Hi Rose,

I had a 2 week trial with Ancestry.co.uk, which unfortunately finished last night. Based on what you said regarding Phonetics i found the Barston one and did a search on that and found the parish records. Even though it says Barston, i believe the records entry is wrong as it does look like Burston.

I believe the 1882 Frederick Burston is the correct one now rather than the Frederick William one. the dates seem to tie in more. Thanks for the info on the Cardiff Louisa. Damn thought we had something there.

BTW My uncle is going to speak to the last surving daughter of Fred and May Elizabeth this weekend. She now lives in Australia. We are not even sure if she knows about Freds possible past.

I think 1909 is too late as my nan was born in 1920 and Fred Burston is her Dad. I believe the one from 1882 is the correct one as everything around him seems correct.

I think the one born 1909 is the son of Frederick and Louisa.

Chances are your nan had half brothers and sisters.

Might be a red herring, but there is a Louisa Burston 23 and George Burston 25 in Cardiff in 1911.

Hi,

Just to let every one know who has helped me here. My uncle spoke to his aunt. Unfortunately, her memory wasn'tr great and all she could confirm regarding Fred Burston that indeed he died in 1945 as Rose said. As far as she was aware her mother May Elizabeth Winter did marry Fred Burston, but she did not know anything about his family, as in mother and fathers name or siblings. Oh she did confirm her nan was Emily Winter, which ties in with the 1911 census record I found for May Elizabeth.

This leads me to believe that there is maybe a bigamist marriage with my great nan and grandfather but even stranger no marriage record.

Also, was she christened Alice May Elizabeth??

Am grabbing at straws. Having spoke to someone else they confirmed the May Elizabeth I believed to be my nan married a man called Harry Syrett, as you have confirmed.

I have found an Alice May Winter with a mother called Emily in the 1911 census. The reason I am pulling towards her is that she has a sister called Lillian and a brother called Fred, who my mum has confirmed as names that ring a bell.

I am wondering if Alice May Winter may have used in later years the name Elizabeth May, she may have been cristenedd Alice May Elizabeth Winter.

As you can see I am opening all sorts of avenues.
