i bought cedits for scotlands people 2 wks ago(£6) when i came to view the certs the reader wouldnt work,,when i sorted it out and tried again they wouldnt take my password said it didnt exsist?sent them e mail and they didnt reply,so six quid down the drain,so beware.x

What can I search for my 10 credits?

How do you request their email newsletter, and, hence, receive free credits.? It would be helpful to hear from someone who has used this link.

This site is not scotlandspeople (which I prefer), this is ancestral scotland which doesnt appear to have any BMD searches etc.

I would love to use 10 credits but dont know what to use them for on this site?

It will then e-mail you a voucher code to use a Scotlandspeople

Hi Suzanne,

If your password at Scotlands People fails then simply click on the forgotten password link under the username logon box.
On the new page that opens enter your e-mail address and make sure you enter your correct e-mail and press submit.
An e-mail will be sent by return with a code(Temporary Password) to enable entry to the site with the request that you change this to a permanent password that you will remember easily.

Tip - Copy and Paste the code from e-mail into the password line to avoid any mistakes.

Once in Scotlands People access "My Details" and scroll down to "Application Options" where you can change the temporary code into a normal password.

Tip - Use Paste again to enter the code from e-mail into the current password line in order to avoid any mistakes then enter your new password

Just below the password section is the Image Viewer which can be used to change how you view your documents.
This has a drop down menu and rather helpfully, an Image viewer compatibility check which will test for acceptability of either Active X or Java.
Also available is a direct download which instead of allowing you to view documents on Scotlands People site, downloads the document direct to your computer.
You can always view your documents using any of the above methods Ad Infinitum!

I have forgotten mine twice and always been successfull in re-instating it using the above method.

Strange, get to ancestralscotland website, but when click to register it keeps going to what looks to be an American page on a site called cometoscotland!

I've just registered, got my free credits, and searched for the person my great grandmother's brother married. Came up with 7 possible births but managed to exclude a couple via censuses - so then decided to make a guess - and got the right one! (I know it's the right one because of her father's name on marriage cert).
And it's cost me nothing!

Thanks for that. Just got my free 10 credits. I've just paid to view a marriage but every time I try to view, I get thrown off online???? Has this happened to anyone else and does anyone know why??

The 5 credits have been deducted from my balance and I'm getting fustrated now that I can't view.

At the top of your screen should be a link entitled "viewed images" and the marriage should be there everytime you log in now

It might because you haven't got the correct plug-in for viewing images
