Hope Sue is ok on the flight - no idea where she is going in the UK - could be anywhere as Emirates go into most International airports.

Nothing to report today - think we are all fed up with January - its been a really ****** month so far & if this is how 2011 is going - I wish it would vanish or clean its act up. Its been a really sad start to the year all round.

Sue, so very sorry to hear the new of your aunt's death. It's always sad when we lose someone we are close to - I send my love and prayers. I am sure you will be fine on the flight...whereabouts in the UK are you going to?

There have been some good ideas by Josie and Anne - I like the neck pillow idea...I use one every night.



Frank...I am so pleased with myself....I have downloaded IE8 on my desktop......yeah...... I actually had some time to spend upstairs on my own when I could concentrate....and hey presto.....I did it. I will ignore your comments which included the word 'slim'.




I missed Evelyn popping in......~~~~~~~ to her. An e book eh? We have looked at those but haven't been tempted as yet. Enjoy France.




Am gearing myself up to give a presentation on being the parent of an adult with Asperger's on Friday. Our four local MP's have promised to attend..........gulp.

I do know what you mean about Auntie & Mum, it would have been my mums birthday last sunday - Still feels very strange after all these years - I have a few elderly cousins left who knew her - but nearly all gone now

Thankyou so much for your support,it really means a lot to me.

The lose of my Aunt was the last bit of my Mum on earth as they were twins so as long as she was alive a bit of my mum was too if that makes any sence to you all.

I am all packed now but I am so scared to fly on my own ,I have been told I will be looked after very well by Emirates.

It is a direct flight so hopefully the time will go quick,I am taking a book by Micheal Parinson to read on his life story so that should help me pass the time away.

The funeral is Wednesday .
I will be intouch on my sisters Computer as she is with Genes as well .

Cooking the last roast for my Oh tonight so better get back to it.

I am so sorry,
words seem so inadequate at this time,.

This may help you with your trip ask your OH to help you make an itinerey showing times, places and stages for each part of your journey .

make it very simplistic, as if you where doing it for a child.
The reason for this is that it will help you focus and feel in control and lessen any anxiety and overcome the paralysis that grief can cause.

You will be fine on your own - its not scary - the first time I flew I did 10 flights in one trip & 3 connecting ones on the outbound - not even been to an airport before.

Hi Everyone

Sorry for being missing but sadly yesterday my wonderfull Aunt passed away.
It has been a trying last couple of days and I am extremley upset at the moment but I shall endover to tell you my plans .

I leave OZ friday morning 6am and fly to the Uk alas on my own for the trip ,OH not able to come due to work .
I am really scared I can tell you I have never flown on my own before,I have booked an isle seat so I can get up when I want to and they have put a help tag on my ticket so the hosteses know I am scared and they will help me .

I will still post up to Thursday night then I will be gone for two weeks,might see if I can use the sisters Computer to stay intouch with you all.

I will talk again tomorrow.

Yes Anne, I'm afraid I do enjoy a bit of SCI-FI although I must add that I'm not an out and out fan as in conventions, dressing up etc, too quiet for that.

Grew up with Dr Who, all the Gerry Anderson variants, Blakes 7, Space 1999 etc carrying on through to Stargate, RedDwarf, Star Trek and Star Wars.
One that really caught my eye was Babylon 5 and my OH actually bought me the DVD series set with the films a few years ago which I will sit down and watch one day, probably when I retire.

Must agree with you on David Tennant as the Doctor with everything and even the way he used to run about which was quite manic, adding to the general excitement all around him..............Great fun.

For me the worst was Sylvester McCoy who trivialised the whole thing almost turning it into a comedy, but that was approaching the end for Dr Who.

Isn't it amazing that in the 1960s Tomorrow's World used to talk about how much leisure time we would all have when the computers and machines were doing all the work as there would be nothing for us to do.
Shame they never foresaw the effects it would have on the unemployment statistics fifty years later and what the effects of having little money would be.

I fear Josie has been out in the heat too long and may have to chill out a bit just as we do here in the somewhat cooler UK........Dr Who???

Well Frank - I didn't know you were such a Dr Who fan -

I do remember William Hartnell & have seen the odd one repeated - but Jon Pertwee is my Dr - I grew up with him as the Dr - but I did love David Tennant as he was the Dr with a Heart & Soul

The worst Dr Who ever was Christopher Ecclestone - he was rude & brash no-one could love him or feel sorry for him let alone even like him - he was horrid - Sylvester McCoy was strange & I didn't like Colin Baker either he was weird & Tom Baker wasn't my idea of a good Dr either.

Lets move on to Lark Rise - is it me or has it gone weird since the last series & there is a ssssssssssssssssnake in it tonight eeeeeeeeeeeek.

I have also lost the plot with Hostage & Ransom - but its so wierd I need to watch next week to see what happened - isn't it pathetic.

I am beginning to think I lead a very strange life & TV seems to get stranger & stranger

Shame about the owl chicks but that's life and probably emphasises how amazing the survival instinct is when a mother would sacrifice some of her brood in order to save the rest.

Also proves how resilient the human spieces are since we would uproot and move on in such circumstances allowing future generations to learn which were the best breeding areas even when we get flooded out !!
That's what makes mankind top dog, our ability to adapt or move on which is not always inherent in the animal spieces.

