hello sylvia yes our familys are so alike my maternal granparants were born in the 1860,s and died before i was

born and paternal grand father the same ellen,s daughter frances 1873 i knew plus her brother harold 1878 the horse

bus driver none of my family knew any thing ofthe rest of the siblings or her sad beginings untill i started on my family tree 3 years ago

I only knew my maternal grandparents (both my dad's parents were dead before I was born).

We never talked about relations.

I knew grandmother had 2 sisters because one lived next door to us, and one was my mother's godmother who had moved to New Jersey in the US and we got regular letters from her until some time in the 1950s.


I didn't even know my grandmother's maiden name when I started tracing the family back in 2003. I was lucky and got a lead as soon as I went on the web .... and had her name and family within 2 hours.


Turns out she had a total of 7 siblings and grandfather had 5


My grandfather served in WW1 ...... at the age of around 40 and with 2 or 3 children. He was apparently in Mesopotamia from what my mother told me (she would have been around 12 at the time). BUT we never talked about it ........ so I have no idea which regiment, where he served, what medals he got ........ and he has a very common name!



How I wish we had talked!!!!

nion workhouse i have her birth cert there is not a fathers name and nobody can find a marrage for my gt gran ellen

i was 10when my gran died she did not talk about her family we only knew of one brother how i wish i,d asked questshons thanks so much sally

What makes you think Ellen married? Are you sure these are her children and not children of an older sibling. Do you have a birth certificate for one of the children which proves that Ellen is their mother?

dO YOU MEAN THE CHILDRENS SURNAMES ARE THE SAME AS THE ONE SHE GREW UP WITH - SHE DIDNT MARRY UNTIL AFTER THEY WERE BORN IN THAT CASE, IF SHE EVEN MARRIED AT ALL

so was Cawley her married name

According to the 1881 census she is single and as her name is Cawley at birth the children must be illegitimate.

i cannot find a marrage for her plus the chidrens surnames are the same

her parents were john 1817 andann friend 1828
