You could try to chase any other people called Gobby in the 1851 census. It is such an unusual name that any so called might be related to your fellow.

Also if you haven't already done so you should check the original image of the 1841 entry in case there has been a mistranscription resulting in this strange name.

Hi Somerset girl,

His name was Dominick Gobby (fab name:-) ) According to 1841 census he was born 1786 in Foreign parts. He was married to Harriett Hoole 30 Jul 1904, St Martin in the Fields, Westminster, London. That's all I have on him but would like to find more if possible. Gobby is an unusual name particularly the time, any ideas where it originates?

Try looking them up from 1851 onwards,then they usually give actual country.
