By the way, if you have a condenser boiler it turns out that they are prone to icing up on the return pipe taking the waste steam / water back to the boiler.
On the older normal boilers they just vent it to the atmosphere!

Quite busy today as companies try to get all the year end work out of the way before the next holidays.....only two days to go.

We are going to have a Les Miserables viewing on New Years Day as I bought my OH the 25 years edition at the O2 Arena for christmas and it's her favourite but I also got her Hypnose perfume and Paul O'Grady's "The Devill Rides Out"

Got to keep my beautiful wife happy ;))

Hello Everyone,
well here we are Xmas all over for now only 360 odd shopping days till the next one.
We had a lovely Xmas, no cooking for me as my sister in law and her sister did it all, I just sat and was waited on, very nice for a change but I dont think it would suit me on a permanent basis.
Ron bought me a Sony book reader, now I have to learn how to use it, I will have a good read of the instructions before making any attempt to use it, Ron also gave me a £50 voucher for M&S, so I have done very well and am very grateful.
Watch out Robert I am catching you up age wise, I dont feel as if I am 78 well not in my mind anyway, I am still very young at heart.
Glad you enjoyed your trip Frank and hope work wasnt too much of a chore when you went back today.

Robert, it's okay to have the odd aches and pains you know but just make sure that you wrap up warm. Have you had your flu jab? We had ours a few weeks ago.


It's damp and rather miserable here but at least the snow has almost gone. I can cope with rain! I've been busy trying to get things done for my daughter's birthday. She is 40 tomorrow and I have been wrapping presents, buying a couple of helium balloons and picking up her cake - she doesn't know about the cake so I have had to hide it.

We're only having a small family buffet as she can't cope with parties too well but it still involves a certain amount of work! Going to buy the food today.


Josie, I could just do with a nice break on the beach...any space?


My boiler is fine in this weather and the new part is coming on Tuesday apparently. It's when the temperature drops that we have a problem.

and while today was quiet, it was a beautiful hot day and
I would rather had been at the beach

as the sun shone and with all doors open there was Barely a breeze
blowing and we were cooking inside cleaning winter coats and Duvet's.

Robert it's OK to feel strange now you have reached old age

just make sure you do not start acting strange otherwise people may think

you have gone 'gaga' and want to but you away in some nice rest home.

You have got an excuse to' hit the bottle' instead of the pipes and drown your sorrows and forget what a crappy Christmas it was.

Seasons greetings to you or Happy Holiday as they say in the good old USA.........

Sorry I can't help with regard to old age being a mere whipper snapper myself but I do constantly feel as though I am about 35 although that was more than 20 years ago.

That's us back and shattered and I just hate that return flight leaving Washington at 6.45pm to arrive at Schiphol at about 2.00am (9.00am european time without managing to get to sleep.
A leisurely breakfast then we managed to grab a couple of hours in the relaxation lounge then back up to get the 3.00pm flight to Glasgow.
We couldn't get booked on the early 10.00am flight so we are now trying to find the energy to make something to eat before having an early night.

Back to work tomorrow but at least it will be quiet and it's a short week !!

Morning all,

In the early days of my "old age", I feel strange.
I feel different, but how am I supposed to feel at this age. My joints and muscles are a bit more sore but I think that is because I have been walking more in of the snow.
Unfortunately - or should I say fortunately - you are all so young and unable to give me any advice.

Glad I am not at work as it was busy all day yesterday with canx flights in the US.

Where is everyone - its gone very quiet here

Well Cynthia,

It's a very large stockpot with an integrated perforated boiling basket and the turkey is put into the oil standing upright on a spike.
The heat is provided by a gas ring which of course is only used outside.

Seems like a boys toy where all the menfolk gather around the fire pit with their beers and discuss the latest in power tool technology while keeping an eye on the turkey.
The women stay inside preparing the veg and potatoes anxiously looking out to find out when, if ever the bird will be cooked!
When it was ready, my son-in-law got out his latest electric carver and attacked the turkey.
All in all quite a novel experience.

