Sorry you are jobless at the mo, but you will feel better after doing all those tasks ....just think, you won't have to worry about them when you do get back to work :D
That was a great experience to win but not win! Glad you had a great time.
Ooops. just noticed the time.....off to pick up the grandchildren...it's the day they come out of school early!

Hi all xxx
a beautiful day today ...... sunny, and getting warm!
I think the next 3 days might be "summer'!
Josie ..... sorry to hear that you are now unemployed ....... I'll keep my fingers crossed that it does not last long, and you find a good job.
Daughter told me on Sunday that MJ decided last week that it was time to crawl AND to "cruise" ........ described as walking using something such as the coffee tbale as support!
Having decided, he seems to be getting ahead by leaps and bounds!

Hi Everyone, Well I am back in the ranks of the unemployed, waiting for replies to a couple of job applications.
Decided I will tackle one household job that I rarely get around do do, each day to keep me motivated.
Washed my Shower Curtain yesterday, today it is going be defrost my Freezer, What an exciting life I lead :P
Though OH and I had a great night on Sunday when we went and saw a Musical Show that has been touring Australia and New Zealand. 'the Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber' 7 very talented singers sang songs from most of Andrew's shows including Evita. Phantom of the Opera and Jesus Christ Superstar.
The lead Singer was Michael Cormick who's rendition of the Phantom was spine tingling. Michael has previously had the lead role in international productions of The Phantom as well as appearing in Royal command performances of Phantom and Les Miserables.
What made the show even better was that we got to sit in the front row and I was given the tickets by a local radio station in a competion even though I had the wrong answer!
They were giving away 4 tickets to the show each morning for a week if you could answer the question based on a statistic. on the final morning they were offering the tickets as a prize, They asked this question 'On average we do this at least twice a month, though prior to 1970 nobody did this.' I rang with my answer which was to go to McDonald's. they took my number and said they would ring me in about 10mins after the News and weather, the phone duly rang and I had a brief conversation with the DJ then put on hold, when she got back to me, she was most apologetic because someone had rung in with the exact answer, while she had been talking to me earlier.
She felt awful that she had led me to believe that I had the answer, so said she had 2 tickets for the Shows final night she wanted to give me. So Thats how I lost but won tickets anyway.
By the way the correct answer was to the drive through the 'drive through' at McDonald's.
Well must go and tackle my Freezer.
Catch you all later Josie

thanks Frank - they have Fon spots right by them - I take it people who use part of your broadband can't actually get in to your own system, its just the broadband access. I assume that your own system is encrypted for security.
If it all works then i should be able to keep in touch when we are away. I won't get withdrawl symptoms this time.
We didn't win the 107 million either not even the money back this time
Nice to see you here again Josie - hows the job situation?
Well back to looking for odds n ends and making sure all my old emails are clear.
Take care all

Hi Cynthia as Anne and Frank are too busy talking about Internet connections and speeds here is the answer to your question.
CPU stands for Computer Processor Unit., It's the box part of your Desktop Computer that contains every thing that runs your Computer ie- Hard Drive Mother Board, disc drives Ram etc.

Anne,
This website from BT shows all the BT Fon hotspots which are basically small shared broadband hotspots from other BT users. When you get your broadband, you have the option to leave a BT fon (Hotspot) open or close it as you wish but leaving it open does not affect your own service. My son-in-law found a few of them when he was trying to connect at first.
The site explains it but you can use the map to search out the hotspots by clicking on the required area right down to individual streets so you can check up on your in-laws area.

Ah Frank - how sweet
Thanks for the techi stuff - we are ADSL - not cable
Same reason i am changing over from Virgin to BT - same old slow broadband system for large amount of money. I too was paying £19 a month till I realised they had reduced the price on their web page - but not told me - & i complained - so they reduced it by £2.50
BT are offering 3 months free & then £13 a month with in theory quicker broadband. They also off free wireless around the country if you are near an openzone (which hopefully the in-laws are in) which means we can use the laptop there & not be without a computer for a week when we stay.
Also BT have FREE helpdesk wheras you pay for Virgin.
Hopefully it will be a breeze - all i am worried about now is the outlook explorer POP settings for the BT email so OH can continue using the diary facility. Oh I hate mucking about with all this - Why do i do this.
Must pop back to work
Take care all

Hey Cynthia,
As my old French granny used to say to me, "soit gentil"....... be nice :P
This morning I saw a very humanitarian act. I awoke to loud quacks which is not unusual as we live in a flat next to a river and the ducks often sit up on the roof. By noon however the quacks were still going and I noticed some cats running about the garden and men shouting which turned out to be the neighbours chasing six baby ducklings and poping them in a box! The mother duck was trying to chase the cats while the neighbours were trying to get her to follow them back to the river where they would be safe. It took about twenty minutes for mother duck to settle down back with her babies as she flew off and went about in circles over our heads before landing in the river with father duck and his mother-in-law ! :S

Hi Evelyn, I wondered why I hadn't heard from you and was hoping you were okay. Hope you get sorted soon.
Sue sounds like Little Red Riding Hood with all this going off into the forest to collect wood........conjures up a lovely picture though.
Robert? Helloooo....are you alright?
Horrible wet today - not pleasant at all.
Take care all. Cx