Dr Zachary Smith was the villain who was never quite bad enough to destroy everyone and often had his little comedic moments but yes, could be extremely annoying but hey..................that's television :)

Can you set your phaser to stun and adjust that sonic screwdriver before telling us who was Richard Trounsen.................are you mixing Dr Who up with Doctors or even worse Neighbours or Home & Away or some other strange antipodean TV delicacy, aaarrghhh.

Did you also know that Joanna Lumley played Dr Who.

In regards to the new Family Search site, can not sign into it, does not recognize me, yet halfway down the home page there is a link to the old site and I have no problem in signing into that, so what gives?

Am enjoying a 3 day weekend as it is Wellington Anniversary Day tomorrow
NZ is divided up into 4 Large Provinces and each has an Anniversary Day.
So tomorrow Wellington will be shut while the rest of New Zealand will be open.

Unfortunately the weather has not been kind, after 2 weeks of temps 23-25c this weekend temps have dropped to 15c and it is raining with flooding in the far north,
we are experiencing the effect of 2 large Cyclones from the Pacific as well as the remains of the weather patten that has caused the flooding in OZ.

It was 29c with 80% humidity on Tuesday and that was outside,
in the dry cleaners with our steam press and dryers the temp was more like 40c
when I got home I had difficulty getting my clothes off ,they where stuck to me and I felt like I had taken a swim in my clothes.

On the front page of our Daily Newspaper there was a picture of 2 gorgeous grey fluffy MorePork [native Owls] with great big eyes
they where 2 of nine that have been rescued so far and are being hand reared, because the parents are chucking the chicks out of the nest because it is too hot with 4 chicks, so they throw 2 out.

Another of our native birds the Tui a beautiful songbird is not throwing it's chicks out instead the chicks themselves are too hot so they try to move away from their siblings which causes them to fall out of their nests and out of the trees and sadly dying.

The keepers at the Zoo are having to give animals that come from much cooler climates ice-blocks to help cool them down.

But I cannot complain,
a lady came in the other day to have her full length winter wool coat dry cleaned as she was off to Germany where she said it was -5 degrees.

On the DR WHO debate I only ever liked Richard Trounsen as the Dr

Dr Smith from 'Lost in Space' was the most annoying character, I think I have ever encountered in a TV programme. The actor who played him died about 5 or 6 years ago and I remember reading that he had appeared in over 50 films.
Frank just remember In Space it is very very c...old.

Not to be mixed up with Mr Smith who was Dr Zachary Smith of the Lost in Space TV series in the late sixties.
The robot in that was even bigger than the Jetson's Rosie and certainly wouldn't have fitted into a quart pot never mind a pint.......................

Yes the wanderer returns, please dont worry about me as I am fine, I just dont seem to be as in love with my computer as I once was. Glad to know you are all O K.
Wayne sent me another road to go down looking for my mother but I have almost exhausted it and found nothing, fingers crossed for the 1911 Scottish census.
Today in Guernsey the weather has been nice and bright but very cold, roll on spring.
In about 12 weeks I hope we will be going to France again, I look forward to that very much, it is so peaceful where we stay.
You all seem to be so busy with your lives it makes me feel lazy hearing what you are all doing and I seem to do not a lot.
My laptop is going very slow at the moment do you think I need to delete some of the things I have stored on Favourites? I dont understand the thing very much and dont really want to go to the shop for help as they charge an arm and a leg just to give advice.
I havent sorted out the E book reader that Ron gave me for Xmas, I have charged the battery and thats about it, I must download some books ready for our holidays, it will be easier to pack rather than lots of books.

i too trained as a shorthand typist - but the shorthand went a long time ago as never really used it - these days the typing isn't that hot either.

I think my mind works quicker than the fingers - lots of words go the wrong way round - esp Would & Could & have for some strange reason.

Very chiily here at the moment & looked like rain all day - but nothing happened yet

My tree is still at a standstill - loads of brickwalls - hence back on the Family search

Still interested to know if anyone is on the Geneologist system or are we all on Ancestry?

Well must away to try & do some work on mine or OH's tree - only chance I seem to get theses days - to tired in the evenings & lunchtime I try & get on here to speak to everyone

Reece lovely to hear from you and I too think doing your other Half's tree will bring you a lot of pleasure and some good memories to boot.

William Hartnell was the oringinal Dr Who ,now I hear the name it reminded me...he was my favorite.
I don't think I watch it after him as I came to OZ in 1966 and I just did not bother to look for it ,the TV here was so different to the Uk .

The Aunt is not to good but they are all keeping up to date just incase I have to make a dash for the Uk.

Hi Reece, it's good to hear you sounding so positive. I'm sure you will enjoy exploring your dear OH's tree and it could bring back lots of happy memories.


Haven't looked at the IGI for a short while Wayno.....I have more or less come to a standstill on my tree and I don't really do lookups - not as clever as our Sylvia - so haven't used it enough to comment.


Once I have done all my messaging on this site, I am ready for a good old chat......or 'blether' as Frank would possibly understand it. So I chat here and there.


Sylvia, take no notice of himself - he's just being 'picky' - quarts and pint pots indeed! Humph.
