OK, I'm confused now.....I'm trying to trace the baptism of George Beland who was christened 14th September 1804 at St Dunstans Stepney. On the new LMA records there seem to be four groups of records that all cover 1804. How do I know which of these groups to look at?

There doesn't appear to be a record for George Beland, 1804.

What comes up are Pallots, and England Baptisms and not London.
Maybe because Stepney was Middlesex and Rotherhithe was Surrey.

Well they arent all there and as you say the older untranscribed records are a bit hard going at present on some pages and of course they dont have all events as yet but my goodness Id have saved a fortune in certs if theyd had this stuff 6 years back.

The burial records are really useful too because you generally have an age on the register entry, many years before age is shown on the deaths on GRO....Much more likely to find the correct person if you need to order a certificate.

Are they planning to transcribe the pre-1813 births, does anyone know?

Also, is there any way of enlarging the particular part of the image that I need before printing off? I have found a couple of brilliant marriages, but by the time I print them off they are illegible. Do I have to save each time to my desktop and then customize them?

Which browser are you using? I've managed to print out a copy of a marriage record using Netscape. I enlarged the image to 100% and had just the one I wanted centred on the screen. I clicked on the icon above the image and the window for printing options came up. I clicked "selection" and chose "landscape" and was able to print a good copy.

I've tried several times using Internet Explorer and have had no luck - just a pile of wasted paper.

Marie.

Thank you for posting this Heather Posi.
I've spent a couple of hours on there this evening and have managed to find many marriage entries for which i was waiting to buy certificates.

I'm working my way through the baptism records now!

Thanks Moonbeam - I'm on Firefox. I've tried enlarging to 75% and then printing but it still seems very hard to read. I also cannot seem to change the orientation of the page. I'll have another go.

What a fantastic update for those of us with London ancestors, I have spent hours on there, and maybe could have saved a few quid on marriage certificates, but never mind. It is very addictive though!!!!

I said in my previous message that I was using Netscape but it is Firefox that I have.

How you select Landscape for printing probably depends on your printer. I have a Brother laser printer and when I click on print the printer dialogue box comes up. I have to click on 'Properties' to select either portrait or landscape.

I just tried printing another one. The first time I printed it it didn't print the bottom of the record. This was from 1822 and it was larger (deeper) than the previous one I printed from 1856. So I had to click on "Toggle Full Screen" so that I could see the whole record in the window. Then it printed o.k.

Good luck.

Hi, I have just had a look on ancestry regarding the LMA records, and then up popped membership - I have only been on the site a few times, can anyone tell me whether £100 approx membership fee for the year is worth it??

Thanks

Thanks Moonbeam - I didn't even know what the 'toggle full screen' button did! I have finally found how to change to landscape and the marriage record is a little bit easier to read.

Now to reprint all the others!

Middie, £75 would be even better - register on quidco.com, go through their link to ancestry and you will get 25% of the sub back in cash.

Hi Heather

I have just become a member of quid co - is it just as simple as clicking on the link which takes you to Ancestry - and you get 25% cashback/discount?

Thanks

Irene Report 24 Sep 2009 14:38

Just a tip I found - go to marriages and just put in father's name and nothing else - this way I have found a couple of second marriages for my ancestors that I am sure I would never have found. Good luck Irene

Middi, join up, log in - have you given them your details for the payments to be made to you? I used a pay pal account at first but its limited to £50 and I was getting £100 sometimes from car insurance policies, so now I have my bank details for them to pay me (Over £900 in 3 years).

But anyway, yes once you have logged in (remember to always do that) then find ancestry in the merchants list, click on the link, pay for your sub as you would in normal way and thats it. I dont know how quick ancestry pay - it will tell you on there. The money will go into your account .

Absolutely bona fide site, thousands and thousands of members. Always first check for the best price you can get something THEN go to quidco and see if the merchant is on their list and buy through the link for the given cash back.
