Mike

I've checked the records again for the marriage and no further clues? Its as is - John Christopher was Edwards' father and he was a labourer. Edward at the time was in the 95th regiment, no further info? Is there any chance that we could find this William Christophers' birth and see if he was born a William John Christopher?

Mike,
I didn't know that was your Niece and her daughter, so sad, I read the story in the paper. I send condolences, and prayers and hope that your memories are the fondest!
Also for your co-worker-this beast seems to be gaining on us, doesn't it? I am a 5 yr survivor, been through it twice, in ten years. Give her family my condolences!

hugs from your friend in Ontario!

Greeting’s again…………. Carol O’ Ontario.

I’ll await further information then re death certificate.

Unfortunately this week will not be a happy one for me…….

Today……Was the 1st anniversary of the tragic death of my
Niece & her Daughter In a Car Fire.
And this coming Thursday I have to say a finial farewell to a well respected
Ex Co worker who sadly lost her battle with cancer…..
So if I’m not around so much this week then you’ll know why.

MIKE. ....:0((((

Hi Mike,
Not too sure on that, Suzanne wasnt sure (re: email) either, so its a waiting game, lol!
Aww, you would get in the guiness book of records, swimming to Dinner, haha! Have a good week, Mike!

Throwing a hug from across the pond!

Mike. The Leicester Lad.(GC) Report 27 Oct 2008 14:56

Greeting’s again Carol O’ Ontario. ......

Your apology accepted......
I usually do not post anything till I’ve explored most of the avenues
I’ve had a quick look at your PM ......
Yes I fully understand the practice of temporary residence within a Parish in order to conform with the Minster......A suitcase placed within a rented room usually does the trick !!.....
Now. ..... Once you receive the death certificate. ......
( Which of the Alfred’s was it by the way ? )
We have a Lovely Lady who is an ex pat of Leicester living in Italy who pops in on this tread from time to time. .....
Who I’m sure can help you with any research for Italian records. .....

Thank you for your kind invitation but ....I fear it's a long swim from here ...lol :0)))

Mike,
I am sorry and apologize, my humour didn't come across in my written word!
I really just thought you overlooked me, so thank you so much for your response, and for all the hard work you have done.
I think this person didn't want to be found, lol!
Shady character to the end, and all you have written makes sense.
I will pass your info on to Pamela, Mike, and I owe you a meal, next time you are in my neighbourhood, you can come for the big Italian meal (I make great cabbage rolls too)

Gratzia tanto!

Mike. The Leicester Lad.(GC) Report 26 Oct 2008 20:34

Greeting’s. ......... Carol O’ Ontario.

I’m sorry if you feel I’m dragging my feet on your inquiries…:0(((

But the information you seek can not be found with just “a click of your Mouse.”

I have spent hours trawling through endless >~
Electoral Rolls. 1901 ~ 27.
Trade Directories.1901. ~ 68.
Local Newspapers. 1919. ~ 24.
( up to now……. It take 40 mins to scan through 1 months papers )

At the Records Office.
In the hope of spotting any references to Alfonzo either Snr or Jnr.……

But up to now have drawn a blank………..

I’ve even spend time at the Vicarage of St: Barnabas Church
( the Church is only 80 steps from my front door )
Plus I’m on nodding terms with the Vicar. …
Looking at the Banns for the Marriage which took place in 1919.
( The Banns are not held at the Records Office )
In the hope that the Banns might hold any more information
But it was only the same as what was on the Marriage Register.

And there Alfonzo stated he lived at No. 86 Merridale Road
at the time of the marriage……..
BUT the Electoral Rolls of both Spring & Autumn 1919.
states that there was only….
William Robert & Ethel BARBER. Listed for voting at No’ 86.

No’ 80 is correct for Frederick & Sarah Kirk. …..
So not sure what’s happening there ?

With reference to the double Birth registration for 1899 for
Sarah Ellen & Sophia Kirk
I still can not work it out other than Sophia must be the Daughter of
Frederick & Sarah it matches the 1901. Census……

The only Sarah Ellen I could find was a Daughter of Walter & Annie Kirk
at No’ 106 Merridale Road a Brother to Frederick ?
Sarah Ellen was aged 8 on that Census return....
That would match with a birth Registion
A.M. Jun. Qrt. 1893. 7 a 209.

