Really sorry to hear that Arthur. I think going to the MP is a good idea - in fact, anyone you can think of at all. Good luck and keep cheerful.

When you said you hadn't found a murderer in your family yet, well I have. Not a blood relative but his sister married into my maternal family. It seems as though this chap had arranged to 'meet' a woman in a barn and, when she did not turn up, he vented his anger on a 6 year old boy - may have been her son actually - and beat him to death with an iron bar. . He was hanged in 1876. Shudders.......not nice. :-(

Hasn't it put some rain down the last few days? Those poor people affected by it all - I would hate to be flooded out of my house - all that clearing up. yuk.

Anne, the records I love rootling through are on Medway City Ark but the record I found my grandfather's 2nd marriage on was on the Kent opc.

If I am looking for parish records, I tend to google the name of the parish church of wherever and see where it leads me. Much easier than all that census work.... ;-)

My children and grandchildren have those all-singing, all-dancing phones and use them no problem..... :-S The one I am waiting for is the one that cooks!!! :-D :-D

Going off for a browse around.

Hope all is well with my friends on here......

Love....Cx <3 <3

Thanks Cynthia - will give a go next time

You dont get much choice when your phone is ancient - we always wait our two years and then go for the upgrade swap - couldn't afford to buy one.

OH wanted just a phone till i reminded him how useful a photo phone would be if he needed it for insurance - if he had had one when a pushbike side swiped him he wouldn't have had so much problem with insurance. It worked I dragged him in to the 21st century & I got one free as well.

Now we have semi all singing dancing phones - not the latest ones - but at least mobile internet now.

Rain rain rain - thats all we have had for a few days -

I wish there was a mobile that cleaned your house.

Well off to do the washing & ironing

Take care all

I have 2 death certificates that I ordered in error.

I would be happy to send them to anyone researching the people.

What is the best way of ensuring maximum coverage.?

Hi Everyone

Rain and more rain ...very cold too so I am inside this week no bike riding for me.

Arthur sorry to hear about your prob's with the council,I am still fighting our water board over chlorinating our wonderful chemical free water.

Sent off another letter today to them hoping we can change there minds and go back to the UV way of keeping the water germ free.
At least the rain has come in handy we are collecting it for drinking water.

Can you all tell me wherever you come from ( what countries ) what your countries use ie; for clearing your water suppies I would be interested to know .
I have researched in canada and they use UV in some states also some US states.

OH just walked so better talk to him for a while and get dinner statred will be back later.

Arthur - you could put them on Genealogy chat and offer them out to anyone - just keep it nudged up for a bit - the Who do you think you are website aslso has a place for unwanted certs.

Having a nice few days relaxing for a change. waiting for a call from our bank manager - said it would be 30 mins that was over 3 hours ago - dont know if thats good or bad thing. At least we still have the roof over our heads (at the moment)

Going to try & do a bit of family tree work this afternoon, while waiting for the call. I just hate waiting around for people.

Take care all <3 <3 <3 <3

Cynthia

Cynthia Report 27 Jun 2012 17:15

Arthur, there are a couple of websites which take details of unwanted certificates......I know one is called bmdshare but I can't remember what the other one is called... :-S

To avoid getting the wrong certs, I tend not to give the registration numbers but simply the year and names - you get a refund if it's wrong.

You can also try looking in Search Trees to see if anyone on here has them in their trees.

I had an aternoon out by myself yesterday! I was told that I needed to make sure that I have some 'me' time so, because I didn't have the grandchildren, I took myself off to Dunelm Mill for a couple of hours. Didn't spend much, but it was nice to wander round on my own for a bit :-D

Have just been down to church to see what's going on! We have a flower festival this weekend and it's beginning to look amazing! Complete chaos at the moment but, come tomorrow it will look fantastic. The theme is the Olympics........and some people are just so clever in what they can think of. I can't arrange daffodils in a milk bottle. :-(

Smells as though tea is nearly ready, so will go before I smell burning. Love to all. Cx.... <3

Just returned from a trip to Hastings.

Its been very humid here loads of sun - it was lovely just walking along the seafront. Loads of people just sitting around outside the pubs and the little eating establishments. Hardly anything open on the prom which was a shame as there were loads of people around.

We went for a trip on the East lift up to the country park - you could see where the Jubilee beacon had been we just enjoyed ourselves wandering around to the firehills - its amazing up there in the autumn - all the foilage changes colour and as the sun sets it looks likes the hills are on fire. If its been warm you have to watch out for adders though if you wander too far into the bushes.

Didn't realise you could walk across from Hastings seafront - only ever been up there by car. My great aunt use to live in Hastings we went down there every year if we could. They use to have a pub on the hill called first in last out & auntie May had a house that over looked the cricket ground. It was lovely watching the matches in the summer.

We also stopped off in Eastbourne - the flowers on the seafront look lovely this time of year. It just made a nice change to be out and about instead of stuck in an offic all day.

Well off to get a drink and check my emails etc.

