Kiwibird Report 16 Aug 2011 00:13

I walked home yesterday afternoon
in this glorious Snow shower
[sorry Cynthia and Anne]

I felt like a little kid and found myself laughing as the snow fell on me and found myself singing Jingle bells and Winter Wonderland as I walked home.

If there is such a thing as Snow Fever I along with the populations of Wellington and Auckland [which has a sub Tropic Climate and last experienced Snow in 1934] have all got it as we experienced this rare phenomenon.

While nearly all the snow has now melted where I live, in other areas of Wellington including where I used to live are still covered in snow with more snow showers due this afternoon.

A number of schools are closed and the kids are having a great time on the news last night they showed a guy ski ing along a snow covered Beach not far from were I live.

Of course the people who live in the South Island where it normally snows every winter are not enjoying this as they are dealing with Blizzards massive power outages and Road closures.

Just heard a weather update a few minutes ago and Wellington is currently in the eye of the storm and cold 4c sunny morning is going to be abruptly ended suddenly around midday when a second massive Polar Front is going to hit with Sleet ,Snow gale force winds and thunder and lightening, somehow I do not think we will reach the predicted high for today of 7c
.
All of New Zealand is being effected by this massive Polar blast direct from Antarctica until the end of the week..

Not looking forward to most of the crappy weather
but sorry once again to offend you all

I am LOVING THE SNOW :-D :-D :-D

Catch you all later Josie
:-) :-) :-D :-D ;-) ;-) :-D :-D <3

Kiwibird Report 14 Aug 2011 08:20

It's so exciting :-D

It's SNOWING

and before you all laugh and think I have gone mad.
This is only second time in my life time that I have ever experienced snow falling.

The last time was in 1992 and then it was late at night, this afternoon it started at 4pm so have enjoyed watching everything getting coated with white.
It is currently 1c and snow showers are predicted again for tomorrow afternoon.
Wellington gets snow maybe once or twice a year on some of the Mountain ranges that surround us
but for snow to fall below 100meters is very rare. Where we are now living is at sea level so it really is extremely rare.

So snow is a real novelty though to all the rest of you it must be a real nuisance.
Off to watch the snow flakes again.
Catch you later :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D ;-)Josie

Good Morning everyone from a very wet dreary Guernsey.
Ron slept well last night and in fact is still asleep now though soon I will have to wake him as some of his medication has to be taken at a specific time, seems a shame when he looks so peaceful. Our house looks like a pharmacy with so much medication and equipment, not a lot of space left for me, maybe I shall have to move into the garden shed, or should I say one of the garden sheds as like most men Ron has a thing about sheds, we also have a small greenhouse, though looking into it and its contents one would assume it to be another shed. Think what I need is a couple of strong men and a couple of skips as I cannot see anything of any use in said sheds.
While all is quiet I shall have breakfast so cheerio and bless you all my friends

Sylvia congratulations on your 44th Wedding Anniversary.
I am glad they discovered your Cancer early
and even though you will have to have a Mastectomy which is not something a woman really want's to have to go through,
You will be able to look forward to your old age.

My Boss at the Dry Cleaners had Breast Cancer 10 years ago and has had no further problems she determined to all ways have a positive outlook on life and not allow herself to be negative about things. And a recent check up a couple of months ago showed her all clear.

Dear Evelyn all my love to you and Ron may these last days together be a special time <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3

And Anne, sorry to leave you in suspense
unfortunately I did not get the Job. So it's back to the drawing board ! and trying to find another job before my current contract job comes to an end in just over a weeks time.

I know England is your home but unless you are rich I can not see how you can afford to live here,
You really should consider emigrating to New Zealand
we do not have a TV licence fee anymore and I think you would find the cost of living much cheaper.

there are only 4 million of us in a Country larger than England, so plenty of space, better weather [apart from the occasional Polar Blasts] and plenty of other ex Brits so you won' t feel alone.

Also , enjoy your rain it could be worse !!
we have got Snow to sea level, freezing sleet and gale force winds heading our way straight off the Antarctic ice shelf within the next 24 hours.
This massive Winter Storm is being called the Perfect Storm and New Zealand is gearing up for major disruptions to power and roads
and the poor people of Christchurch, many still without any heating due to losing their chimneys in the Earthquakes are facing Blanket Snow and Freezing conditions.

Many Farmers in the South Island are facing the prospect of losing livestock and new season lambs as unlike the Northern Hemisphere our farm animals stay in open paddocks all year round.

I don't plan to leave the house unless I really have to .Will be staying snug with our lovely Log Fire.

