There is a very comprehensive site www.behindthename.com which gives an alphabetical of every imaginable first name and its meaning. It is useful when trying to find ancestors whose names are versions of the original e.g. May could be a name in itself or a derivative of Mary, Margaret or even Mabel. You can search for names in other languages too. Pam
