I still have my Internet Explorer ............... but mine is IE6, which is waaaaaaaaay out of date. It is still usable, and I keep it for some sites, including freebmd and familysearch

I downloaded Mozilla Firefox at some point last year ........................ can't remember what I did, but I now have 2 symbols on my computer

If I just click on Start, I have icons for Internet Explorer, and for Firefox ............... I just pick which one I want to open


I usually have 1 IE6, and 3 Mozilla Firefox all open at the same time

HI Everyone

I am having so much trouble with this site I can't begin to tell you
I am so frustrated.

I tried to downlaod Chrome that went haywire so I tried FireFox ..that got rid of my IE8 ...I like that Browser and wanted to keep it as well .
I thought I could use FireFox for Genes and the rest ( that works really well I might add ) EI8 XP.

I have edeleted FireFox now and have my IE8 back

I don't know why it is taking over as preferred Browser ...I did untick the default Browser box.

The site is faster since the weekend but I not see any other major changes to make me want to stay with this site .

Having to change this and change that ...have the latest Internet soft wear it is all too much for me .

I am hoping it will fix itself before my membership runs out :-(

I will get back again tonight ..better get some housework done <3

maybe they didn't bother getting the other children baptised???

I really can't answer your questions!

I can only offer possible scenarios

Maybe Charles was NOT with them in London ....... maybe he was with grandparents or some other relative.

Maybe he had already been baptised.

Family search does NOT have a full list of baptisms, or marriages, for any part of the country. So it is not surprising that you cannot find baptisms on there.

The baptisms for CERTAIN London parishes (not all!) on ancestry have come about as a result of ancestry getting access to the London Metropolitan Archives ............. I do not believe that familysearch has had that access.


A baptism could be arranged very quickly ............. especially if the child were sick.


and vicars were always glad to baptise children.


I'm afraid that much of the rationale behind these records will forever remain a mystery!!

Have not found baptisms/christenings for the other children - why just these two and not Charles who presumably was with them in London.

How quickly could a christening be arranged when itis not your regular place of worship

Why couldn't I find the baptisms on the Family search?

If you look at the image of those baptisms ............. you can see the actual birth dates!

Baptism took place on 30 June 1837

Frederick Thomas was born Jan 6 1836 ( I do think it is 36 not 26!)

Sarah was born February 10 1833

Their address at the time of the baptisms was King's Alley

and Samuel was a Cabinet Maker


This means that, for some reason, they waited to have these 2 children baptised.


This is a Samuel Neave on the 1841 Census, he is shown as an individual, BUT the rest of the family are living there with him ......................

That could explain what happened ............... maybe they were living in London for some reason, waiting to have the 2 children baptised when they went "home", but Frederick became sick .............. so they decided to have him baptised before he died. Might as well have Sarah baptised at the same time!

Whenresearching their births I found a christening for the pair, on the same day in Southwark, at St George the Martyr church - parents Samuel Neave cabinet maker and Eliza. However, on the Census for 1851 Sarah is shown as being born in Essex in Colchester where Samuel was born.

Checking IGI batches I could not find their christening when checking the batch for St George the Martyr.

All other children of Samuel and Eliza were born in Essex. Samuel was a cabinet maker.

Can anyone suggest an explanation - I cannot believe their are two marriages of a Samuel Neave, cabinet maker, to Eliza , having children Sarah and Frederick Thomas.

Island Hospital is on ITV1 on Friday evenings there is no blood and gore but they do show lots of the island,I think you would enjoy it Cynthia.

Can't say I have ever heard of Island Hospital to be honest. Not too keen on medical programmes and certainly can't watch anything medical to do with animals. I've been known to sit with a cushion over my head until OH turns it off.


I've downloaded Firefox too Sylvs. I now browse around between IE9, Chrome and now Firefox. It's really easy to download isn't it? I think it's a bit faster than the others too.


Have been out with my daughter today buying a new tv. Her old one went on the blink on Thursday, so that kept us out of mischief for a while. :-(


The loo seat problem is now sorted and all is well :-D :-D

I really enjoy Island hospital - I keep looking out for you. It looks lovely on a sunny day in the ariel view. Visited the Island many years ago now over 30, would love to go back again.

I now have a week off - managed to get 3 free nights away just B & B - I have one night at the new Waldorf Astoria at Syon Park and 2 nights at the Elms in Worcester & have managed to get a double upgrade on the rooms.