Take care everyone catch you all later Josie

Evelyn - lovely to have you back again & glad Ron is home with you - I too have had a go at trying to find Diane again - no joy - Hope Ron enjoys being home at last & is a good patient for you. (((~~~~))) <3 <3 <3

Sylvia - At least its all sorted now & you can make your plans and you know what lies ahead for the next few months - Hope you had a wonderful evening - I have to admit Find my past was very useful - but i think I have gone past the need for post 1837 now so rarely use it these days - I am sure you will get a lot of enjoyment from it while you are recouperating - its good to keep your mind active even if the body isn't feeling very active (((~~~~))) <3 <3 <3

Cynthia - keep up the good work - I am sure Diane is out there & its going to be glaringly obvious when we find her - I always have a good look at the thread to see if I can spot anything. :-D ;-) <3 <3

Susan - happy holidays - have a good rest & some fun in Bali ((~~~)) <3 <3 <3

Reece - hope you are keeping busy on your family tree - If you come across an Emma Sophia Bourn anywhere please let me know - enjoy your weekend ((~~~)) <3 <3 <3

Josie - did you get the job - don't leave us in suspence :-S :-) ;-) <3 <3

Frank - where are you? Have you forgotten us :-0 :-P :-0 <3 <3

Well its Brighton Pride today & its tipping it down outside - I have offered to work so others can go to the festival (I also need the cash)

However I could do with a holiday as well - no chance of that this year unless we get lucky on the lotto or thunderball - i keep my fingers crossed - one day our luck will change for the better when we are least expecting it.

My car passed its MOT yesterday - only had to have the break pads changed - not bad for a 14 year old car (she has far too much rust on her now - so don't know how long she will keep going) the engine is like new & will out last the body my OH thinks - I will be devestated when I have to get rid of her - she is part of the family now.

Its going to be an expensive few months - my car MOT & service (£230.00) my insurance is due at the end of September (£255 approx) TV licence in October (£145 - no idea why we still have to pay this - no decent programmes & we pay for SKY digital ) OH's - MOT, service, TAX & insurance (far too much to add here) also his new 4 year licence to teach(£400).

Then its Christmas & my car TAX is due - its never ending

Any way back to work - the rain is pouring down outside - its going to be very soggy & muddy in the park - i do feel sorry for the carnival procession - they have all work hard to do the floats & lots of people enjoy it - they are charging for it this year so a lot of people are going to hold their own party on the beach with BBQ's - (not in this weather if it keeps raining like it is at the moment) Its been raining hard for at least 3 hours now.

Take care all - will pop in again tomorrow :-) ;-) :-P <3 <3 <3

Hi all

Evelyn ...... lovely to see you. Please take of yourself as well as of Ron. <3 <3 <3

Thank you all for your wishes on our anniversary. We're going out for dinner this evening. My anniversary present will be a subscription to findmypast. I've only had free trials before. So will see whether I really do find it of use.

Update

Official diagnosis .............. Invasive Lobular Carcinoma

Treatment ............ Mastectomy on September 20, with examination of the Sentinel lymph node to make sure no cancer cells have escaped into the lymph system.

No further treatment unless cancer cells are found in the Sentinel node.

I will be in hospital overnight, and then I believe a nurse comes to see me at home

It was found almost by accident .............. the surgeon was very pleased that the mammogram clinic had taken the option of trying to determine the calcifications they had spotted on the May mammogram. They could have told me to come back in 6 months for a further check-up. Instead they did more mammograms and the biopsy, still thinking they were benign but with uncertainty.

It was not until the radiologist did the detailed examination of the core biopsy that they found the carcinoma cells

So ................... very early, and so small that they have been unable to give a size determination.

She asked what I would like to consider as treatment.

I said, "My druthers would be a mastectomy, and I've thought that for years, since 1995"

Her response? "Good choice. It's certainly small enough for a lumpectomy to be perfectly acceptable, but you would always be worrying. It's the simple solution to the problem."

so, I hae to have some pre-op blood tests, chest x-ray done before Sept 20th, but otherwise, we will live our life normally for the next few weeks.

love, and many thanks for all your support

Anne, I too think that community work is a good way of dealing with the offenders.....probably parenting classes for the parents too!

Lovely to see you again Reece and yes, I think you would have been having the same type of conversation as many of us have been having over the last few days. I wonder how many of us have been talking to the tv ? :-D

I have had a pleasant day today. Out to lunch and spent an hour or so working on Evelyn's Godmother's family just to see if there is a link. As per usual, no joy as yet but an interesting family nevertheless.

