Hway hinny - I'm wondering if Edith was misread as Elizth by the enumerator - it's hard to write with a geordie accent. |

Getting her marriage cert is a good idea. Apart from her fathers name and occupation the witnesses might be a help |

I have looked at the 1891 census of the family (or so I beliveved), which lists Edith as Elizabeth the North East dialect can be quite broad so I could understand the incorrect name, but as I have her death certificate and can identify her marriage, it still makes me think her name was Edith, especially as my mum was 'supposed' to be named after her. |

You say she was born in Newcastle but you can't be sure of that without a birth certificate. Perhaps she was born in Scotland. Her middle name sounds a bit Scottish to me and children in Scotland are often given their mother's maiden name as a middle name. It might be worth checking on Scotlandspeople. |
