In a bit of a rush but had to ask if anyone has heard from Ven. Robert lately? Haven't seen him for a while and hope he is okay.

Hope to get a wave from him soon......:)

Off I go again. Cx

Hope you enjoy the dance Sylvia and that all goes well with the funeral. Quite a mixture of events you have there.

Sue, you can have our winter and welcome to it. I love to watch spring coming with the daffodils and other spring flowers blooming.

Anne, will you ever stop rushing around? Mind you, do it whilst you can.....the inability to rush comes upon you quite suddenly!!

Had a lovely surprise today when we received a present from a friend. They have been poorly and asked if we would mind receiving our Christmas present at Easter. Lovely person whose condition I think, is terminal....:((

My poorly friend's husband is now in the same hospital as she is, having suffered a stroke yesterday. I'm going to vist her and possibly him if time allows, tomorrow afternoon. Sometimes it never rains but it pours!

Beauty sleep time is calling so will be on my way.

Night friends.......Cx.

Hi all
xxx

OH has somewhat of an interest in genealogy ...... but wouldn't do any of it for himself!

This "ball" is more like a dinner dance than a ball ..... people don't get quite as fancily dressed as the ball in The Phantom!

What happens is that the tables are arranged in a semicircle around the edges of the stage of the theatre that is used for the student opera productions. There are usually about 10-12 tables, each for 10 people. We are all seated, and then members of the company entertain us before and during dinner with various musical events, usually arias from operas (nothing too "deep"), but there may also be something lighter (such as West Side Story).

I can tell you that sitting literally in the middle of the whole company belting out some of the songs can be almost deafening ............... and they are not miked! It's amazing the power that most of them have!

After dinner, one of Vancouver's favourite band leaders and his ensemble take over and play for dancing. He is 93 (!), and has had his own band constantly since about 1936. It's really Big Band music ..... and we all just love it (and him).

He looks about 60-something!

I don't dance, can't, but I love just watching people ..................... but OH does. In fact, he's often pulled out on the floor by some of the girls from the company!

This time, we had filled the whole table of 10 with friends ..... we know them all. Unfortunately one couple had to pull out this morning, the husband has been fighting pneumonia for some time, and just isn't well enough to attend. They have been replaced by 2 of the guys from the company ................. the man who plays the piano for all rehearsals and one of the students. Both good fun, according to OH.

So I am really looking forward to it!

Tomorrow, our friends from the Island want to visit with us before we all go to the funeral of my ex-boss.

Sparkly Sylvia - have a fun time at the Opera ball - is it going to be one like the Phontom of the Opera has - I can still remember that scene now.

Bit of a grey day here today

Too busy to eat at the moment - but not lost any weight - shame

I love Roast Pork with all the crackling - Yummy

I think my favourite has to be Lamb with crispy skin - haven't had any for ages far too expensive for just the two of us to have a nice leg ot shoulder of lamb.

My OH hasn't got my access for the certs - he is doing further back than the certs.

Must run

Take care all

Hi Everyone

As usual the sun is beamimg down on us again ,so sick of it now and can't wait for winter to arrive.

We are very worried about Japan and all that fallout around the region, they say we are too far away but there are plenty of other countries it could do damage to.
It is heatrbreaking to watch all those people that have lost there homes and family members,it make me really look forward to the Royal weddding something nice for a change.

My OH is quite interested in the Genealogy and does not mind me buying certs and all the memberships I have with dif sites ,I sometimes feel a little bit guilty though.

Frank can you tell me why my Spellcheck just disapeared from up the top of my page ,I just don't understand...I run Windows XP Home addition.
I have looked on the internet but can't seem to find another on to downlaod ....the other one was so easy to use.

I am cooking a roast Pork tonight ,god knows why I am doing it on such a hot day and I have just finished the ironing.

Sylvia your outfit sounds lovely,I hope you have a wonderful time at the ball,I love to dance but alas the OH has two left feet

Reece I hope you too have a great night at the concert.

Back to the kitchen.

Hi all

The sun shone today, but there was a little rain early on ..... which means we have had rain every day so far this month, and have had about 70% of the normal monthly average.

I suddenly got really tired this afternoon, maybe all the painkillers I've taken over the last few days?? Anyway, I went to bed at about 2 pm and slept until after 5:30pm. Never even heard OH come home about 2:30pm, or make coffee for himself!

Have to be bright and cheery for tomorrow .............. we're going out to a dinner dance, a fund raiser for the Student Opera Program that OH helps with (sometimes even singing in the chorus, as the tame greybeard!).

