Sylvia
Frustrating that we can't find either of them.
William Sheppard must have been a saint to take on a wife and 3 children - not belonging to his wife!
Thanks for looking

Hi josie - really pleased you love your new job.
How wonderful being so artistic with cake decorating - would love to be like that - but I don't have the talent. I do like the idea of the wedding cake.
Didn't realise you had so much S*** in NZ - I have always wanted to visit & maybe even move there is I had the chance & the cash - now - I am not so sure - I can live with Earthquakes - but the cold & S*** thats another matter.
Do you get any S*** in the North Island around Wanganui or Rotorua - They would be my ideal areas - OH family emigrated over there in the 1800's - so he really wants to visit - one day we will get there. We are in contact with a distant cousin there - who sent us some photos - it was amazing to see them from so long ago.
Managed to get back from the outlaws in one piece - perhaps they have taken note of the economic climate at last - they haven't had a go at us about OH getting a part time job in weeks. Its sort of been a pleasure to visit - but we are always on our guard incase the topic turns up. you just can't relax - so you don't really get a weekend.
Gone back to work today for a rest. (some hope)
I have to admit i am fed up with the TV at the moment - its Football all the time -
Harry's Law has been Axed Josie - such a shame as I really enjoyed it - Did you get to see both series? - well I had better go - work calls.
Take care all <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3

Hi Everyone, Sorry it's been a while. I started my new Job at the end of May and work 4 hours 5pm-9pm Mon -Thurs. It Feels odd going to work at night, am enjoying working as a telephone Interviewer.
Something I never imagined I would ever do, as I have had a Phobia about phoning strangers all my life Until now. when I have confronted it . The first week though, I found myself in a state of share panic an hour before I had to leave for work each evening. But that has now gone.
I see that you have been enjoying the Jubilee Celebrations I was astounded to hear that people suffered mild Hypothermia on the Thames during the River Pageant I thought it was supposed to be Summer over there?
The weather over the last few days has been extremely cold and wet, we are fully into winter now with good snow falls at all the popular ski resorts.
Also poor Christchurch has had to contend with the Snow, Nearly a year and a half since the devastating earthquake, there are a lot of people who are still waiting for their houses to be repaired, or have no house at all and are living in Tents , Caravans or Cars. Continuous after shocks since Feb last year have made it difficult for decisions to be made as to what areas have to be abandoned and not rebuilt on and what areas are safe, where damaged houses can be repaired.
Sylvia I am sorry to hear that your Cabin was broken into again.
Evelyn wonderful to see you on the Thread again, So Sorry to hear about your Brother.
I saw mention on the Thread about the TV show 'Harry Law" I have been thoroughly enjoying watching that . Luckily the series finished here before I started work as I only get to see a few programmes that OH tapes for me.
I made and decorated a 2 Tier Wedding Cake for a friend of my Son's. The wedding was on Saturday. The Cake was Chocolate Strawberry. with white Fondant Icing and decorated with Strawberries made out of Fondant, and a Bride and Groom On top. I learnt how to Cake Decorate years ago at night school classes. And have made and decorated School Jubilee Cakes, Wedding Cakes and assorted Birthday and Anniversary cakes over the years.
I normally make moulded flowers for Wedding Cakes but this Bride wanted Strawberries and being winter real Strawberries where not an option. Personally, though I was happy with my work I thought the cake looked more like a little girls Birthday Cake than a Wedding Cake. The Bride who is only 19, was absolutely delighted with it.
I must go and make my Sons lunch to take to Work as he leaves in Half an hour. Take Care Everyone, catch you all later. Josie
:-) :-) :-) <3 <3 <3

I've been looking for your guys
and nada!
I think that what happened was that Thomas and Charlotte seaprated after Minnie was born, hence she lived with her grandparents after that.
I then think that at some point Charlotte began to live with a Mr Page, common-law ........ Florence should show up on the 1891 Census, but I can't find her.
Obviously Charlotte couldn't marry Mr Page, as Thomas was still alive.
But she could marry after Thomas died.

The mattress lifter is going back! It just wasn't suitable so, it looks as though he will stay in his recliner where he is comfortable.
The neuro nurse came yesterday and did the special exercies with him. It all helps towards keeping him mobile.
I went for my cholesteral results yesterday and they are far too high.. :-( So it's a case of upping the fruit and veg and getting more exercise. I have been given a pedometer and I put down how many steps I take a day. Managed over 6,000 yesterday because we went for a walk but Fridays are quiet days for me and the weather is too bad to walk in so I guess it will be a low reading tonight.
It's the cutting down on the choccy which is going to be difficult as I often sit here and nibble...........have obviously nibbled too much :-( What's more, I pulled a filling out with a toffee the other day.... :-( :-(
We've just had thunder and lightening - I love storms - but this one didn't last long enough for me.. :-D
Lovely to see you all. Take care, Cx <3

Hi Everyone
Things have calmed down a bit now for how long is anyone guess.
Sylvia sorry to hear they have been at your cabin again ,it would be the same here you can't leave anything for too long or else it just gets stolen or smashed just for fun.
My log fire is gong flat out, by the way it is freezing
The world has gone mad I think . So looking forward to the Tour De France ,Olympics and the cricket, will have sore eyes by the time it all finishes.
Having fun doing look ups again on the boards,I am a bit rusty though.
Anne I have been going to get to my Idea weight for years but I never get there, will do my best before I come back to the UK next year.
We have just got in from visiting the MIL so I am going to now get myself a stiff drink I deserve it.
Nice to see you back Reece and a big Definite yes on that meet up next year.
Love to you all, just started to rain again only drizzle this time.