We've just had bacon, scrambled egg and fried pannatone with champagne and fresh orange juice ........mmmmmmm

Just off to pack now so see you all Tuesday sometime.

Hope the wather is nicer in the the UK????? Frank! You must be joking! It's really grim here. The snow from 2 weeks ago is still around and there was another light dusting during the night. Apparently, it appears that there may be a slight thaw but that will bring a risk of flooding to many areas.

Everyone I speak to is absolutely fed up with it now...the novelty of the Christmas card picturesque scene has definitely worn off!

Will be glad when it's this time next week and we can all get back to normal.....whatever normal is!

That sounds a very interesting way to cook a turkey - must have been the heck of a big pan!

Sunburn..............at Christmas ??

I don't know who is winding us up now what with cheese and wine baguettes or crispy skin.

We had deep fried turkey for dinner which was lovely although the only problem was the men of the house said a 12lb turkey should cook in 43 minutes........just as long as they remember to turn on the gas to heat the oil!
Dinner was supposed to be at 3.00pm but once the oil had heated they realised there wasn't enough and had to buy some more to heat up.
After popping a damp turkey into the oil they soon found out why it should be completely dry!

We eventually ate at 6.00pm and it was lovely and moist, not oily or greasy as you might expect.

Went out to the sales on boxing day and we've only had a couple of inches of snow so we should not have any problems getting to Schipol on Monday.
New york is getting clobbered with snow.

Hope the weather is nicer in UK.

One of our window lights has died - blew too many fueses to be fixed - so has gone to the big Santa Light in the sky

Well it must be about 5 years old so not done too badly

Frank - why go to DC to get a cold - just visit my office - I seem to be the only one who escaped it this Christmas.

Nice to see everyone had a wonderful time yesterday - we were around minus 1 or 2 for most of the day yesterday = so being on the beach seems very strange

Robert & his shell may have been on the beach somewhere

Well one more day of rest - I have my OH going through some census records for me - keeps him amused.

One little moan - do you realise the cost of a small ~Turkey Crown £17.94 thats a fortune it was £10 for a Gammon joint - i think i should go on a drastic diet after Christmas as won't be able to afford to eat.

I hope you all had a good Christmas day,we had a very hot one 37c.
I can tell you I was glad the fay was over so glad to get off my feet.

We have the son and his family coming over today so another meal to prepare,not too bad this one cold meats and salad as it is hot again what I would not give for some of your cold weather.it all gets a bit to much after a while .

Frank nice to hear you are having a good time even though it is snowing there as well.

Talking of kitchens I have to get the Prawn cocktails ready.

I've just come in looking like Nanook from the frozen north, as I have been trying to unblock the pipe. Decided I was making too much noise for the neighbours at 7am on a Sunday morning so will tackle it a bit later.

Frank, you poor, poor thing. A 'man' cold in America.....dear oh dear. Probably you need a good rub down with a wet ferret. Get well soon.



Had a lovely lunch at our son's but OH had been a bit under the weather in the morning so we came home early. Seems okay now though.

Dear Robert,
at your age it is important to get a little exercise

so you could toddle along to your 'corner store' once a week and treat your self to a little bag of sweets with your extra 25p.

I am sitting at my computer munching on peanuts, feeling a little sore.
Got my self sunburnt at the beach yesterday.

OH and I had a wonderful meal of chicken and salad followed by strawberries pineapple and sliced banana in vanilla custard.
we finished with coffee and my homemade Shortbread.

Then went for little trek!
one and a half hours.
We went to a place called Makara Beach it's a bay surrounded by high cliffs on the northern tip of the lower North Island just 30mins drive from our place,

one side of the bay has a shoreline that you can trek around so we followed it around to the point that you could not negotiate any further and we were able see the coast line of the top of the south island of NZ.

Frank I hope your cold does not stop you from consuming Christmas goodies.