So we leave tomorrow & wake up on Monday in Luxury another year older - so we will have a luxury birthday breakfast in the Richmond area & then drive up to Worcester & spend our birthday evening with a nice meal & luxury hotel.

My OH does not want to be 60 so he is going to stay 59 + 1 etc

I have been told that 60 is the new 40 - so in theory life begins at 40 - sp hopefully things will improve for us now.

Well I will be off line for a few days - so hope everyone keeps well.

Perhaps we can have a birthday celebration when we are back & the thread is running normally again.

Hello everyone,
Its a cold and windy day here in the island feels quite wintery, I shall soon have to get the winter woolies out again.
Has anyone been watching the T V programme, Island Hospital ?, I have been watching it with mixed feelings because it is where my dear Mr Grumpy was treated until his death in December, we are very lucky to have such a wonderful facility and the care that is given to patients is second to none.
This thread is very quiet at the moment , guess everyone is busy with other things.
I am just plodding on, I have good and bad days which I suppose is common in the circumstances, just wish I had family living on the island, moving to the mainland is not an option as I have lived here since 1971 and I would be a stranger anywhere else so feel it best to stay here now., time to shake my feathers and get on with life I guess.
I hope you are all well I think of you all often.

Didn't realise IE9 needed Windows 7 - well I can't afford to change & happy with what we have.

Will just have to keep my tree on Ancestry & Toots magic in that case - must admit - haven't fiddled with this one recently - so will let you know if it is ok on mine.

New Loo seats are quite a trial - our Loo is a very small broom cupboard size - so couldn't swing a cat - OH has great trouble fitting new seats as no space to move - decorating even worse.

1 more day of work - really looking forward to a few days away

OH is 60 on Monday (he says he is 59+1)

Which means I am going to be a year older on Monday too - time flies too fast

I downloaded Mozilla Firefox last year .................. it's free, and it is what I now use for almost all my sites.


Ask your Computer Man about it.



I did it myself ................ just searched for it, then followed instructions, and as I said, it is free so it doesn't cost you any money.


I have very few problems with GR and Firefox


although I do have to say that I have not tried using my tree.

Quiet it certainly is around here. Never mind, we do get back together now and then - it's just that life keeps on moving at a faster rate than it seemed to. :-S


I've been in a tidying up mood so I sorted and cleaned some kitchen cupboards today.


We also bought a new loo seat which seemed a simple thing to do. Nope. OH was struggling to unfasten one of the bolts (?) underneath and couldn't manage it. Never mind, son was coming for his tea so he would do it. Nope. He couldn't undo it either. Went next door for a gismo. Nope. Didn't have what we needed. Old loo seat back on until son gets whatever gismo it is we need. :-( :-S



On the way out of the DIY shop this morning, I passed their sale section and spotted a lovely brown corduroy doggie doorstop. OH didn't have chance to blink before it was plonked in his arms to carry to the checkout.... :-D :-D


Sorry you've had probs with the tree Sue. I have to admit that I haven't had many probs with it at all and I haven't had to change anything re my computer.


Am ready for a nice sit down and browse now.

HI everyone

Sorry I have just been so flat out this week and trying to work this darn tree.

I am hoping to get my Computer man out next week to help me get it off here and put it on my My Tree on ancestry and my outside tree.
I won't have to worry about it anymore.

I have been having a look at some of the complaining threads ,a lot are like me we have IE8 and can't go to 9 as we need Windows 7 for that .

We can't all afford to update our Computers just because Genes decides to use a format for the future ,they should have given some thought to the older members who I think do most of the Genealogy anyway.

I don't mind admitting I don't know much about Computers but I am comfortable with my EI8 XP and I don't want to change it .

Right off my soapbox :-D

Yes the Thread is a bit quiet but we all have things to do and some days are just worst than others.
Mother In Law had a Cancer cut off of her nose last Friday ..we just got the news today they got it all and she is fine ...a few stitches and that was it.

I am looking forward to a nice quiet weekend ;-)

What a very quiet little thread

Whats happend to everyone this weekend

Its been a reasonably peaceful weekend - no overtime - but needed time to switch off really - even though we could do with the money - its nice to have time to ourselves.

One more week and then I have a whole WEEK OFF - hope yhis hasn't caused a fainting spell.

We have three free nights at a couple of hotels so it will be good to get away - home for 2 nights & then off to the outlaws for a couple of nights.