Reece - how sad for your sister & her being so far away from you too
We are with the outlaws this weekend - so I will be absent from the thread - aparently we are going to have Gale force winds tomorrow - & we are visiting the east coast - hope we dont get blown away on a gust - with out combined weight - very unlikely anyway.
Just for a change I am working 5am till 8am tomorrow then leaving straight away for the East coast - its going to be a very very long day - probably fall asleep in their lounge during the afternoon.
Reece not a new diet - i do like my oatcakes - 6 or 7 dry oatcakes & a small bottle of water - I often have that for lunch - or i have a couple of handfulls of nuts & seeds (OH thinks I only eat bird food) occasionally orange juice as well - I can proudly say I have lost 8lbs in weight & kept it off for at least 2 weeks now :-D ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-) :-D
Only another couple of stone to lose (I wish) - if I did exercise I woudl lose more - but thats too much like hard work and its no fun either.
One day i will be back to my ideal weight - as soon as I hit 35 - bang pile on those pounds.
Well must away - Love to all the missing ones Take care all

A fresh pair of eyes needed
Referring to my earlier query that Sylvia assisted me, I have searched without success to find Thomas James Nicholls and his wife Charlotte Harriet Scowen on the 1881 Census and the 1891 Census.
Their child, Minnie Nicholls born 1877 appears to have been abandoned to grandparents - paternal in 1881 and maternal grandmother in 1891.
I know that Charlotte Harriet married in 1900 as a widow. I believe Thomas James died after 1890, but why nnothing on an 1881 Census.
Any help greatly appreciated. hope all necessary info is here, but rap my knuckles if not. :-)

Hello everyone,
We all seem to be having lots of different experiences - sorry about the cabin Sylvia, how irritating for you both. Yes, I put the gas fire on in the evenings and put a lovely Australian wool shawl over my legs when I'm watching the television. I don't read until I get into bed and then for only half an hour or less if I am enjoying Book at bedtime on R4.
Ann, is that some sort of special diet? I have to have cheese with my oatcake (1) and pineapple or apple juice!
Hope you are getting used to that special bed lift Cynthia - my sister in Sydney has Parkinsons and can no longer speak to me on the 'phone. She has to have a lot of help but is still at home with her husband, who soldiers on bravely and says it might not be long before she must go into full time high dependence care. It will be very difficult as she has always been so independent.
Thinking of Evelyn and Robert and his wife and sending all good wishes and <3 <3 <3 <3

My word, a lot of reading to do today! :-D
I saw that 'royal' episode of Antiques Roadshow and thought it fascinating to hear the stories from the people as well as what they brought.
My mother-in-law was a tailoress, and a very good one too. Sadly, my sewing skills are extremely minimal... :-(
Such a shame about your cabin Sylvs........it does rather sound like kids playing around though.
Nice to see that you've helped Arthur out - had a feeling you would come to the rescue :-D
Have been quite busy. OH has had an inflatable mattress lift put on the bed. Trouble is, both sides of the mattress go up so I'm not sure how we'll cope. We can only try......... :-S It may mean that we have to go for single beds.
Just watching Silk......very good.
Night all......Cx <3 <3

Sorry to hear of your troubles at the cabin. Thank goodness they didn't look under the bed!
Thanks for looking into my mystery.
I tried to find a marriage for William Sheppard where he took on step children, but so far no luck.
Also investigating Minnie Nicholls, the child of Charlotte's marriage to Thomas James Nicholls. Curiously, on the 1881 Census she is with her Nicholls grandparents, on the 1891 Census with her grandmother Charlotte Scowen - she continues to live with her and is shown on 1901 and 1911 Census, where Charlotte is the Head aged 79.
Will continue looking as this is intriguing.

I'm not sure what is going on ............
....... but this is the Charlotte from the 1901 Census in 1911
1911 Census
Name: Charlotte Sheppard Age in 1911: 55 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1856 Relation to Head: Mother In Law Gender: Female Birth Place: Islington Civil parish: Islington County/Island: London Country: England Street Address: 130 York Road, Islington, London N Marital Status: Married Years Married: 37 Estimated Marriage Year: 1874 Occupation: FLOWER MANUFACTURES Registration district: Islington Registration District Number: 10 Sub-registration district: Barnsbury ED, institution, or vessel: 28 Piece: 899
George Brown 25 Florence Brown 23 George Rubein Brown 4 Minnie Brown 1 Charlotte Sheppard 55 Meillie Page 19 b. Clerkenwell, sister-in-law William Page 15 b. Clerkenwell, brother-in-law
spellings a bit off!!
Births Dec 1906 (>99%) Brown George Reuben Islington 1b 270
There has to be something wrong, but I can't see what!!
I've been trying to find a marriage for Charlotte to a soembody Page between Thomas James death and marriage to William
or maybe she left William and married bigamously, or lived common-law
those are only my ideas!