Take care all <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3

Hi Sue

and everyone.

Arthur ........... www.bmdshare.com is a site that was set up for exchanging certificates.

Not sure how effective it is.

I see that you have had some horrendous storms in England!

I spent a lot of time on the phone this morning (Thursday) ............ booking the trains for our trip back east at Christmas-time. That's 3 trains each way, total of 6 days travel.

We had coupons that gave us 50% off 2 of the 3 sections ............. and our travel agent could not therefore do the booking for us.

I got it all done, and so we are set.

We do have to spend a night in Montreal on the way over, as there have been some cut-backs in train service. There were 6 trains a week from Montreal to the Maritimes, now there are only 3. It means that we arrive over there 1 day later than originally planned.

But I managed to get a really good price on a room in one of the best hotels in Montreal ....................... and it is 2 floors above the train station (which is underground). So we won't even have to put our noses out the doors if the weather is bitterly cold

The last time we had to stay over in Montreal, it was -30 to -32C ....... in the daytime! I didn't ask what the night time low was!

The hotel is the Fairmont Queen Elizabeth, and I've got a room for 2, queen bed, room rate $135 (or ca £70) ....... which is about half the normal rate. That's what you get for reserving early!

very pleased with myself

Meanwhile, OH was cleaning the carpets with the Hoover steam cleaner we bought a few weeks ago.

He did 2 rooms yesterday, and they look really good. Mind you, the carpet wasn't really dirty in either of them. Just needed brightening up.

Then he moved on to do our bedroom ....... and suddenly announced that the machine was not working properly

It seems that a hose was not hooked up properly, and so it was not sucking water into the dirty water tank ......................... yet, the other carpets had not been very wet, and both had dried in 4 or 5 hours.

He thinks he has now solved the problem ........... and will tackle a really dirty carpet tomorrow (Friday). Dirty because of feet marks where someone sits every evening (and it is not me )

Take care everyone

South East Water use Chlorine

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 30 Jun 2012 06:42

All Metro Vancouver's water comes from 3 wilderness reservoirs which capture water from snow melt and rain.

The only protection of the reservoirs is by careful control of access by humans, who have to register and pack out all their waste.

There is no control of wild animals.

Chlorine is introduced to all tap water in Metro Vancouver, regardless of whether it comes from the Capilano or Coquitlam reservoirs, or from the Seymour Filtration Plant. The purpose of adding chlorine to the tap water is to disinfect it.

The Seymour Filtration Plant uses a filtration process called coagulation and flocculation to remove sediment from the incoming source water. Water then goes through a massive UV (ultra violet) treatment ‘gallery’. Finally, chlorine is added before sending the finished water into the distribution network.

Our water in Vancouver is very faintly blue because of the filtering

One of the reservoirs (Capilano) is commonly closed and not used to provide water to the system in the winter and much of the spring, because there are frequent land slips, and it is impossible to keep the water clean.

The advice that we get if we do not like the taste of chlorine is to keep a jug of water in the fridge, and use that for drinking, as the chlorine dissipates very quickly.

You might be interested in this statement from the Vancouver water people ...............

"Chlorine is safe at the levels used for water treatment. Chlorine is the most widely used disinfectant in North America because of its ability to form residuals and its effectiveness against a wide range of disease causing microorganisms. The benefits of chlorination far outweigh the known risk of bacteria in the water. However, water consumers with specific concerns about chlorine should contact their doctors."

Hello everyone :-D

I had a quick google about our drinking water supplies and there is a whole lot of information to be found at

http://dwi.defra.gov.uk/index.htm

I think that will help you from the British point of view Sue.

Can't remember ever going to Hastings it sounds like a lovely place - glad you had a good time Anne.

Sounds as though Sylvia has been keeping her OH busy with all that carpet cleaning. I have a domestic carpet cleaner which, although it's quite good, doesn't have the power of the industrial ones you can hire. It's still cringe-worthy when you see how dirty the water is when you come to empty the tank :-(

Did you decide what to do with your spare certs Arthur?

Yesterday, my OH and I celebrated 44 years of marriage....my avatar is a picture taken at our reception....... <3 <3

Must go and get organised as I am taking my friend out to see the flower festival at our church and, as there are also two weddings booked for today, it's likely to be chaos..... :-D

Love to all......Cx

Tabitha Report 30 Jun 2012 17:03

ah Robert - good to see you - thought you would pop in when there was a breath of scandal.

I can't comment about Cynthia - but i can vouch for me.

Rest assured Robert I only have the 1 husband now - Previous one did a vanishing act in 1988 (I left him in 1986) for reasons i am not going in to here - but it was a good decision - we did have some good times - was divorced in 1990 - so its all legal.

Hope Mrs Robert is better now & enjoying life.

Very strange weather here today - blue sky - showers - very grey threatening sky - loads of gusty wind - blue sky sunshine - grey clouds - now windy with grey clouds & sunshine

Take care all <3 <3 <3 <3 <3
