Greeting’s Again. …Dewdrop.

Seeing that the Records Office DO NOT hold Birth Certificates…
Only Baptisms records……….
So if Jack was not Baptised then it would be a waste of my time…….

But I have looked at the Birth Records for Jack
Details as below

3rd. Quarter 1926.
Jack. A. Wragg.
LEICESTER.
Mothers Maiden Name = GREWCOCK.
Cert No’. 7 a. 441.

Details for the Marriage :~

4th. Quarter 1921.
John H. Wragg. ~ Elsie GREWCOCK.
LEICESTER.
Cert No’. 7 a. 640.

So I think there is a very good chance your on the right lines.

Unfortunately due to other commitments……..
I’m not due to get to the Records Office until June of this year now..
So it will be quicker for you to order the certificates. ….

Thank you for looking Mike, i have that 1851 census,

Mary Davenport nee Goff/Gough had a sister Harroitt born abt 1833 in Leicester, i have not found a death or her anywhere after 1841 when they were with their parents, both parents died mid 1840s, so finding a Harriott Gough with Mary in 1851, even though her birthplace was Northampton, is worth a look at and i cannot find the Northampton Harriott in 1841.

Told you i was clutching at straws

Mike. The Leicester Lad.(GC) Report 12 Apr 2009 19:20

Greeting’s Again. Sylvia.

Sorry but the Marriage did not appear within the Five Main Churches for the time. …You stated…..
Although it’s recorded on the G.R,O. Marriage Site.
4th Quarter 1852.
Cert No’, 7 a 466.

Therefore It’s either a Nonconformist Marriage or a Registry Office Service.

The Records Office might have the Marriage returns for Nonconformists Leicester
But they do not hold Registry Office Marriages.

I might be quicker just to order the Certificate using the details posted
I see that there was a Harriott Gough. Aged 18. Cotton Winder.
a Visitor
Born All Saints Northampton.
Within a Household of George & Mary Davenport on Grove Street. Leicester. Census returns 1851.

Hi,

I don't know if anybody can help me here, but I'm trying to find out who the mysterious "Uncle Jesse" was who lived with my grandad and his family in the 1930s.

My grandad remembers an old man who lived with him and his parents until he died in the 1930s (not sure exactly when).

The family was the Milton family and they lived at:

84 Uppingham Road when my grandad was born in 1933.

Any help would be fantastic, I don't know whether someone would be kind enough to look at the electoral rolls for me or if you have any help/advice that would be great also!

Thanks

Hi Mike,

Once again you have come thru with 'the goods' and I THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart.....

After looking at the ages at their death and then comparing it with the census ages, no wonder it took so much time to work out who these girls belong to ... their brother Samuel bc 1771 is part of my direct line, so I have these names already but as the ages were so out of whack it was hard to make a match.

Once again.. thank you.
Till next time.
Cheers.

Hi Mike,

Not sure if you can help with this...

But I am looking for some info on a Lyda Winchester bc 1792 - 1796, depending which census you look at and her sister Mary Winchester bc 1784-1791. The 1851 census says they were born in Derby Cheshire, (is that a Place ??) . Both census were from the St Martins area of Leicester. I have found deaths for both girls ..
Mary S ( looks like Swift on image) Winchester died 1858 at Leicester and Lydia Winchester dies 1859 at Leicester. Any info on these two ladies , who appear to never have married would help join a few dots together .

Many many thanks as always for any help..

Cheers.

That's very kind of you Mike, thanks very much.

You may be right about the delete button - since the last site change the site's been responding very slowly; I click on one part of the page, but nothing happens for a few seconds, and then I find I've clicked somewhere completely different. Very irritating.

Hi Mike,

Thanks very much inded for the Billson marriage and baptism details - those are very useful indeed.

I replied to your post almost immediately but my answer seems to have vanished - goodness knows what happened to it.

How odd that Kitty's mother was Elizabeth, though, when the widow was Catherine. I suppose the Cropston marriage may not be the right one, but it's a bit of a coincidence that the John Billson who married Catherine Wilson was from Loughborough if it's not the same person.

Anyway, it's given me some food for thought :-)

Thanks again,
Mary

Hello Mike - thanks for your message of 26/3/09.

In 1871 Census William Ogden's 2 young dau's. Lucy (b.1851 Brighton) and Alice (b.1853 Westminster) were in the Ipswich Workhouse. In Oct.1871 in the Ipswich Union Board of Guardian minute books it states that enquiries should be made at Leicester for the settlement of these two girls due to the fact their father William was born in Leicester in 1816, and their Grandfather James, hired a tenement in All Saints Parish, Leicester before 1819. (The Hatter in Bond St. you found for me).

The Court cases were held during 1872 in Ipswich and I am wondering if there is anything in the Leicester records to explain what happened to Lucy's parents, William and Sarah Ogden. Lucy is my Gt Grandmother and she stayed in Ipswich.

This is a complicated case and I didn't expect you to do any searching for me - only to tell me if there were any records available for me to search, if I managed the long journey to Leicester.

Your help is very much appreciated.
Eileen
