Survived Christmas Day,
Hopefully have lost some weight due to the perspiration and the fact that I hardly ate anything due to the heat. It was a very hot sunny day with the temp getting to 28C.
We had dinner in the evening and had a simple lettuce salad, potato salad with Glazed baked Ham and rolled pork loin with stuffing.
For dessert we had my 'made up on the spot ' version of trifle sponge cake soaked in jelly then chilled , cut into squares, then set strawberry jelly with slices of strawberry piled onto a sponge square in a parfait dish then another thin square of sponge then cold custard poured over top and finally garnished with a couple of slices of Strawberry and a mint leaf. Then chilled. Did not bother with cream because of the heat. We ate dessert about an hour after our meal and it was enjoyed by all.
I was spoilt this Christmas with my daughter giving me a gold ticket to Cliff Richard's concert here in Wellington at the end of Jan. Can't wait!
I am a huge fan of Cliff's and a couple of years ago travelled to Auckland with my OH to see him perform with the Shadows on their farewell tour. At that time I thought it might be the last time I would get to see Cliff so was excited when I found out earlier that he was touring NZ.
I also got Susan Boyle's latest album which is lovely. looking forward to being able to see her in concert if she ever comes to NZ.
Have got the day to myself today as OH and his Brother have travelled to Wanganui [3 hours] to watch Motor Bike Races that are run on a street circuit and held every Boxing Day. My first cousin Eddie used to ride professionally until an accident while racing in Japan, caused him to retire from the sport. However he decided to come out of retirement and has been racing again for the last 3 years in the 'Old Foggies' Class :-D :-D So OH will be hopefully catching up with him again this year.
I hope all of you survived Christmas and that Santa was kind to you.
Would gladly send you some heat Sally if I could bottle it :-D
It is not normally as hot as this in Wellington in Dec we usually get heat like this in Feb. I t's supposed to be raining today, The blue sky I woke up to, has now turned to cloud making it very oppressive and muggy. but just as I am writing this the Sun has suddenly pushed it's way through the clouds and is pouring in the window, which like every other window in my house is wide open. Time for another cup of tea. Take care catch you all later Josie :-) :-) :-) <3 <3 <3

It's 9.30pm Christmas Eve and I am sitting here with all the windows and doors open and a fan on my back. It soooo hot.
Today's high was supposed be 24C instead it reached 28C and is currently sitting at 23C.
A massive tropical cyclone hit Samoa then Fiji last week and then headed straight for NZ, the upper part of the Country has been effected with very heavy rain and severe thunder storms. And the moist hot air meeting colder air coming from the south Caused Sea fog to roll in and close down the airport at 4 pm Yesterday. A rare occurrence for Wellington.
Well I wanted to write more but I'm to hot, so I will wish each one of you a Happy day tomorrow.
Josie

Isn't it lovely when little links, like that of Reece and Arthur are found? :-D
Sue sounds as though she is going to be madly busy and very hot over the next few days.
However you are going to spend the time, I send you my love and wish you all a very Happy Christmas and a Peaceful New year.

Hi everyone
Just got a moment on the computer .................... actually OH's laptop hooked up to son-i-l's computer. Everythings's different, so you'll have to bear with me.
It's snowing today .................. the others have gone out now the littlie has woken from his nap, but I'm staying home with the cats :))
We had a good trip out, and met loads of nice people. Some of them will be on the same train from Toronto on Dec 28 as us.
We were delayed on every section of the trip across the country .............. once becasue someone ahd reported "a man on the tracks", and the railway police wouldn't let our train leave the station until they had checked it out!
Not sure when I will get back on the 'puter as we leave on the train again on the 28th
Merry Christmas everyone

Hi Everyone
I can now say I have finished my Christmas shopping :-D
all need to get is the salads for Christmas day ,I have 11 for lunch and 7 for dinner.
We are expecting around 35c for Christmas day... a tad hot for the traditional Roast so it is now a salad for the big day ,still cook my Turkey and chickens and we have a ham on the bone my Favorite ;-).
Reece I do hope you recover soon ..it is so nice to see so many back again.
Josie nice to have you back with us and i am sorry to hear your hubby is out of work ,have you considered moving to OZ ,there is plenty of work in the mining industry.
I sympathise with you having the son coming home again I so value my privacy now with all the kids with there own families. It sounds cool in New Zealand ...I would have thought you may have some of our hot weather like us .
Anyway I have been told to get off as the Grandaughter wants to use the computer :-|.

Reece
I do hope you back improves. My father suffered from a slipped disc in his back and I remember how painful it was.
I was not taught by Joe Melzer, but I do remmber him - a large man with large hair. I was taught by Bobby Brown who was responsible for the plays and by Mr Fitzhugh. Happy days.
I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and let us hope that 2013 will be better than 2012.

Hello friends,
I wanted to wish you all a very Happy Christmas and a good New Year to follow.
Unfortunately, I can't sit at the computer for more than about five minutes as I now have disc problems in my spine. I am making a slow recovery though.
Arthur, I have just read your message about Derek Jacobi - were you taught by a wonderful English teacher named Joe Meltzer? He taught Derek and when Derek was knighted he wrote to congratulate him and had a really lovely letter back. Sadly, Joe is no longer with us but was one of our dearest friends and I especially miss him and his dear wife Claire. They, too, had a most engaging cat!
Happy Christmas one and all.
Love,
Reece<3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3

Arthur - how wonderful - did you watch the show?
He looks a lovely genuine person.
Cynthia - loads of people with colds all around us - OH still not that well & its been over 2 weeks now - due to go to the outlaws tomorrow but not sure if we should due to his cold.
If the "Last Tango" gets a repeat you should give it a go Cynthia
Take care all

Hi all....popped in to catch up with everyone's news.......a very mixed bag of news indeed.
I'm more or less finished for Christmas I think - just a few bits and bobs. We are hoping to go to our son's for Christmas lunch but it seems they are suffering from bad colds at the moment..... :-(
We finally put our Christmas tree up on Monday because the grandchldren were coming on Tuesday. Up it went, plus a few decorations..and blow me.....they were poorly and didn't come.......typical!!
Sylvia has gone to visit her daughter and will be away for at least a couple of weeks I think.....hope she has a wonderful time. :-D
Arthur - what a wonderful thing to have known Derek Jacobi. We haven't watched the Halifax series but remember him so well in his various classical roles. A great actor and seems like a very nice man.
Ah well........I'd better get moving on.
Love to you all.........Cx <3

I went to school with Derek Jacobi and he was a terrific actor even then.
I acted with him in Hamlet. When the play went to the Edinburgh Festival they had girls from the Girls Grammar school playing the female parts and I was ousted. Very non Shakespearean.
We all knew he was destined for greatness.

Change of Thought
Anyone watch "Last Tango in Halifax" over the last few weeks
Most of the script was teriffic - a couple of the weeks were a bit slow in a lot of places & I lost interest for a short time - but the last two nights it all stired up. It was really nice to see a programme with actors who could actually act - not just read a script & walk about a bit. I do think its more a girls thing really - but it did keep you wondering what was going to happen next - I wont spoil it for anyone who is playing catch up - but there is going to be another series Phew :-) :-) :-)
If it gets to the other side of the world - make sure you get to watch it if you like a nice family story with a twist. Derek Jacobi - Anne Reid - Sarah Lancashire and other good actors - Derek Jacobi was a real scene stealer like Dame Maggie is & Anne Reid had a real twinkle in her eye - she has proved what a fantastic actor she is.
A few weeks before I saw "The Paradise" also with Sarah Lancashire in & she was so much better in this one.
Anyway enough of the local TV review & back to work.
Take care all <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3
