Frank ...... our little one has neither figured out how to crawl or walk!

He's now in daycare, with 5 or 6 other kids (ranigng in age from him to kindergarten age) ..................... I reckon he's a watcher.

Once he sees them walking, he'll be off after them!

Reece, I'm afraid I don't know Macs at all, but the beachball is the timer showing that an action is being undertaken.
As for the Scarlet Pimpernel................ I would be very wary of downloading pictures etc unless you are absolutely sure of the source but I don't know how Macs get on with the nasties.

Young Sophia celebrated her first birthday last week, has seven teeth and yes she's figured out how to crawl forwards instead of backwards.

Her partner in crime Nieve still has no teeth but she's certainly "howkin" for them........... both fists in her mouth ;))

Both healthy and growing rapidly.

Hope you have a wonderful time Anne.......sounds absolutely fab. Naturally, we want to know all about it!!

Am sniffling myself today - blaming OH who has had a chesty cough this last week. He sounds like a wounded walrus when he coughs.....very dramatic indeed, whereas I, of course, am very ladylike about things and just splutter gently.


We got our census form yesterday but haven't even opened it yet! Will wait till I'm in a form filling mood I think!


Have been having a play on Ancestry today but got in a muddle so will leave it alone for a while.....oops.

Nice sunny day today not too hot for a change.

Just had a morning of shopping with my Mother in Law,she has started going out without her hearing aids in and she tends to shout in the shops ,trying to find a place to hide at times .

Reece it is lovely to see you back and you sound like life is starting to return to a bit of normality for you ....I am glad you have the wonderful memories of OZ to look back on.
I feel the same with my Auntie that I have just lost ..she was wonderful to me always ,I will always love her.
This is a great group we have here never to busy to listen to us when we are down.

Sylvia sorry to hear MJ has a cold hope he gets better soon .... any wonder with the weather we are all having all over the world.

Our boy neighbours have been quiet since we called the police in ,think they may be moving out soon,I don't think they like the police hanging around.
We all think there are drugs in the house.....we could be wrong but something is keeping them awake for longs periods of time like all night.

Frank .. take the pats on the back you deserve them not everyone can do what you do...mine certainly can't that's for sure.

O well better start to think about dinner.

When my daughter had professional photos taken of her newborn, she did get a some nice ones but I was also shown what she called the horror show and It's quite amazing the contortions that a tiny baby can make with her little face......... Winston Churchill didn't get a lookin :))

We had snow this morning then a sunny windy afternoon, followed by a wet evening........... summer's on the way !!

I have just tried to upload an old photo sent to me and now in my pictures (has something nasty arrived with it? I wonder) and got a horrible fright - a red masked face appeared on the screenwith the spinning beachball, and could I shift it? No I could not! Do not panic I told myself!

Got hold of my "Macs for Dummies" and found out how to Force Quit, did that and it has disappeared but I am afraid to look at the pictures in case it reappears. Sons are both out so I will have to be patient and wait for advice or help. Just when I thought I was beginning to be the mistress of my Mac!

Will have a read of other boards - cheer myself up.

J sounded awful tired when I tlaked to her this morning ...... and was about to go off for a nap as MJ had just gone down.

Oh dear I have always wanted to visit Quebec - didn't realise they had so much snow - Ever since i heard about General Woolf and the Heights of Abraham - I have wanted to visit - but not in that much snow.

Loved the Passport info - my friend just got one for her 6 year old - he looks so grumpy - mummy was there saying - sit up straight - don't smile - look at the camera - don't blink - don't wiggle about - don't fidget - don't open your mouth - don't grin - hold it - no wonder he looked miserable.

Saw the most grumpy baby passport the other day - real little pudding he was - he has now been nicknamed Queen Victoria - "We are not amused"
he was around 4 months when the photo was taken.

Well all quiet on the travel front at the moment - taking a break for a change - and i am working Saturday as wll this week.

Quite excited about the hotel visits - two 5 star country properties too.

