I loved the Brian Blessed episode I have always loved him.

I wish it had gone on longer as I wanted to find out some more.

Looking forward to a long weekend at home. We have a few computer issues I am really going off them and our neighbours. They are both working with power tools in the garden, talk about a quiet Sunday.

Thought that Brian Blessed was too precious and spoilt the programme.

Also it felt unfinished as it ended at 2x Gt Grandfather's death.

Found the social history very interesting - application of Poor Law and the workhouse.especially so.

Hi Everyone

So So Sorry for not being around but I have been without my computer for a while ,the Modem Router packed up so I had to wait for a new one from my Internet Provider,I am the proud owner of Budii lite,it does everything ,I believe they call them Hubs.

Anyway the computer is running very well ,still have my XP :-D

We have at last seen the OH's Neurosurgeon, for the second time and he says Oh need an Operation on his Neck and his Rist,after that he may get the use of his fingers back about 50%,he is happy with that and he will not need so much medication,that makes him feel sick so he takes a tablet for that too a vicious circle.

I am just getting back on after a while and have a few un dates to take care of so will be back on a bit more from now on :-D

well that cool spell that I mentioned on my last post only lasted 2 more days, then it was back to the heat.


We have had temperatures in the high 20s every day (except for those 3) since the end of June!



It was just a shade cooler today, and thus a little more pleasant!


I had to go for physio, and it was really quite pleasant walking on the shady side of the street, then looking north down side streets to see the water and the mountains :-)

Physio is down on what we call "4th Avenue" which was the heart of hippiedom back in the 60s ................... many of those who live, or frequent, down there are still free spirited!


I saw one old lady (older than me!) pushing her wheelie, and dash out to cross the main road seconds before the lights changed!

Fortunately, she made it across ......................... but only because the traffic did not begin to move :-)



My physio only came home Monday evening ................... from 2 weeks in England.

He loved it, said they had a great time ....................... but was horrified at the cost of everything! Most especially, a small snack for 4 of them

hello all

hopeing you are all well

I have found it a bit overwhelming all though very good coveridge of the ww1 and shed a few tears as my pic shows my uncle by marrage was killed in it but two uncles came home my dad was not quite old enough


the planes have been busy over us today it seems as if there is one up there all the time and if you have seen the news there was a bomb scare

he wheather has cooled at last and I nave been busy on my tree with a lot of help from Derek on his Derbyshire thread

back home again after our weekend trip to the Island!!



We had a great time ...................... no WiFi access in the Cottage, so no internet access

Our friend had lost a lot of weight in the late winter / early spring, when she was very depressed ............... she went down to about 82/83 lbs. She's now back up to about 92 lbs ............... but that is about 15 lbs too light for her.


We came back with 3 more paintings, 1 beautiful large wooden bowl carved out of Bigleaf Maple, and a couple of books ........ all gifts from our friend

Now we have to find room for them all.



The weather cooled off while we were away .............. it was so much more pleasant for sleeping!

The hottest day we had here was just under 30C in the shade in the back garden. That was HOT!

We even had a little rain .................. the gardens loved that %3A-%29

we could really do with a downpour like some of you have had %3A-%29

I usually go to grandparents' siblings. If I can easily find a marriage, then I add the spouse and children. If the spouse's parents are also easily found, then I will add those

But I don't usually trace up more than the spouse's parentage or siblings (that is, unless one of the siblings also marries into my line)


As you say, it can get very complicated and makes for a very big tree!

Cynthia I know just what you mean my granddaughter started work three weeks a go part time at the moment while training at mc donalds in Peterborough until they open in bourne in august then it will be full time exept for day releace for study

artheur I have been watching the highlits on c5 of the cricket but they are not very good at it

This tree has no mention of his second wife Annie.

I am never sure when to stop when investigating other than my direct line e.g. brothers and sisters of great grandparents. Tree gets very complicated.

Annie Miriam Sophia seems like a very nice person. She took on her husband's children by first wife Sarah Coe. and she looked after her mother who went blind and is noted as an imbecile on the 2011 Census. I assume this could mean Alzheimer's and must have been difficult with so many small children.
Her husband does not score so highly leaving her in 1914 and going to Canada. Maybe he went to make money to support the family - I will probably never know.

Weather today is too hot - could touch 33C. Ideal for watching cricket but I should be doing the garden.

I've been really busy researching WW1 soldiers but come onto GR for a quick mosey round and to send my messages out every day.


OH and I are keeping well......considering all things! We did feel our age when our granddaughter left school a few weeks ago. Where does time go??


Arthur, have you tried the following site? Also, if you google for cemeteries in the area you are researching, you should get quite a bit of information about what is available online or, at least how to find out about things work. Good luck.

Found F G B Well's probate.

He left £750 Administration (with will) to Jack Glover attorney solicitor for Charles Wells. Charles was from his first marriage.

Its addictive isn't it - especially if you find an interesting fact like Frederick emigrating to Canada. Sadly we will not know his reason - unless a descendant knows and reads our posts. Also interesting he should claim to be a farmer when the census does not show any connection.

There must have been contact with Annie Miriam as she waited until he died before remarrying.

Thank you once again for filling in some gaps.

I noted the reference on the 1911 Census to the fact that Ann Palmer was blind and an imbecile. She was living with her daughter? Her husband was living next door, so could it be that on the day of the Census she happened to be visiting her daughter - presume this would have been shown with her marked as visitor

I have joined the Borders Family History Society and hope to flesh out my mother's maternal grandfather - my great grandfather. He was a teacher and highly respected - I know this from a Bishop's review of poetry he wrote.