Hi all xxx
Sue .............. we saw photos of Perth on the Weather Network on TV while we were away. It looked awful!
Reece ............. lovely to see you on here xx
I am soooooooooo glad that we had our own commentators for the Jubilee events. I've never thought them as good as the old BBC lot ........ but it sounds as thought they were miles and miles better than your lot!
Arthur .................. I'll have a look, see what I can suggest for you :-D
We got back quite late on Sunday evening
not a very good weekend ...............................
pouring rain on Thursday ..... hate driving the freeway when it's doing that!
showers and COLD on Friday and Saturday
Then ............. lovely and sunny on Sunday driving home ............ so had to dig to the bottom of one of the bags to find the sun lotion!
The cabin had been broken into again, as it was this time last year ................. and, like last year, it was probably in the last couple of weeks. Once again doors were left wide open, but there was no sign of water damage OR of animal visits (ie, no droppings, or such things).
They took a variety of things, ranging from the old but great gas-powered lawn mower to 2 pairs of Wellington boots to long-handled garden spade and 2 rakes, but the piece de resistance was the one very old work shirt that was paint splattered and needing a wash (or disposal).
They missed the under-the-bed storage drawer that had OH's tools such as the Maul, Machete, 2 axes, (all good quality and expensive), the radio and the coffee thermos.
We've now changed our plans of "selling some time", to "get rid as soon as possible".
We spent Saturday packing the car with as much stuff as we could.
This morning (ie, Monday), OH had to phone the RCMP station in the town near the cabin to report the theft
We stopped by the station on Friday to report it ................. to find a notice on the door ................
It closes at 4 pm on Friday, and is closed on Saturday and Sunday.
Of course, it was after 4 pm!
There was a phone number to use if you NEEDED to speak to a constable .................................
.............. we decided that we did not NEED to speak to a policeman to report a burglary when we could only say "between August last year and June this year" (even though our suspicions are sometime in the last 2 weeks).
so he had to phone and report it!
This evening, he went out, and I got to talk to a very nice sounding Mountie :-D :-D :-D
We have to fax a list of what went missing, it will be circulated to members of the detachment in case they come across stolen property ............ none of it was very expensive. No-one leaves "good" things in cabins ............... but OH does like good tools, so they are probably the most valuable.
It will go into the annual report, and allows them to keep tabs on activity in "cabin country".
I think it was probably "kids" in their late teens/early 20s.
On Saturday, we drove back from the cabin into the nearest small town about 45 minutes too late to see a small Cessna plane take off from the airport, try to go under the overhead wires at the edge of the main road, but hit the telephone wires then a huge restaurant sign on the other side of the road, turn upside down, and slide across the parking lot until it hit a building.
All 3 people walked away with very minor injuries .............
......................... but it was the talk of the town!!!
Google "100 Mile House plane crash" if you want to see more
what a weekend!!!
take care everyone

Hi Everyone
We have had very bad storms here in West Australia ,more to come at lunchtime so I am not looking forward to it .
The strong winds get me very nervous,we have trees down everywhere and the power is forever going on and off.
Anne I would love to catch up with who ever I can do when I get there ,my OH and I do not mind travelling around we plan to do it anyway. Always get London in the trips.
I have to get off now as I don't know when the power is going to go off on me. Much of Perth is still waiting to get there power back on .
Sally love the antique roadshow never miss it
Will try to get back again tonight if the powers that be let me.
Love to you all Suex <3 <3 <3 <3

Sounds very exciting Sally - did you work on lots of stunning evening dresses?
My nan was a Tailoress and did lots of interesting work - her sister in law was a Milliner - if only they had the money - they could have had a great working arrangement - trouble was as soon as you got married & had a family that was the end of your working life in those days.
Those were the good old days
I was nearly 17 when I left school - I liked junior school but hated senior school as the girls were horrible & treated me very badly - that’s why I didn't stay on for my exams. I use to be in a theatre group at junior school too as we had a proper theatre & stage - but it was all knocked down for development.
I ended up doing my exams & a degree after I left as I was there for me then and the people were so much nicer & really friendly. It made such a difference.
Oh well - enough of the doom & gloom
Such fun all the footie on the TV (I don't think) :-P :-P :-P :-P :-P - nothing to watch at all except repeats - loads of the stuff on sky have finished and they are not being renewed either - so you have to make up the ending you would have wanted.
I hate it when they cancel a show and don't provide a decent ending - you get left hanging in mid air. Looks like they have cancelled Alcatraz right on a cliff hanger. They have cancelled Harry's Law too & it was a really good evenings viewing.
Never mind - Murdoch has signed up for a 6th season - just hope they renew Body of proof now.
Well off to nose around the boards & see what’s going on.
Take care all <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3
