Dipping into my tree again.

Found a person who clearly does not understand the meaning of death.

On a family tree Amelia Nicholls was shown as born August 1830, died September 1830 This information, together with her parent,s was correct.

The tree owner then showed not one, but two, marriages with multiple children.

PS My "Killer Queen" cat has finally got the message. she presented me with 2 dead voles (they eat bulbs underground). A distinct improvement on live shrews (good for the garden)

Further, further info on Eliza Lucock.

I should not find it surprising noting what you and Sylvia have said, but a number of people have Henry Nicholls Stepfather) as her father.

Eliza was born in 1830 when Henry was married to his first wife, living nowhere close and her mother (also Eliza Lucock) was married to William Lucock.


Anne - as steak quality can very considerably, stick to what you know. It is after all joyous occasions you are celebrating.

Cant believe he is 7 seems only yesterday you were talking about his arrival.

We go to our Steak house for our birthday & anniversary - its not cheap but lovely Steak & we know we can trust them. So dont mind spending the money. My friends tried to get me to go somewhere else. Its more expensive and we dont like the menu (apart from the steak) or the look of the place - they dont understand why we wont try somewhere different.

We cant afford to eat out so when we do its a treat and we want to enjoy ourselves and spending that sort of money somewhere we may not like. We have starter mains and dessert at our favorite place for the same amount of money.

And I have now worked out what is happening.

Henry Nicholls married for the second time Eliza Lucock. She had a daughter Eliza born in 1831.

Henry's stepdaughter had a daughter in 1850 - this is the child shown as a grandaughter to Henry on the 1851 Census.

Simple really if you pay attention to the facts

Further to my last post

Elizabeth born in 1850 is now with her mother Eliza and father Henry Nicholls, boarding with Henry's brother Charles. Now she is referred to as Elizabeth L Nicholls

Confusing?

I found a curiosity when 'dabbling' with my tree.

My 2 x Gt Grandfather Peter's brother. Henry Nicholls, married twice.

He married Eliza Lucock in Woodbridge, Suffolk in 1840 In 1850 they had a daughter, Elizabeth.

On the 1851 Census she is referred to as Elizabeth Lucock NOT Nicholls.

Can you think why this might be.

Ancestry trees can be wild and wonderful.

I found my great aunt, b. 1875 Lancashire, married Nov 13 1902 Lancashire, sailed from Liverpool Nov 23 1902, then living in Newark, NJ for the rest of her life, had been acquired by someone as one of the parents of children born around 1830-1840

Her married name and her husband's name was the same as the people he wanted, who had also been born and married in Lancashire and then emigrated to Newark, NJ .................... but almost 100 years earlier!!!

I was lucky ............. he removed my aunt and uncle from his tree after I contacted him and pointed out the discrepancy.


I'm still waiting to discover if anyone has me on their tree as the daughter of my brother who was "married" to my mother despite him being only 10 and her 35 by a second cousin who made a stupid mistake and then refused point blank to reply to me. He even set up a One Name Study AND made a CD to circulate to members of the family who attended a "reunion" that he organised ................ but without notifying any of my side of the family!



We are really enjoying our time with my daughter and grandson ................ he's 7 now, Tabitha, and getting to the interesting stage!

They and OH have gone to the Aquarium today ........... we've taken him in previous years while daughter went to see friends and he really wanted to go back. I did a little bit too much over the weekend plus we've had a weather change, so I stayed home.

We went to a local steak house on Saturday for our anniversary dinner with them ........... it isn't cheap, but the steaks and prime ribs are excellent. Little one loves steak, they had a kids menu with a 170 gm (ca 6½ oz) sirloin steak, fries, drink, and ice cream for $16 (ca £7 or 8), and he ate it all! I had a 7 oz filet mignon which was only a little bit bigger than his sirloin!

They go back home tomorrow. We'll see them again at Christmas, when we will once again go over there.

Not aware my 3 x Gt Grandmother was a pirate.

I found something surprising on a Census. Unfortunately did not record the person as not on my direct line. The head of a household aged 34 was described as a PENSIONER. Cannot even start to think what this could mean.

There are certainly some weird things on Ancestry trees - i tend to take with a pinch of salt - sometimes it can point you in the right direction for locating the family.

I too have found a few strange things - once found my grandfather married to some strange person with another family in a nearby town. My grandfather didn't have a common name either - I think the person with the tree just latched on to the first person they found.
I tried to contact them but got told very quickly and not politely to go away - they were not going to change it .

Managed to do some refreshing of my tree whilst watching the World athletics.

Decided to pursue the Bonney line and may have got back to my 9 x Gt Grandfather Robert Andrews.

I have been making use of other Family trees on Ancestry. These can contain surprises, both positive and negative.

I am amazed when people have trees where a child is born to parents under 10, where parents marry aged below 10, but I found on tree that is astonishing.

Robert Andrews is shown born 1590.

First marriage 1584 !!! in Norwich, England
Second marriage 1591 !! in Ipswich, Massachusetts
Third marriage 596 in Massachusetts
Fourth marriage 1608 Dorset, England
Fifth marriage 1611 Suffolk England
Sixth Marriage 1615 Norfolk England
Seventh marriage 1616 Ipswich Massachusetts

All marriages had Elizabeth Franklin as the spouse

Eight marriage 1619 Gloucestershire Spouse Sarah Connant

Ninth marriage 1620 England
Tenth marriage 1620 Massachusetts
Spouse Elizabeth Franklin

I have chosen not to contact the owner of this tree.

I have contacted another tree owner as he appears to have Elizabeth Franklin as both the mother and wife of Robert Andrews. The date of birth for Elizabeth varies from 1560 to 1592 across the many trees. Awaiting with interest the reply..

I rather hope that Robert Andrews who emigrated to Massachusetts in 1835, is my ancestor. I have now read a lot about the Andrews family and they were well known in England and in Suffolk.

Not sure how I could set about validating my tree. The link to a robert Andres is though a son John Andrews who married a Grace Boulton in 1835. Their daughter married Christopher Bonney in 1694 in Sudbury, Suffolk, England - she was 34, he was 20.

I think I need to go back to the first Bonney in my tree, Ann Bonney who married my 3 x Gt grandfather.and check everything going back in time.

Just have to find the time !!

Sylvia - so envious - would love to see the fall colour on the east coast. Always wanted to do New England in the Fall.

Loved Colorado in the fall - such an amazing place - we rarely have the fall colour over here now. From my history days at school - always wanted to see Quebec and the Heights of Abraham - the General Wolfe story always stayed in my mind. Funny enough Squerry's court played a role in General Wolfe's story as well as my OH's ancestors.

Always a bit spooky when you get that sort of coincidence especially as I didn't know him in my school years.

Actually we will be here, though I might not be online .......... our daughter and grandson are coming out in 2 weeks to be with us for THE day.

We decided to delay our trip by a couple of months ............ it'll be quieter, and hopefully there will be lots of fall colour. Although we just might get the beginnings of winter!

When checking for baptisms I checked for all England.

Emmeline was born in Clerkenwell, Middx and Arthur Senior was born in Sudbury, Suffolk.

A mystery why a first born was not christened. Both Arthur and his wife were from families who had their children christened/baptised.

First .......... when were Arthur and Emmeline married? Is there any chance that Arthur could have been born before their marriage, and thus to be found under a different surname?


Second .......... were both Arthur and Emmeline from London? Is there any chance that Arthur was taken to "home" church to be baptised???
