Have just found someone on Ancestry who has Yvonne Emily on his tree! It's a private member's tree so I have e-mailed him. Will let you know the outcome. Anne sends her thanks for all your amazing work. Best wishes, Janice

Choccy, you are a STAR ***********************************
This is fantastic. Super-sleuth extraordinaire. I will copy this over to Anne, Hubert's granddaughter now. She was thrilled with the weekend's findings - this will send her over the moon!
Thanks :-)

FOUND HIM !
Canadian Passenger Lists, 1865-1935 Name: H A Foster Gender: Male Age: 23 Estimated birth year: abt 1883 Date of Arrival: 12 May 1906 Vessel: Canada Search Ship Database: View the 'Canada' in the 'Passenger Ships and Images' database Port of Arrival: Montreal, Quebec Port of Departure: Liverpool, England Roll: T-486
Source Information:

Still can't read where he is going, but it exactly the same place as Yvonne who went out in July.
Looks like Minnidosa, Man (itoba)
Googled Minnidosa -
'Minnedosa is a dynamic community of 2500 located two hours west of Winnipeg at the intersection of Highway #10 & #16.
Our beautiful valley and hills, the Little Saskatchewan River and Minnedosa Lake combine to make our community an oasis on the prairie. But Minnedosa is much more than just Manitoba’s Most Beautiful Town!'

EVENTUALLY !
Canadian Passenger Lists, 1865-1935
Name: Yvonne E Josber (Foster on a very poor copy) Gender: Female Age: 22 Estimated birth year: abt 1884 Date of Arrival: 1 Jul 1906 Vessel: Lake Erie Search Ship Database: View the 'Lake Erie' in the 'Passenger Ships and Images' database Port of Arrival: Quebec Port of Departure: Liverpool, England Roll: T-487
Source Information:
Ancestry.com. Canadian Passenger Lists, 1865-1935 [database on-line]. Provo, UT, USA: Ancestry.com Operations Inc, 2008.
Appears to be travelling alone, but stated to be married and American.
Husband may be elsewhere on the passenger list, which is very faded and difficult to read.
Can't read ultimate destination of passenger. Could be somewhere in Manitoba.

Thanks for looking.
The marriage pins them down to being in London in 1906. According to the passenger list you found, baby Bernard was born Dec 06 or Jan 07 in Canada.
That narrows the window for travelling down quite a lot. I assume that they went to Canada from London - most likely port is Southampton. Where did ships go to for Canada? Canadian addresses suggest they were living in British Columbia at some point.
Any ideas? Janice

She was in Somerset in the 1891 census, staying with her grandparents.
Parents were also in Somerset. Brother John Roland was born in Iowa too, but the younger sister, Gladys Annie, wasn't: she was born in Somerset in 1885. They must have come back in 1884/5 then.
Father is said to be an 'agent' so he could have been travelling abroad with his job. Parents are William Henry and Frances Annie Statter.
John Roland went back to Iowa in 1909 - have found that, and was travelling with that Savary guy you found on the census, who is a student.
Not sure where to look for the comings and goings!

Well, that's a surprise. Wouldn't have thought of that. Wonder when she came to England. Can't see her coming in.

What about marriages?
I now think that the John R Stater is John Roland Statter, her brother.
So I need a Statter-Foster marriage, but don't know if it was Canada or US.

Sorry, no idea about searching for USA and Canadian records, but I'm sure someone else might be able to help.
Maybe you can just change your heading a bit. Don't start a completely new question, as the information I have posted may be of some use to others, and they won't know what I have found.

Thank you for looking these up Choccy.
First one looks promising as the middle name is given too. I'll pass this on to my friend who is his granddaughter from the 2nd marriage. Very little is known about this part of his life so the dates may not quite be correct as it's all come down by word of mouth. Something to go on though.
Do you know how we can get hold of the marriage cert? I have no experience of the American system. Thanks again Janice

Dates are a 'bit out'.
Original looks like Hubert, not Herbert
California Passenger and Crew Lists, 1893-1957 Name: Herbert Allan Foster Arrival Date: 25 Jun 1909 Age: 26 years 9 months Birth Date: abt 1882 Birthplace: London, England Gender: Male Ethnicity: English Ship Name: Queen Port of Arrival: San Francisco, California Port of Departure: Victoria, British Columbia Destination: Papeete, Tahiti Last Residence: Canada Archive information (series:roll number): M1410:34
Travelling with wife Emily Yvonne and son Bernard John.
Emily is 25 yrs 4 months and Bernard is 2 yrs 6 months.
Herbert (Hubert) is a Clerk and the name and address of their nearest relatives 'from whence they came' is
R.P.S Twizell, 1201 Pacific, Vancouver.
Maybe the names mean something to you (or not!). Might be a complete red herring.

Struggling with this one and could do with some help/advice please. Trying to trace the movements of Hubert Alan Foster.
He was born 7th Oct 1882 in Loughton, Essex, UK He applied for a UK passport in 1903. Went on a business trip abroad for his father 1903/4. Family photo with him in it taken in Regent Street, London in 1904.
According to the family, he had a row with his father and went to Canada - possibly worked on railway then as a lumberjack (his father was in the timber business).
In 1906 he was in San Francisco following the earthquake. There, he married a local girl, had a son, and then split up with his wife. The final decree for the divorce was actually issued in 1913 in San Francisco, but it is known that he went to New Zealand in 1909. (Name of wife unknown as she is referred to as Mrs Foster!)
He married again in 1922 in Auckland, NZ.
Would like to find out when he went to Canada, where he worked, when he went to US, and the names of wife and son! Have looked at various passenger lists with no success. It is possible he worked his passage as he did some seaman training in the UK.
Any suggestions or info gladly received.
Thanks, Janice
