You say that the children of the sisters talk to each other - so if you know them and their surnames you can work back from there and get another marriage certificate for Fred's name (confirmation or otherwise)?

Madmeg

Madmeg Report 2 Mar 2010 21:28

So Sandra, Ada did not marry Mr Ironside - is that so?

Madmeg

Madmeg Report 2 Mar 2010 23:56

Possible marriages for Lily to Toothill, Ferguson or Grant. Death of Lily Toothill in 1982, born 1900, makes her just two years older than the Ada that Ivy found.

But it sounds as though you know who the three women married. You said you didn't want to post them. That is up to you and I appreciate you might have good reasons. But it makes it difficult to research them without information on their lives both after 1901 and before.

Lily never married. She was about 2 years younger than Ada. I wondered if someone could find them anywhere together especially Ada and Lily either in care or as a relative or in another country or county. Were they adopted, was Fred a made up name. As the two youngest were away from the family home at a youngish age they have no paper work, pictures etc and never talked about their young years. I can see that everyone looking for me is having the same problems. The person in London is in her 90s and is the daughter of Blanche and her memory is not good. Hence my problems.

Sandra
What was the occupation given for Fred on the marriage certificate?
Even though he was deceased it should give his occupation.

The only thing is to check the marriages of Ada and Blanche and see if the father's name is the same at least that will confirm something.

I think if you can't find a definite birth for any of them to give you parents details, then that is because they did not have that name when registered, either christian name or surname.

I've just checked all Ada Webbs born 1896 in south east ( ada as first and where shown as second name) and accounted for them , I think. ,

putting in Lillian , blanche and Ada on 1901 using Ada's DOB shows a few, but not WEBB.

Somewhere along the line name has been changed I think,

these are the Ada Webbs reg last qtr 1896

Webb Ada Edmonton 3a 408

Have applied for the Edmonton one and got the knock back on it with the details that I have given.

Thanks for all of you for your help. It is like an itch I have to scratch, have kept trying all alternatives as you all have done.

Sandra

Sandra Report 4 Mar 2010 08:10

Hi Ladykira, it is highly unlikely as by 1920 she states she was 23 and even so Ada and Lily should be together in 1911 as both would be minors 9/10 and 7/8 but worth a thought. I am beginning to think like Topsy they just grewed.

Is this Ada's marriage and death registration which was posted earlier?

Ada Webb (no middle name) married Mr Ironside in Sheffield in 1920 and then died as Ada Ironside in 1986; the death index detail states age 87 (estimated), birth date 26 Sept 1899

Do you have Lily's death registration for her birth year, although death details are only what the informant believed to be correct.

Hi Rambling Rose, I think I have found a marriage for Blanche, I think she married in the June period Fulham 1918 to William G Bradfield because eventually they had a child called Joan who could be the 90 year old still living.

Another thing I have found out this week apart from the three girls Blanche Ada and Lily their was a boy called George born in between Blanche and Ada. George is even worse to research than the others so many of them.

Missed hearing from you all this last few days have learned so much from you. Sandra.

You may find missing pieces by researching others looking for William Bradfield. Some from his line may have inherited photos etc. worth looking at shared trees at the top of the page.

Sandra Report 10 Mar 2010 18:46

Thanks will do this applied for the marriage cert today so a weeks wait to see if Blanche gives the same father as Ada and how old Blanche is, had a brief look for William Bradfield and think is a bit older than his wife if I have the correct man.

May see if there is someone in the correct Surrey region that would go to their archives for me and see if this family has been missed off somewhere. How can a family of at least 5 disappear. Have tried all variations of name or even any other name. But with all your help feel near the end of a long years look.

regards Sandra