It was raining here early this morning, but it has eased off. So I have made an appointment to get my hair cut early this afternoon.


I need a new passport, so OH took me to the photographers yesterday afternoon to get the new photos

I was wearing an ivory-coloured sweater, a very pale ivory.

He said "white tops are not allowed. They will only refuse it. It's because we have to use a white or very pale background".


I knew we weren't to wear glasses, not smile or grimace, mouth closed, eyes open, looking to a point about 3' above the camera, not wear head coverings ................... but not about restrictions on colour of clothes.


Came home, checked the regulations and instructions on the application form.

NO mention of any colour restrictions :((

BUT ......... glasses can now be worn so long as the eyes are completely visible

Headgear cannot be worn, unless it is of a religious nature BUT in that case the full face must be visible ........... I guess some religions will still have a problem.


I thought this was good of Passport Canada though ................ Passport Canada is, however, lenient about the expression of a newborn (mouth open or smile).



ah well, will try again another day!

Our Census form arrived yesterday - what a load of old **** I doubt if it will be of any use to our descendants at all - do you work - how do you get to work - if you don't work - when was the last time you worked etc

What happened to how many children have you had - how many sill living etc - the juicy lifestyle choices etc - all long gone - its now all economic - surprised they didn't ask what was the size of your bank balance so they could tax us some more.

Its a lovely sunny day here - my daffodils are beginning to apprear - still have loads of Snowdrops in flower - saw some fantastic displays of Crocus in Canterbury at the weekend. Spring is on the way - very little frost this morning - we may be turning a corner at last.

Ages ago I said I had won a free night in a country hotel - well i have just managed to get another one (different hotel but quite close tot he first one) and i have managed to link them together.

So we go from one to the other and its going to be a nice little break for us for our getting together anniversary - can't beleive its 19 years next month - also means its 19 years since I lost mum - only a week in between.

So we have 2 nights free accommodation in two very different country house hotels, free three course dinner (not wine) & breakfast to cheer us up next month. Really looking for ward to it.

Good morning all, (another Sunny day),

Not had breakfast yet.......

Just had to reply Anne - well your traveller missed a unique experience! Yes, it was a pity about the rain and especially as the Daintree is a DRY rainforest - P and I had a wonderful week there in 1992, every day a sunny day and not too hot. Perhaps the calls of the bush (brush) turkeys at night frightened him or the fruit bats thudding down into the nearby trees to eat their fill.


At that time the owners were thinking of selling it and Silky Oaks lodge is probably a bit bigger now but not much I would guess and with the same relaxed atmosphere and the whole area a paradise for anyone interested in natural history.


I have sent friends there from the UK and they too, have fallen in love with the Daintree area, added to which our younger son changed his mind as to his future (biochemist to ecologist) while exploring there in 1986!


Anne, don't send your holidaymakers to the "big river country" (Northern NSW) either as my brother says it is still raining there!


Wonderful memories - we went on for another week to Hinchinbrook Island and then another at Heron before making our way south visiting the family and old friends.

Sylvia, we left for home from Vancouver,(a lovely city) the only other place we had rain apart from Canberra! My b-i-l in Sydney remembers experiencing an earthquake in Vancouver in 1946! He is from Vancouver Island.

2011 Census forms arrived yesterday to be filled in on 27th. Wonder what our descendants will make of it!

Oh dear Frank. Sounds like you are having similar probs to mine with your internet advisors! One of them phoned me today because I had put a complaint in. All she could handle was the fact that it was working now. Any further conversation was beyond her.


The washing machine is going fine thanks Anne. Still a bit of a new novelty so I am washing everything in sight.


Too wet in the rain forest! Love it. Wonder if he finds the beach a bit too sandy???

Silly story - it made me laugh.

We had a client booked for their first trip to OZ - they were going to Melbourn - a couple of days looking & drinking at the vineyards - 1 day in Sydney & then on to Daintree National Park for 4 nights - then it off to indonesia.

