She may well have been given the name Ann Craig at birth but known as Annie all of her life. (The Cockburn in the birth register is her mother's maiden name.) Then the person registering her death (her aunt?) may only have ever called her Annie so gave that name to the registrar. |

I just checked the births, so if her death cert was listed as annie craig she couldnt be the same person if the birth is listed as Ann cockburn craig then. |

You might be able to find electoral lists which will help with a surname at the aunt's address. Women won't generally be listed until a couple of years later though. |

Thanks every one for looking all this up,I should have my grandads birth cert by the end of the week so i can see if i can make out that last name better (if its registered by her aunt again) it looks like it could be so hopefully it is cockburn. |

Theres a name of her aunt but i cant make out it properly it looks like: m.cackhurm. or cackhurn but i could be totally wrong cause it doesnt sound right. |
