Member Since: January 2003 Posts: 62 Send Message	Hello all, I have hit a brick wall with my great great grandfather (Pat Hoban) who was born in Ireland between 1839-1846. I will explain some of the background first... I have always been told that my family came from Capparanny in Co. Mayo, Ireland but I have recently discovered that they don't originate from there; my great grandfather (Denis Hoban, b.1894) and all his brothers and sisters were born in Capparanny however I can't seem to find their father (Pat) in Capparanny. On Pat's marriage record it clearly states his home address as Capparanny but from what I can tell he wasn't born there! I know Pat's father was Thomas Hoban as this too is on Pat's marriage record so I have had a search for a Pat born to a Thomas but this brings up several entries and I have no way of knowing which one (if any) is correct. Another thing i should add is that I checked the Griffith index and didn't find any Hoban's in Capparanny; however I did find a family with the surname Carroll who I have since learned are connected to the Hoban's. I suppose what I am asking is; how can I find out how the Hoban's and Carroll's are connected and how can I go forward with my search for my great great grandfather?
