The 1861 census gives Richard's pob=Oswaldtwistle (misspelled), which is in Blackburn RD. |

I think Thomas is possibly a red herring as if Alice'birth was registered March qtr & Thomas June qtr (the only ones I could find in Blackburn dist) it is physically impossible |

Aye, Newton died of consumption aged 24 on 15th Jan 1862 and his daughter Jane was born on 16th Jan1862...day after his death. |

Just a thought but Maria Entwistle did have a brother called Richard aged 4 on 1841 census.. I wonder if is it him ? and there's a mistake on the transcription detail. |

I have checked Lancs BMD and can`t find any Richard Entwistle births in the right timescale........ but birth registeration wasn`t compulsory then, and if he was illigitamate he may not have been registered at all. |
