This may have been put on before but I have only just found it. If you go on Family Search, go into search records, then into Record search pilot & at the bottom go into browse our record collections. Go into Europe, scroll down & all Norfolk parish records are online from 1538-1900. They are not transcribed & can be a bit labourious to search through but I have spent hours at Norfolk Record Office doing exactly that, now I can access them at home. Hope this will help others who are not able to get to Norfolk.

Thanks for the excellent tip. I must say that the images are much clearer than the microfilms at the Society of Genealogists.

Another tip - a lot of Norfolk parish records have been transcribed on www.freereg.org.uk, so always look on there first. If you find something on there, you can then go straight to the relevant register on the FamilySearch pilot site to get the original image. Much quicker than scrolling though all the registers one by one on FamilySearch!

You can also use FreeReg to eliminate registers from your search on FamilySearch. A list of Norfolk parishes with the date ranges that have been transcribed is at www.freereg.org.uk/parishes/nfk/frontpage.shtml. If the person you're looking for does not show up on a FreeReg search, you then don't need to search these registers on the FamilySearch site (or at least, you can give them lower priority).

Mmmm, very informative.

Turns out that the person I thought was the father of my 2x gt grandmother couldn't possibly have been the right one.

Checked the parish registers and the vicar notes that her 'father' was abroad (euphemism for transported it would seem!) for the past four years - he left in 1833 and she was born in 1836 and baptised in 1837. Always wondered where the Hubbard came from in her name - possibly her biological father's surname?

Worth having a look here, there are many records of places in Norfolk where pre 1841 census records have survived, but note many only give a list of names in a particular vilage etc. but some give abit more info
I found some of mine, and was able to confim some of them

Can I add to Hialary's great suggestion a tip when searching. Before diving into the records, go to index section first. The person I was looking for was actually born a year earlier than we thought. Particularly useful when the surname doesn't match. I would never have found him just by skimming the year's records.

ooooh - I'd already rummaged through these records for Toft Monks and Lingwood and no sign.

Now, I can't find Haddiscoe.

Curious that there are no parish records for BACTON. Can anyone enlighten me as to why? I have a record of a relative born (base again!) in Norfolk, Bacton, and listed on FreeBMD under Bacton parish registry.

Not sure why Bacton is not there but keep an eye on it as it may be added, there is an IGI batch no. for Bacton on Family Search with lots of records on.

GRRRRR, I need to save a copy from one of the pages for reference, and it is showing error, cannot connect. Has anyone else saved a copy of the images? I tried before, but it wouldn't save. Was going to go in again and see what I could do to save the image.

Not tried to save any images but I have wrote the page nos. etc down for future reference so I don't have to search through again.
