Looking at birth registrations in Shoreditch, and comparing to the deaths, there are the following (that are not immediately followed by a death registration):
George Sep qtr 1892 George Jun qtr 1894
Blanch Dec qtr 1894 Ada Dec qtr 1895
George Dec qtr 1898 ( both of these are listed in the index, as George Dec qtr 1898 ( Shoreditch 1c, pages 29 and 92
Lily Mar qtr 1900
BUT these need not be the same family, and Ada should be born Purley.
If Ada and Lil* in Hornchurch in 1911 are the right family and Ada was born in Purley, the family would need to have moved to Shoreditch some time between the 1890s and 1911.

That's a good find Ivy. Lily is actually Lilian, she is also stated as born Shoreditch.
Wonder if they have any records from back then.

Following Sandra's postings that say - Ada and Lily went to Sheffield - the children went into service at a youngish age - Ada and Lily should have been minors together in 1911 - believe the family were in London when young - did a search for institutions but no luck
How about: Ada age 13 Lily age 11 both at the Hornchurch cottage homes in Romford in Essex in 1911
The entry for Ada states born Shoreditch, but the home is run in connection with the Shoreditch workhouse, so I wonder whether someone assumed that she was born there.
I think often girls at such homes would have been placed into service on leaving there.
(Edited re the 2 posts below:
oops, yes, like Meg, I've been searching Lily as Lil* to pick up Lilian, Lillian, Lily and Lilly
that site is brilliant - I see on the "records" page that there are baptism records available at the London Met archives of the baptisms of the children at the homes, so it may be possible to identify one or both parents of these two girls?

I've been following & searching from the start of the thread and I did wonder if Lily & Ada were one and the same. I'm sure Sandra will put us right if she's sure!
One niggling doubt though is why the 2 sisters didn't know who their father was - that doesn't quite add up as Blanche & William were married prior to having their children....

So, having been jogged back to life, how about this for a scenario, and we will have to wait for Sandra to get back from her hols and tell us it is rubbish.
Ada Webb is Lilian Ada Webb. There is no separate Lilian/Lily and Ada, they are one and the same person. I know you said you had met them both, but maybe it was a long time ago, and she called herself Lily on one occasion and Ada on another, and you thought they were two different people. The next question is "did you ever meet them both together?". Think very carefully on this. I feel like the Public Prosecutor!!!!
Did you, or did you not, meet Lily at the same time as you met Ada? If you met them separately, did they look very different bearing in mind that if you saw them 10 years apart they/she might look very different from 10 years earlier.
Sandra, you said the children of the three sisters were in touch with one another, but you have since told us that Lily never married. So that implies that she had children out of wedlock. Can you tell us who those children were? Are you sure on that?
Yes, there is a death of Lily Webb in Sheffield that fits with her birth year, but there are other Lily Webbs born in Sheffield in the same year.
Have you got the death cert of Lily Webb? It seems daft, but it might be worth it to see who registered the death and how she is described. She died Sheffield 1992, Registration district: Sheffield Inferred County: Yorkshire Volume: 3 Page: 1449
I am coming to the conclusion that there were not three sisters, but only two. Their father was not Fred but William.
This could just be William's death, middle name Frederick?
England & Wales, Death Index: 1916-2005 about William F Webb Name: William F Webb Death Registration Month/Year: 1934 Age at death (estimated): 65 Registration district: Poplar Inferred County: London Volume: 1c Page: 305

Eeh, Julie, it does no harm to revist previous posts. We might have missed something. It is Ada who is missing from that family in 1901.
Hang on a mo. You say she is Lilian Ada? How interesting. I take Lilian and Lily to be one and the same name. Have we investigated that idea that Lilian might be Ada? I know we have a Lilian and an Ada appearing in Sheffield. Are they sisters? Gee, I can't remember. I am going to have to read through the thread again and get a new notepad out! I can't even remember my own research now.
Did I dismiss that family you have found in 1901? I'm going to go back and double check.

Blanche Hilda Webb was the daughter of William and Blanche Kathleen Webb:
Name: Blanche Hilda Webb Record Type: Baptism Date: 19 Feb 1893 Father's Name: William Webb Mother's Name: Blanche Kathleen Webb Parish: St Saviour, Battersea Borough: Wandsworth
They are the 1901 family that Patricia posted on pg 2:
1901 England Census about Blanche Webb Name: Blanche Webb Age: 8 Estimated birth year: abt 1893 Relation: Daughter Father's Name: William Mother's Name: Blanche Gender: Female Where born: Battersea, London, England Civil parish: Battersea Ecclesiastical parish: St Phillip County/Island: London Country: England Street Address:
Occupation:
Condition as to marriage:
Education:
Employment status: View image Registration district: Wandsworth Sub-registration district: East Battersea ED, institution, or vessel: 42 Neighbors: View others on page Household schedule number: 263 Household Members: Name Age William Webb 33 Blanche Webb 29 Blanche Webb 8 William Webb 5 Lilian Webb 1
Daughter Lilian is actually Lilian Ada:
Name: Lilian Ada Webb Record Type: Baptism Date: 13 Aug 1899 Father's Name: William Webb Mother's Name: Blanche Kathleen Webb Parish: All Saints, Battersea Borough: Wandsworth County: Middlesex
Could son William be William George or George William? That would just leave Lily to be born. Is it likely there would be a Lilian and a Lily in the same family?
Parents marriage:
Marriages Mar 1892 (>99%)
Ward Blanche Kathleen Wandsworth 1d 682 WEBB William Wandsworth 1d 682
Was wondering if the parents died early on but can't find a likely death for Blanche the mother.
Julie
EDIT Sorry just realised as per Margaret's post on pg 4 that family are still together in 1911 & no Lily with them. At least it means you won't need to buy Blanche Hilda's birth certificate!

thanks for that I am so diappointed, found in 1868 a Madeline Blanche Webb, thought could have been her mother so back to the grind again. So some other child born in Islington has to be there somewhere, you saved me £8.50
Having a break from this for a few days taking one grandaughter visiting another grandaughter, will try another tack next week if I have any energy left.
Regards Sandra

update, went to library the other day, no joy with Ada cannot find the house she was living in at the time she would have been 30, even the address on the marriage certificate was not theirs, they used a relatives house to be married in a lovely church, times have not changed.
Been today to archives on fiche reader and found Blanch (No e on the end) Madeline Webb born Islington second quarter 1893. Cannot see her on the 1901 census, can anyone else please? Islington is the place on the 1911 census that Blanche who was in service says she was born. All the best to you all Sandra

Hi Choccy, thank you for all this info. I have written it all down and looked at it, cannot see anything that could link us to this elusive family, I somhow feel that the names of Blanche, George, Ada and Lily must be family names if not all but some of them.
It felt like deja vu when I looked on Family Search for the 1881 census for the John and Jane Webb family could not find them. I know their census sometimes does not include them all but could not find any until I looked for Edgar, I found a 13 year old with what looks like his 2 younger brothers Thomas and Harry in the Workhouse, if this is true they had 6 sons. I can find a Jane Webb, widow, a shop keeper with her brother also called John who was a shepherd in Chelsea??? Sandra

Thanks for all that it is a lot for me to digest and see if they are relatives. Like and idiot went to main Sheffield Library yesterday, with the addresses that Lily and Ada would have lived in about their 30th birthday hoping to find if they registered for voting and if so when. Of course it was Easter holidays and they were shut. Will try again later in the week, cannot make my mind up whether to apply for the birth of Blanche Hilda Webb, Jan, 1893 slightly before Fulham archives say Blanche was born. May try a little investigation before I do. Hope you are all well, regards Sandra
