Kathleen Report 7 Sep 2009 16:55

Hi Mike

I wonder if I can trouble you again for a couple of burial details, I'm looking for Robert Tattersall who died 4th qtr.1881 and another Robert Tattersall who died 1st qtr. 1889, both Leicester. I would like to know who else is in the same grave, as you know this sometimes gives other family members which helps. One thing I've noticed about some burials is that even though it's a common grave you sometimes find members of the same family buried together even years apart, have you any idea why this is?

Your help always appreciated.
Regards
Kathleen

Re :~ Despite intervening years persons are reunited with fellow members of the same Family
How come ?

Do not forget that the Cemetery holds a Master Plan of where each person / Families are buried
There fore I’m sure question were asked before committal……
To make sure they were reunited with their Families.

Seeing that Robert (Snr) died after is Son therefore perhaps no Family members to ask the above question
Plus seeing that Robert ( Snr) was an inmate at the Union Work House.

I hope that is what you were asking ?

Hi Mike,

Many tks for taking the time with this..

You could be right with William being son of Ann Newby, the visitor. ........

I have gone thru John and Marys family and I doubt that Ann is their daughter, but I wonder why they put William as their 'grandson'

I cannot find him after this 1851 census.

There is a William Henry Newby born 1846, to William D Newby and Lousia S Newby, all part of the same family , and I have this fellow on the the 1851 census with his parents.

So.... I still dont really know. Next step is to buy the certificate...

Tks once again.

Cheers.

Mike. The Leicester Lad.(GC) Report 8 Sep 2009 19:52

Greeting’s Again. …. Donna……

I would think Giles was working the System……
Asking for Parish relieve and then not keeping to his side of the contract…..

Hence the multiple Baptisms in different Parishes.

I understand it that once a Child has been Baptised into the Parish then
That Parish becomes responsible should they fall on bad times by supporting them..

But if Giles was “ Work Shy” and did not help support his family then the Parish has the right to remove him back to his original Parish by a “ Removal Order “
Where he is obliged to keep his side of a “ Settlement Order “…..

So I would think Giles was trying to be one step in front of them by moving about a lot and getting the latest child Baptised in that Parish and……..
so the circle continues……….

Hope this helps ?

I'll try and look at the original court transciption held at the Records Office for you ...But give me some time to do this ...

family household in Wigston Magna……..
Perhaps a distant relative.? ……

And to “Save Face” of Ann they put down that William Henry was a Grandchild
I have seen this several time on Census returns….

From the original Court Book of 203 years old

QS6 / 1 / 11 / 600.

WHEREAS Giles Barnacle And Elizabeth his Wife With their Child William aged one year and a half.
Where sent by a Warrant under the hand and seal of Hamlet Clark and John Salter Gentlemen two of his majesties justices of the peace for he Borough of Leicester in said County.
One were being of bearing of the Quaruary bearing Date this Sixteenth Day of September of last past. From the Parish of All Saints in the said Borough as to the last legal place of Settlement of said Giles Barnacle and his said Wife And Child William.
And the inhabitants of the Parish of St Mary’s aforesaid appending to this court from the said Warrant of the said two justices.
This Court upon hearing Council and witnesses on both sides….
DOTH. DISCHARGE.
The said warrant of the said two justices and the inhabitants of the Parish of St. Mary aforesaid are by this court Discharged of the said Giles Barnacle his Wife and Child William.

Signed…………Tho’s ??????? …...Deputy Justices of the Peace. .

Now you want a translation of the above ??...Thought so………lol……

I showed this tonight to my Solicitor friend of long standing…….
His understanding of the case was …
It would appear Giles upset the Locals of the Parish in some way and they wanted Giles out ……..
But on hearing the evidence of both sides the Court came down on Giles side and discharged him….So he got away with what every he had done….

And Giles being Giles voted with his feet and moved on to another Parish……..
I’ll have a look at the entries for Barkby next time I’m at the records Office
To see if we can find out what Giles did for a living and confirm those Baptisms…

MIKE …
off for a lie down and get my fingers back from all this typing……Ah……

Hi Mike,

Any chance you could take a look at the marriage of Hannah Potts to William Hicklin which took place on 16/8/1824 at Breedon on the Hill. Hannah may be the mother of my 3x gt grandmother Elizabeth Potts who was baptised on 1/9/1811 (you have already checked the parish records for Elizabeths baptism and possible siblings) Elizabeths baptism only gave her mothers name Hannah Potts but there was Hannah married to John Potts (you found their children) and this other Hannah who married in 1824 (I believe John didn't die till much later). I have been trying to find a baptism for Hannah Potts but without success, so was hoping her age may be given on her marriage and that you may be able to find her baptism.

Although I believe there is some connection between Elizabeth and John and Hannahs family I'm not convinced 100% of them being her parents, I'm wondering if John may be Elizabeths uncle/brother.

The info you found for me previously is on page 14/15 of part 19.

Thanking you in advance for anything you find

Chris

Hello,

I have a Benjamine Sikes/Sykes married to Jane Platts about 1833 Coleorton, Jane appears to have had a son Frederick Platts abt 1829 Coleorton ( I think) On the parish Record for her marriage does it state if she was a widow? She appears to have been born abt 1796 Coleorton, do hope you have access to these records. Many Thanks
