute with winter approaching.

Evelyn I do hope Ron is now more comfortable ,quietly rest in front of the TV,my love a thoughts are with you both.

Josie very exciting news with your distant relies on the way ,I would love some of my replies in the Uk to come over to OZ a few have made the journey but not many it is a long flight for them.

Still no news on my cousin funeral ,he has an autopsy Thursday so I guess some time next week .
An uncle of mine from my mums side is going to the funeral for us to represent the family over here .....its the best we can do at such short notice.

The only thing in life that frightens me is women - more so women with rolling pins so it's back in the shell for the rest of this year.

Congratulations Sylvia. My wife had a mastectomy 14 years ago and was on Tamoxifan for 5 years with no further problems