Evelyn........you being brave and doing well.........keep your chin up and continue to care for Ron with love. You know we are thinking of you.

Is it about now that Frank is in the US??

Lots of love. Cx.

He has no more chemo booked until 23rd August so I will try and build him up ready for that.
Thank you so much for all your good wishes believe me I really appreciate it, nice to know you care.

Hello everyone,

Just read your news, Sylvia - I am sorry to hear this and I send you all love and best wishes, and another lot of best wishes for your 44th wedding anniversary.

All is quiet and serene in this leafy part of the world - my dear OH used to quote an ancient Chinese saying "May you live in interesting times" and I can only imagine the conversations we might have had this week.

Love to everyone.

Hi all
xx

Thank you everyone

Robert ..... OH says I'm still good at nagging, even though I'm lop sided! Best wishes to your wife. Glad to hear she is doing well.

Sue ..... sorry to hear that your sis-i-l is playing it up.

I'm open about it, just as I was the first time, possibly more open than some people would like. But I don't play on it, or use it to get sympathy.

Anyway, the current news is:-

A phone call at about 9:30 am this morning from the GP's office to say an appointment has been set up to see the surgeon on September 6 at 8:00 am

I just don't do early appointments ................ but accepted this one without any complaints! :-D

A phone call early this afternoon, from the surgeon's office. They'd had a cancellation and would I like to come in at 9:00 am TOMORROW morning. That's Friday morning!

Of course I said yes.

If she follows the routine she had 16 yars ago .......... she'll assess me, examine me, then decide when to do the operation, and tell her receptionist to schedule me into the operating room time

so I should know by lunchtime tomorrow (Friday) when the operation will be.

Of course, tomorrow is 12th August, the Glorious 12th, opening of the Grouse Shooting season ..................................

and our 44th wedding anniversary :-D

Sylvia - you are a very brave lady - lots of hugs (((((((~~)))))))) on the way
I am so very sorry to hear your news - <3 <3
At least you are going to have enough money to live on well into your very old age

Susan - send us a stick of rock from Bali - i was wondering how your Sinl was.

Very peaceful night here in the South - the news keep on about it & i agree with Cynthia - some of the mothers need to be locked up - their attitude is awful.

Robert - pass my regards to your wife - another brave lady

We were discussing it at work - we think all the guilty one should be sentenced to a min of 1 year in a residential home for the handicapped or infirm & made to work with the residence for 365 days & only allowed time off to sleep & eat. this way they woudl help the community & may learn a skill as well. It might make them better people if they see who the other half half to live.

Well thats me off on the soap box again.

Really must stop doing this - it winds me up. :-P

Well off to lunch now - taking my hour today

Take care all <3 <3 ;-) <3 <3

You certainly got around Anne.......sounds like you have had a great time during your travels. You never know, a Jewish relation may pop up when you least expect it :-D

Bali looms ever closer Sue....hope you enjoyed your roast!

The riots seem to have quietened down thank goodness. Much is being said about the responsibility of parents......too late it seems.

What really aggravates me, is not just the violence and the vandalism but the attitude of those involved. It's absolutely atrocious - almost as though what they were doing was right - some parents are even sticking up for them. I tend to mutter at the tv....rather a lot!

So many people quote their human rights but forget that with rights come responsibilties.

Had one of those days today where I have been trying to phone doctor's and electricians etc. and everyone is either engaged or on their answerphones........arrrrggghhh.

I did the precis on Evelyn's thread to help bring things together a bit. Several more interesting thoughts have been added and need to be pursued. We will keep at it Evelyn, don't you worry. <3

Hi Everyone

Sylvia You are taking the news very well I must say I don't know I would be that brave.
We are all here for you if you need an ear or two.
My Sister In Law could take a leaf out of your book ,she has not been too good with everything that went on with her.
She was good to start with but now she is using it to get sympathy from everyone and she is fully well now .
I wish you well .

Anne you do sound well traveled,I don't know how you found the time ...you are always working.
Was it quiet in your neck of the wood last night ,we have it all on our news,I like the way the people came out to clean up the streets .

It s pity you can't have a clean up of the whole country and get it back in British hands again.
We left in 1966 for OZ with our parents ... I am afraid to say my father was and is still very racist ,he could see the writing on the wall way back then but OZ is heading in the same direction ...I hope the powers that be are watching the UK at the moment .

Cooking a roast tonight we might not get one in Bali.

Drop in later.
Love to you all ......Special hug for Sylvia

Suex <3 :-)