It's what they used to call the Masked Ball ....... this year, it's called the Opera Ball. I have a new golden coloured sparkly top with long sleeves, and a frill round the lowish neck. It goes well with my long black taffeta skirt

take care

So glad to sit down at last....it's been so hectic round here. Nothing exciting - just everyday stuff which mounts up.

The earthquake in Japan and the aftermath are so terrible to watch. I saw a shot of a very old lady sitting in a wheelchair with a luggage label attached to her wrist....she just looked so abandoned poor thing.

Wish my OH would show a bit more interest in this hobby of ours.......he just nods and smiles in the right places at the moment. You'll have to watch out when he starts sending away for certificates Anne....lol

Sounds like MJ had a good birthday party......not sure about the blue icing though...........kids love blue drinks too for some unknown reason.

The weather has been grey and dull today but just seeing those daffodils and crocus flowers tells me that spring is nearly here. Our local council has planted bulbs along some of the main roads round here so it looks very colourful when they are all out.

Reece.....enjoy that concert! Don't forget to let us know how it went.

Better get some messaging done. Love to all. Cx

Hi all

sun is shining today!

so a little bit of flashing, eh Anne??

I really don't want to go onto extra medication ............ the Tylenol+codeine started as a very infrequent "in case you need it", and now I've been taking it at least once a day several days a week.

But back pain drags one down so much.

Got some lovely pictures from J yesterday of MJ at his birthday party, which they held last Saturday.

One of her friends had made 2 cakes ............ one large one for the "adults" and a little tiny one for MJ. Both were covered in the brightest blue icing you could imagine!

MJ liked the icing, wasn't sure what to do with the cake!!

OH's cousin's son is married to a Japanese woman. They live in England ....... took several days, but they've finally heard that her family is all safe.

take care everyone

Hope you have a fantastic time at the concert Reece

Sylvia - you take care with that review - you don't want extra medication unless you need it - once you start taking it - its hard to get off it.

Lovely spring day here - sunshine - can't see the sky from the dungeon they keep us in - can see the sun & a big brick wall - occasional cat a few assorted birds with a bit of greenery. Still tops us looking out the window all day. Did see a strange view at one of the windows the other day some chap washing up with very little if anything on - he must have reasied we coudl see him - as he opened the window & turned round & waved his bare bottom at us. gave us a giggle

Really busy here today - so mad dash again - should take lunch but don't always have the time or the chance.

Take care all

Hi all

Reece ............ lovely to hear from you. It is very strange here .................. snowdrops are over, crocuses in full flower, dafs in the garden hardly showing, forsythia buds breaking. Doesn't really tempt one into the garden!

Things have been gloomy here ................. rain, grey, wind, etc etc. But the temperatures have been quite warm ............... hence the flowers, I think!

I was at physio today, and told him that I'd been using rather a lot of my Tylenol+codeine. So he checked out my spine ......... said he couldn't find anything to suggest that I might have hurt it, but "deterioration does continue to happen, you know". So he's suggested it might be time for me to go back to the doc and ask for a review of my medication, with the intent of getting stronger painkillers.

bummer!

My physio is from New Zealand (North Island), but had close family in Christchurch. He said today that they are all fine, just some minor scrapes ............. but the house is badly damaged, not sure if it is repairable or not.

Hello Friends,

Still here!!

Because it isn't raining or snowing I've been in the garden trying to prune back a Russian Vine on the fence - it hasn't been "done" for several years and there is a lot of dead wood underneath the layers. It is just coming into leaf so tempted me to have a go! Birds are singing and daffodils flowering so it must be Spring.

No, I can scarcely bear to watch the news - the earthquake and loss of life and awful conditions in Japan are heartbreaking -I hope they don't have any more to come. P made several trips there in his working life - loved it and knew all about the tectonic plates moving. He experienced some very mild 'quakes while there on one occasion and could tell me all about the measures in place for when something bigger happened. It is very good to know that the rest of the world is ready and willing to help.

Anne, just think about those two lovely hotels you're planning to visit and leave the laptop at home.

Josie, I hope you're feeling more settled now but it must be very difficult not to worry that more 'quakes might happen.

The telephone just rang and I've had an invitation to a local concert on Saturday and I said "Yes" - friends are very kind.

Hope you are all well and look forward to hearing more of your adventures.

Love,
R

Afternoon all - its been a bit manic around here again

Don't know where the time flies to at the moment, don't seem to have time to think.

My OH has got the Ancestry bug now & seems to be on it every spare moment he has & at the moment he has loads of them.

