Hi I am interested in records of licenses issued c.1902. I have been told (by Leic city council & the records office) that the police will have dealt with these - so has anyone dealt with the Leicestershire police for this type of enquiry & any tips how to go about it ?
Many thanks for any help

Hi Mike
I wonder if you could look for the marriage of John Foster to Minnie? I can't find it on Freebmd but their son John was born 1891, would really like to know what Minnie's maiden name was. John Foster snr. died aged 31 in 1898, can you find any details for this? In 1901 Minnie and son John were living in Alfred Terrace.
Thank you
Regards
Kathleen

Mike Many thanks for your time and effort, much appreciated as always. I have no additional details as they were born before the Mothers maiden name was shown from 1911, I need to know which family to slot them into. As a last resort will have to apply for birth certs. Kind Regards Jon O'Kent

This all sounds like double dutch to me. Lots of you have given me help telling me where to put message, so here goes.
I'm trying to trace an Edward Christopher b 1836 circa in Loughborough, leices. Father John Christopher (cannot find any trace of him either). I have his record AFTER he joined army - 95th Derbyshire Regiment, he was underage at this point and I know of his marriage to Annie Griffiths and all the children. I cant find ANYTHING to do with his birth or his parents and possible siblings? There is an Alamlod Christopher which raises query on the 1851 census, the census is sooo faint you cant read it, but I think this could possibly be Edward, if you write Alamlod down it does look a bit like Edward, but the father then doesnt match? But only on this one census does this Alamlod appear, which is clearly not a correct name.
Hope somebody in Leics can enlighten me as this has been a brick wall for a long time now and is very frustrating? Thank you. Alison

The Jury is out for the moment ….regarding the Marriage I see from the 1891 Census that Minnie came from Bedfordshire Also I see that on this Census return that John the Son is AGED 3. Which matches up to the following birth in Leicester.
Oct.~ Nov.~ Dec. Qrt 1888. John James Foster. Leicester. Cert No’ 242.
I need to rumage around further to see what I can find

Hi Mike
Tarnation! That's not the right answer, which is par for the course for the Bodycotes! Looks like Robert and therefore probably also Henry, were possibly nephews of Joseph, rather than sons.
Two steps forward, one step back I'm afraid, but I will keep all the references you've given me and one day it may all make sense (she said hopefully).
Thanks again
Sheila

Thanks Mike for the info on John Foster's burial, if you can find anything more, especially the marriage would be great. I have found a marriage in Leicester in 1910 for a Minnie Foster and wonder if this is her second marriage, is it possible to check this out?
Many thanks