He arrived at Daintree - stayed 1 night only & moved on to Indonesia.

Daintree National Park is in the Rain forest & you go there to experience the rain forest & all the experiences there in. Looks georgeous.

It was Too Wet - he didn't expect to get wet when doing a hike in the Rain Forest & he thought the Rainforest hotel would be on a beach somewhere & you got to view the rain forest on a walkway or something.

Hi Everyone

It is a long weekend in Wa so we went off for a few days to Albany just to get away from the heat ...it was very nice and COOL down there.

The weather has changed a bit for now ..a but cooler and we think a bit of rain for tomorrow..

Anne thank you for that I think it is my William and Mary still can't be sure quite yet.

Frank I could do with you in my house ,we have so much painting to do just waiting for the winter to come ...that will keep us busy inside for a while.

I am still unpacking at present so will drop in again tonight.

Nice to see you back Reece, don't worry about depressing us if you need a friendly ear there is always one of us around only to happy to have a chat with you...no need to be alone.
Laughter is a wonderfull pick me up isn't it.

Hey Anne,

I've been busy all weekend in the bedroom.
Plastered all the cracks and repaired some poor work which was left by our previous owner, prepared the walls and woodwork for paint and paper.
Removed the door to rehang it to open to the wall rather than into the room.
That also entailed moving the light switch from the left side of the door to the right with all the plastering of the chanelled wiring, so a good weekend's work.

Cynthia, I would just have taken the washing machine in and installed it.......... easy peasy.
I turned our bathroom around with all the plumbing having to be shifted but simply a case of reading the book and doing it!!
You soon realise how tight to make the connections so that there are no leaks............

That's what I've done for all of my DIY exploits, just read the books, understand the dangers and get on with it. Can't afford to be getting people in anyway ! :)
Except for anything involving gas, I won't touch that.

My other problem was moving from Virgin broadband to BT Total Broadband, now the router etc all arrived on time and our service was moved across but my CD would not run the Setup so although I'm on broadband, I'm not sure if it's Virgin or BT and yes I called the helpline...........aarrgghhh!

Hello sir, can I be helping you....... Yes an overseas call center for BT so eventually I was told by this man that I was still on Virgin and would have to phone them?? I thought my MAC CODE would have meant everything was moved over.
I called again and got a lady who sounded as if she came from Sri Lanka.
She assured me I was now with BT and I did not need a set up cd but could not explain why I was still getting Virgin e-mails???

Oh well, I've sent them an e-mail to see if someone else can help.

it's nice and sunny here!


and OH is painting the kitchen ........... I'm not too sure about the colour I've picked for the cabinet doors, so he has painted some of the framework, and one of the doors. AND he swears he won't moan if I don't like it!


J&M got a major fright yesterday evening

Their kitchen china cupboard fell off the wall!

They were making dinner, and for a moment thought one of the cats had been trapped under the fallen cupboard. Luckily not, she'd fled moments before it happened. They don't know where she hid, but it was several hours before they found here sitting beside a chair in the living room!

J had been standing near the cupboard just a minute before.

Everything in the cupboard was smashed ..... fortunately, only "every day" crockery, not their very expensive wedding set. And part of it hit the cook island and has dented the wood top of that.


Seems the cupboard had been attached to the wall only by one screw, near the bottom.


They have gradually been finding that the renovations done by a previous owner about 4 or 5 years ago were not of the highest quality ..... now it seems some of them were downright shoddy!

Those owners sold after 9 months ................. probably what we call "reno flippers" here.


M and his father had been concerned about the attachments of the upper cabinets when they moved in in 2009 ...... and had given this one a particularly hard pull after being able to see only one screw. It had seemed very firm, so they just thought the other screws were hidden.


She says they are not going to put in a claim on their house insurance .......... the cost of replacing their everyday crockery will be less than the deductible.



MJ slept through the whole thing!

I looked at the actual Parish Record (& Bishops Transcript) was most certainly down as Acock - I also looked at the Canterbury Marriage Licence register.