Hi Anne,
## EDIT ##
Just noticed Susan's post and I am on ADSL (Phone connection) rather than cable so I don't know if the change over is different for cable......... Are you cable or phone line connected?
I moved to BT because after being with Virgin for eight years + I was still paying £19.00 a month for basic broadband with an ancient Virgin supplied modem which required regular updates. I also did not have wireless connectivity and never once did they contact me to offer an upgrade.............. just quite happy to take my money. At the same time I was paying BT for my phone services so it made sense to move to BT for unlimited phone along with my broadband. Instead of paying Virgin £19.00 + BT £13.00 line rental as well as phone call charges, I now pay BT £28.00 with no call charges................
##EDIT##
Did you ask Virgin to send you a MAC (Migration Authority Code) as Virgin can charge a cancellation fee of £23.50 if you have not provided one to BT who will use it to provide a (seamless) transition of your broadband services.
I've certainly not had any trouble with BT and if you had wireless running from Virgin, you should not have any problems. Virgin however are still charging me for broadband which is surprising as I changed over in February but it can run on for a month before you are free. Just waiting to see what happens this month.
The installation is very simple, just follow the instructions and there is a help section which loads from the disc on to your desktop which is quite handy. Do you have an Ethernet cable (Yellow plugs) to connect the BT hub to your ethernet socket on the back of your computer. (Marked with a triangle of three little computer screens)........ My desktop computer is very basic but came with an ethernet socket.
Phone socket to ADSL filter. ADSL modem socket (grey) which plugs into the BT Hub ADSL socket (grey) Ethernet plug (Yellow) from Ethernet computer socket plugs into BT Hub Ethernet socket (Yellow)
Just read the instructions carefully and do exactly as they say.......... no shortcuts.
And patience.
SIMPLES......... :S
It would be advisable to make notes of any wireless settings you have at present just in case they are required for your wireless connection through BT. Give me a shout if you need any help although it may be the blind leading the blind........ I'll do my best anyway.
Evelyn, Je voudrais bien aller à la Bretagne mais je préfère Nice. :D

Hi Everyone
Evelyn if it makes you feel any better my best friend has got a laptop and she is forever ringing me to fix it for her .
Now lets be honest I am not the best with computers but I am good compared to my friend ,I don't know how she manages to politely stuff it up so much .
I do fix it for her too surprisingly.
We went out to the forest again getting wood ,nice sunny day ,we now have the wood heap almost full ready for winter ,I hate going out in the heart of winter as it can be miserable with rain and wind ....not nice .
I think one more trailer load will do it ,we already have the fire going ,rain for the next four days they are telling us but I will believe it when I see it.
Boys still there but told us they are moving out on the 28th June so we have a few weeks yet ,they are not too bad at present hope it continues.
I think I would be to scared to move providers ,my Brother in Law in the Uk sells Virgin are they that bad he keeps saying he would love Virgin himself but his area does not have the cable down.
I am very happy with my provider..... we don't have a lot of problems and my computer is 5 years old now. Very lucky it is still working I suppose

Frank I did it, bit the bullet and canx my virgin and signed up with BT
How easy is it to change over as we should get it on friday - is it idiot proof - can I just plug in load the disc and be connected - I can see me being on the helpdesk phone for a while. OH will get stressed out and I will be shouting aaaaaaaaaaaaaaah why do I do this to myself.
Lovely sunny day here - so far manged to get the washing dry nicely yesterday - first weekend in ages with no overtime or family visits - feels very strange.
Will try & pop back in later.
take care all

Oh Cynthia,
Is that you getting all steamed up again ?
I'm a little teapot, Short and stout.
I somehow saw you more in polka dots. :P
My lovely clean computer is back up and running and I must have downloaded around 300 updates for Windows Vista as well as Vista SP1 and SP2 but it's nice and fast now that there's no rubbish on board.
The problem was something running my CPU at 100% for about 30 minutes everytime I logged on which meant that I couldn't run anything else............ really annoying.
WmiPrvSE.exe which normally just plods along but suddenly was taking over everything. Now I just have to figure out what it was that caused it so I'll be loading programs very carefully. :S

Hello, where is everyone? Hope you're all okay!
Have changed my picture yet again - it's quite fun actually. I was given the teapot as a present last week and, as my kitchen is black and white with red 'extras', it fitted in beautifully.
Showery here today and was cold this morning. Put the central heating on for a bit but, hopefully, it will be able to go off again soon. Really pleased because we managed to get the washing dry between showers.
Evelyn, are you sorted yet?
Sorry I haven't got anything interesting to report, but housework and shopping don't realy catch one's imagination do they? lol
Love to all. Cx

Hi Everyone
Thank You Sylvia for putting me strait,I don't know what I would do without you all ...I am getting better on the computer but I just get a bit flustered at times when I can't work something out by myself.
Frank thank you too for all the trouble you went to for me, I was eventually quite proud of myself when I realised that the picture I chose was there.
Evelyn I tried Franks solution for your favorites and it does work but only on the tools bar on the right hand side of your page if you are using windows xp that is.
I hate to be seen as helping out but I did see that.
Oh has just rolled in from work so better go and will pop in tonight.

Haven't a clue what you're on about Anne with Frank , but it sounds riveting!! lol
The choc story sounds much better though :D
All I seem to have done today is break things!
Started off by knocking a little pottery bud vase to the floor.
Moved onto knocking the soap holder off the shower thingey. It dropped into the bath and the leg fell off.......from the holder not the bath!
Nipped out to get some shopping and forgot that our recylable bin hadn't been emptied and reversed into it knocking it over. Cans and plastic everywhere ..... oh the shame of it.... I felt a complete idiot.
Bought a soap dish to use temporarily till we can get a clip on one and yes, dropped that too! Cracked it's base.
I think I will go back to bed and get up again........ :S
Did you get sorted Evelyn??
Hope everyone else is okay. Love. Cx.
