What I think Gwyn is that you are a wonderful genius!!!!!!!!
Alfred and Kate are definately the ones, they'd have ben married by 1901 so Minnie was probably using her stepfathers name. Thats marvellous, thank you soooo much

Thats really kind Gwyn, what do you mean by pm? I don't know all that much about her to be honest....apartf rom on the 1911 census her age (in April) is 19 her given name is Minnie Marden and that she was born at saltwood, her mother's name is Kate and i'm expecting her to be illegitimate and her mothers surname is probably Marden too. Any details you could find would be fantastic- Thank you!

Wow thanks everyone for all your replies - it's certainly given me some food for thought, perhaps she is just Minnie and just not on the 1901 census...she wouldn't be the first person! Thanks again everyone x x

Hi Dragonfly Lady

According to this website:- http://wiki.name.com/en/Minnie

It says

The name Minnie was originally a nickname for the names Mary and Wilhelmina.[1] Minnie may also be used as a nickname for any name that contains the sound "min."[2] It was used as an independant name beginning in the 1870s.[3]

Angela

My wife's grandmother's name was recorded as Miriam at her birth but throughout her life she was known as Minnie - and this included all official records too.