Trouble is I get home to a long list of queries - which I try & answer if I can but trying to cook dinner and look at files or dashing back to the computer screen can be a bit hectic at times.

No wonder the food goes cold some times - I forsee a very strange holiday this year visiting local record offices.

I too wonder where everyone has gone - hope Frank hasn't stuck himself to the laminate & can't get out the bedroom.

Well only a short visit as have to rush back to work again. Such fun - not

Take care all

Hi Everyone

Well it seems one disaster after another ...what is happening to this earth of ours.

The poor people of Japan ,it is not a very big country anyway if they loose the top half of the country due to the through the neucler reactores being on alert,(sorry about the speling) I have lost my spell check for some reason.

We had no waves here so we are safe but you never know ,we live on the coast so it has got a thinking about maybe moving and building on higher ground.

Josie so nice to hear you are safe and still with us,emagine if Christchurch got a tsunami as well.

Going to have an update on the News,be back later.

Kiwibird Report 11 Mar 2011 23:56

Hi Everyone,
Am still standing and have not been washed away
the Tsunami has already reached New Zealand with waves less than 1meter
no damage.

Christchurch is still shaking with an average of 3 aftershocks a day, but power has been restored to over 95 percent of the City now and Water to about 80%
Sewage is another mater a large percentage of the really damaged suburbs have had to make do with digging 'Long Drops in their backyards and Chemical Toilets and Portaloos have now been delivered to every one in need of sanatation in these areas.

Live down here in NZ seems quite surreal at the moment, everybody is in the midst of organizing Fundraisers for the Quake and trying to get on with our daily lives and suddenly we have been thrown back into a state of shock with this Quake in Japan.

As I watched the Tsunami live on CNN it has left me numb as I saw people trying desperately to escape the Wave then being overtaken by it.

Heading to a house warming party, shortly hope it will help to take my mind of all this disaster.

Catch you all later Josie.

Hi all
xx

Terrible news about the earthquake in Japan.

There has possibly been a second unrelated earthquake, near Nagano on the opposite coast. It might be an aftershock from the first one, but it is on a different fault line. I haven't heard how strong it was, possibly about 6

I've also just heard on the radio that the coast of Japan has moved about eight FEET

There are 4 trains missing in the area affected by the tsunami ............. the rail company has lost all contact with them.

The outer coast of BC, Canada, is still under a Tsunami advisory.

Victoria and Vancouver are safe, because we are protected by Vancouver Island, but from Alaska to the northern tip of Haida Gwaii (aka Queen Charlotte Islands) south along the outer coast of Vancouver and then down to California is still at risk

Granted, the first waves seen along our coast were negligible, but later wave surges along the BC coast have been ranging from 20 cm to 1 m

The low initial waves were why the original Tsunami warning was downgraded to an advisory, which will remain in effect for several more hours .

The first waves to hit Hawaii were:- 3 metre waves hit Kauai, 1 m waves hit Honolulu washing up onto roadways but not reaching hotels, and 2 m waves in Maui. Larger waves could still arrive.

The first waves hit on the Oregon coast about 1 hour ago minutes ago.

One danger not often noted is that the underwater currents become stronger, and more erratic ............... so there is a ban (as much as can be enforced!) on small boats going out to sea.

Hello friends,

Yes, Frank thanks for that advice but I am naturally wary! Found the source last night - they came in early one morning in July 2009! Well 6.28 to be exact! Three or four for each letter of the alphabet- mainly flags of countries, but flowers etc and the dreaded masks - have started to laboriously put them into "Trash" but cannot see that they were attached to anything at all as there is nothing showing for that date. A mystery, then. They somehow attached themselves to this particular photo a few days ago - sons shake their heads and say get a PC, Mum. Nope, I'm not giving up on Mac.

Little ones are such a delight aren't they? I remember the cutting of first teeth very well but fortunately it doesn't last too long. My grandaughters are 6 and 9 now so well on the way and are great fun.

Feeling very pleased at finding some more family connections.

Hope all goes well with everyone.

Well Sylvia,

Our first daughter crawled and walked very quickly but she cross cut her teeth giving us quite a few sleepless weeks before they all settled down.

Our second daughter (Two years younger) just used her big sister to fetch everything for her and never crawled at all, merely shuffling around on her bum. Just when we were giving up on her crawling, she started toddling around holding on to the couch !!

Sophia has been in daycare since October as her mother also works in daycare (different room with older children) so she has certainly beeen influenced by lying about and seeing the slightly older children stealing her toys !!
Now she crawls after them to get her toys back.

Nieve's mum is also in childcare so she will also have plenty of interaction with other children of her age.
