I can't find the family in 1881 either.

Confusing the hell out of me.

As i have Rosa and James marriage and also there deaths and even Rosa's birth.

Ahhh you see thats the problem, Gertrude is only the father to Harold (Gertrude is on the 1891 census with them aged 13) So im not sure who Sydney's parents are to be honest.

Just looked at the 1891 census.

Gertrude can't be the mother of Sydney. She is only 13 on the 1891 census and Sydney is 3. Sydney is down as Rosa's son and Rosa is down as widow.

None of this adds up to me.

Thats because he's with his nan (Rosa) in Wolverhampton.

I can't find a Sydney/Sidney Hill in the 1891 census with a mother called Gertrude.

I knew he was in Birmingham but i wasnt aware he was down as single.
That is a wee bit odd.

Id love to know who the father of Harold and Sydney was.
I know that the mother was Gertrude but the father evades me as of yet.

The grandson's names are Sidney and Harold.

Rosa's age is given as 58 on the 1901 census so the birth you found is probably correct. People often have ages that are out by a few years on the census.

Also the only birth i can find for a Rosa Pote is in Hackney London 1840 which looks to be a few years to early.

It just says London for Rosa's birthplace.

There is only one child - William.
The other two are grandsons.

I have a Rosa Pote married to a James Hill, i have them on the 1901 census together with kids - piece-2680, folio-68, page-17.

Could somebody plz tell me where it states that Rosa was born?
