Okay, those people in the 1911 - Henry and Ellen married 36 years, daughters Annie and Ellen.
Where might they be in 81, 91 and 01? Nowhere I can find. Where is their marriage? Where are the girls' births? Daughter Ellen married in 1900 in West Ham, that's all I see. And I don't see *her* on the 1901 (also checked the IY for husband ... maybe he's the married Irish soldier in 1901, could explain no death record). Son Bernard born Mar Q 1902 died in infancy Jun Q 1902, husband died - ? There just are no parents' marriage or daughters' births to match these people, and no sign of them in the censuses, nothing until 1911. Unless I'm totally blind.
I'm just thinking that this Annie may have been born with a different surname and used it "officially" after 1911.
Haven't read the whole thread - have you done this already? ;)

I'll have to come up with one that would let us call ourselves Three on a Match!
There's no birth for this death.
Name: Aubrey John Rideout > Birth Date: 18 May 1917 Death Registration Month/Year: 1983 Registration district: Nottingham Inferred County: Nottinghamshire Volume: 8 Page: 1070
Chew on that!
Oh, well, don't swallow.

Took my time getting back, but better late than never I suppose.
Since the deaths on Ancestry have been transcribed I have searched on and off (sometimes a few hours at a time ) for the death of
Aubrey Noble born 18 / 5 /1917 but have never been able to find him.
He could be anywhere in this country ,or indeed any other country,or even still alive I guess.
Thought I would drop this off on my way to bed for any night owls who fancy having a try please.
thanks viv x

Declaration is a means of registering a birth without having to go to the register office for the district of the birth. Most councils have an explanation on their websites. This is from Kensington & Chelsea:
If it is not convenient for you to attend this office to register the birth of your child then you may go to any other Register Office in England or Wales to register by ‘Birth Declaration’. When you attend that Register Office then the Registrar who sees you will simply record the relevant information and act as an intermediary, passing the details to the Registrar at Chelsea by post. In this case, any birth certificates you require will be sent in the post.
So the birth must have been in Wokingham district even if the address was Reading; presumably it was easier to go to the Reading office (or any other) to register.

Re: Births Jun 1913 (>99%) Noble Henry J Noble Wokingham 2c 769
I don't see why the rego's in Wokingham when the birth's in Reading - maybe the declaration's got something to do with that.
I'm not at all familiar with these declarations. The owner or occupant of the house is a qualified informant - maybe not the registrar's first choice, but Annie's dead so that puts the mockers on that.

So here we have Edith Paddock in 1911:
PADDOCK EDITH 1890 21 Reading Berkshire
No other Paddocks in the household.
And here is George:
THORN GEORGE 1891 20 Reading Berkshire THORN HARRIET 1848 63 Reading Berkshire THORN CHARLES 1871 40 Reading Berkshire THORN JOHN 1888 23 Reading Berkshire
And Henry George Lane:
LANE HENRY GEORGE 1872 39 Reading Berkshire LANE REBECCA MAUDE 1874 37 Reading Berkshire
Marriages Dec 1898 HOPKINS Rebecca Maud Reading 2c 919 LANE Henry George Reading 2c 919

So I want to try to sort this out:
Marriages Jun 1915 Paddock Edith Thorn Reading 2c 1006 Thorn George Paddock Reading 2c 1006
Witness to marriage:
Births Dec 1871 *Lane* Henry George Reading 2c 360
Name: Henry J Noble (son of Annie, born 1913) Spouse : Madeline N *Lane* Date of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar 1934 Registration district: Reading Registration county (inferred): Berkshire
Madeline Lane was daughter of Albert.
But I don't see a Madeline Lane birth - ?
Now, in addition to the 1911, we also have the complete birth/marriage indexes at Ancestry now.
She remarried 1949 Reading? There is also one possible/likely-looking birth to that marriage.
The one you mention does seem to be the only likely Noble-Lane birth, but of course you oughtn't to have posted it here, tsk.
If I have the correct reading, one big question is: what became of Aubrey Noble? The main question is: who was Annie Thorn? but the answer to Aubrey could help?

Hey Viv - a few days ago you told me to go google Aubrey Noble, and I finally got around to it but didn't see what you might have been referring to. (I did see a thread at british-genealogy from 3 or 4 years ago about the same person though!)
I looked up this thread and read through and was just wondering: with the 1911 out, has that helped any?
For starters, the family at 34 Highgrove in Reading were Smith, with no Edith, so the 1917 address doesn't help any.
(Not being a paying customer, I just started with given name starting with J, the most common, and hit Joseph Smith father and son on the first go.)
41 Russell, in 1911, is a Tucker family. And there's no one there with first initial E or A.
Messing around with Annie, Edith, Thorn, Noble ..., in Berkshire: nothing else interesting either.
There's no Annie Noble born 1888-1894, servant (or otherwise), in Berkshire; on the Welsh end, for servants, there is:
NOBLE ANNIE ROSALIND 1890 21 Cardiff Glamorganshire
for whom I don't see a likely birth -- well, except:
Births Jun 1890 (pre-census date birth registered after?) Noble Annie Newport M 11a 221
-- yes, Annie Rosalind answers to a search for born in Monmouthshire, so she would be the one in Risca in 1901?
and there are these:
EDWARDS EDITH MARY 1888 23 Newport Monmouthshire
THORN JAMES THOMAS 1875 36 Newport Monmouthshire
(that apparently being the Edith Edwards née Virgo who married James T Thorn in 1911, with him then dying in WWI)
although that possible connection seems to have been superceded by later digging.