With reference to Alfred Snr a Shop Keeper?
Due to not being able to find any reference to him…..
I just wonder if he was just a Manager of a Shop ?
therefore the name of the Business would be in a different name ? ….

With reference to Alfred’s prison sentence for desertion from the Army
This would have been carried out at a Military Prison.. Not a Civil Prison
Therefore We’ll not get any info on this…..

With regards to the Petty Thrift Sentences then yes these would have been
Carried out at the Civil Prison. …….Hence the search through Newspapers.

But if there were only petty then it might not be News worthy for an article in the paper ?
Plus any records of the courts would fall under the 100 year Closure rule
So As I’m not the next of kin I would not be able to see them…..BUT…….

I have enlisted the help of a Head Librarian at the Records Office…
Who is the Father of one of my Scouts who can see them
But as this is being done on a favour basis then he is restricted to the time spent on it………but he’s working on it but nothing to report as of yet …..

He as suggested that due to the fact I could not find either of the Alfred’s
On the Electoral Rolls…. Then they might have not been made a British Nationality…….. and still retained they Italian status ? Therefore not able to vote.

The search continues………

MIKE.

Hi Mike

Thanks again for info. However the wedding took place down here in Pembs, St Issells, but John Christopher was on marriage cert, he is down as a labourer? Not much to go on is it? Edward says on one census his birth was Loughborough - does that help? Alison

Hi Mike,
I have been standing in line for days and days, but haven't seen a response from you.
I check here twice a day-I guess I am a bit of a pest, but maybe you just overlooked me.
I was helping a Pamela with Alfred Alfonso/Alfonzo of Leicester, and was hoping you could find something on him for her, and if you had access to jail records, as he did time. Also, a store he owned was mentioned.
Please let me know. Thank you for your time, Mike.

Greeting’s again. ………. Alison.

You’ll find William on the 1841 Census here :~

HO107. / 595./ Bk. 7. / Fol. 42. / Pages 22 ~ 23.

He is Indexed as:~ ……… WALLM CHRISTOPH

( I have put it in caps so you can see the letters but type it in the usual way when you put the name in the keyword box when you do your search )

Having looked again in depth at your mysterious Alamlord aged 9.

I magnified the image and although it was still faint
I believe the name to be Mary A. Do...... aged 7.
Plus the age was definitely in the female column. ……
And it was the only name which did not match up with the names on my Indexed Census returns.

You say you have the Marriage cert of your Edward ?

Can you post the name of the Church and where it took place & year. ?
( Hopefully in Leicestershire So I can have a look at the details from the original register held at the Records Office re:~ John ? .....being the Father )

Alison Report 25 Oct 2008 09:58

Mike, I found it!!! Thats much easier, thanks for help! With regard to my question, I'm probably being dull here but dont know the answer so have to ask, what index are you looking through to get these records please? And what dates do they cover please?

Edward clearly states in the later census that he was born in Lough, Leics and on marriage cert his father is John? William Christopher and Mary are obviously family but we just cant find anything on ours? From the census records it may appear that William married twice? First to an Ann in 1838, to which you have now provided a burial record, and then possibly by 1851 to a Mary, I cant see him on the 1841 census?

And why is this Alamlod down on the census but then no record of her? Do you not think this could possibly be Edward?
Thanks for help so far.

Thanks Mike for the info on John Foster's burial, if you can find anything more, especially the marriage would be great. I have found a marriage in Leicester in 1910 for a Minnie Foster and wonder if this is her second marriage, is it possible to check this out?

Many thanks

Hi Mike

Tarnation! That's not the right answer, which is par for the course for the Bodycotes! Looks like Robert and therefore probably also Henry, were possibly nephews of Joseph, rather than sons.

Two steps forward, one step back I'm afraid, but I will keep all the references you've given me and one day it may all make sense (she said hopefully).

Thanks again

Sheila
