Well, the 1871 Census record for the Frosts were very badly written and Emma could well have been read as Anna and I'm wondering if this was indeed what happened on the 1881 Census for them as well.

Possibly her in 1861 as Frost but not able to find a remarriage for her mother.

You need her marriage cert to Henry to try to confirm these details.

They are living in Lambeth on the 1911 Census, but transcribed with the wrong middle initials

Yes, I was also concerned about ma in law being a Frost. May be she remarried too. And the son with her is the child of the second husband.

Havent got me glasses on at moment but I think I was also worried about the ages of Annie and Henry in the 1881/91 - has anyone checked the image on those? Or has annie got a different dad?

Henry Ing, Age 5 in 1881, is James Henry Bridger

As his step-father was also a James, he was most likely known by his middle name as to avoid confusion. This happened in many households and is not unique.

I wouldn't worry too much about James Ing's relationships on the census, unless you intend to trace his family as well.

I would however get straight on to the General Records Office and order that marriage certificate for Henry and Sarah asap, because that will help you trace the families back further and may give an indication of how old Henry was at the time of his marriage.

The 1881 is confusing as Henry is down as Henry Ing. I think it's the same family.

What confuses me is the Emma Frost as mother in law to James Ing, I'll try to investigate this tomorrow.

Sorry everyone I am confused, I have just looked on the 1881 census and a family by the name of Ing lived there - Sarah is the wife, but there is no mention of her son who is James Henry? How can this be right?

I don't feel that this is the right family is it?

I don't know whether its common or not to have the wrong middle name but it could be as Sliwowski says that he would never have known his father and possibly told that his fathers name was the same as his.

It is obviously the correct family isn't it as they were living at the same address given on his marriage cert from at least 1891 onwards.

It looks as if you have it correct Sliwowski as the address is the same as given on the marriage cert.

Here he is in all the census years with his remarried mother. I think they are a bit easier to follow from Ancestry than the transcription posted earlier which I think is a gr record.

It would appear that the birth cert yiou have is correct. What was his mother's maiden name on that.

All evidence is telling me that James' mum Sarah may have got Henry's middle name wrong. His death is not registered under Henry Charles and James would have been too young to really know his father, so the only info he would have got would've been from his mother.

Perhaps the marriage certificate possibly says Seaman because he died at sea and that's what James was told, as I really can't find a suitable death index entry for him.

However, please look at all possibilities as I could be completely wrong.
